STAAR 2014 Test Training
This Training Session DOES NOT take the place of reading the manual!!!! Make sure you have read all of the directions prior to you giving the test!!
Active Monitoring means that test administrators are actively engaged while students are working on the test, moving about the room so they can be aware of student s actions!
Active Monitoring IS NOT: Catching up on e-mail Grading papers Surfing the web Taking a nap
Failure to properly monitor students can result in: Invalidation of students tests Loss of testing opportunities Greater potential for testing irregularities Increased opportunities for student cheating
Test Security involves accounting for secure materials before, during, and after the test administration. You must sign your oath after training and before handling any secure materials. If you administer a test orally, you must complete the section at the bottom in the gray box.
Secure test materials may not be duplicated. Test booklet seals may only be opened by the person taking the test and only when told to do so by the test administrator. If a student accidentally breaks the seal on the wrong test, a piece of tape will secure it until the proper test day.
All tests must be administered in strict accordance with the instructions contained in the test manual. No person may reveal or discuss the contents of a secure assessment instrument or answer verbally or nonverbally any question that relates to the contents of a test before, during, or after a test administration unless specifically authorized to do so by the procedures outlined in the manual.
No person may change any response or instruct any student to do so. You may not view or discuss the contents of the test booklet or answer documents before, during, or after a test administration.
If a monitor knocks on your door, allow them to enter. Doors should be unlocked on test day to allow quiet access.
Everyone participating in test administrations must sign an oath. In addition, test administrators must read and sign the local electronic policy (see attached)
Godley I.S.D. Electronic and Cell Phone policy for State Testing Periods for Test Administrators The State of Texas and Godley ISD take student testing very seriously. Because of the increasing usage of cell phones and the fear of a breach of security during testing, the following policy regarding cell phones have been adopted and will be enforced: Test Administrators are not permitted to have on or operate a cell phone or other electronic devices such as IPOD s, pagers, handheld computers, or handheld electronic games while the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS), TAKS-Accommodated, TAKS-Modified, or TELPAS Reading is being administered. Desk computers may not be used during test administration. Monitors may be on but must be blank or dark. Screen savers cannot be on during test administration. A cell phone or computer e-mail may be used only in the case of emergency when an administrator is needed. Test administrators must be familiar with the Godley I.S.D. Electronic and Cell Phone Policy for State Testing Periods Because there is no way of knowing if a text message has been sent or received, a photograph of a test question has been sent, or other testing irregularities have occurred, a student whose cell phone rings, beeps, or makes any other sound during a test may have the test taken up and marked other and not scored. Students will be told to turn their cell phones off and backpacks, or purses can be stored either in a locker or in the front of the room against the blackboard while the test is being administered. No backpacks or purses will be allowed at the desk while test booklets are open and students are testing. Test administrators will be actively monitoring all students during each testing administration. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Staff Acknowledgement~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Godley I.S.D.
