Trib. Napoli n. 5150 del 26/9/2000 Stampa / Print: ROSSI srl - Nola (Napoli) Ships Deliver Continuous investment in new, technologically advanced ships is proving to be the best possible way towards a cleaner and less polluted planet. A study developed by Grimaldi has in fact shown that new Ro/ Ro hull design together with increased cargo capacity and engine technology has allowed maritime transport to knock out the road transport when it comes to environmental impact. This demonstrates how vicious is the ongoing attack to maritime transport from the lobbies of other modalities: shipping is and remains the most environmentally friendly modality per unit of cargo/km transported. Grimaldi has developed a case study of the improvements achieved over the last 30 years in terms of CO2 emissions through the deployment of new generation Ro/Ro vessels on the route linking Salerno (Italy) and Valencia (Spain). This has been compared to similar improvements achieved by the road modality. Results are really tough for those who maintain that trucks pollute less than ships. This proved to be untrue both in overall values and when it comes to calculate the actual emission of CO2 for a single trailer over a given number of km. Evidence is given for trucks traveling from Southern Italy to Southern Spain (see graph in this page). A trailer shipped by sea using a ship built in 1980 like the Ro/Ro vessel Malta Express, able to carry up to 80 equivalent trailers, had CO2 emissions of 2,443 kg per equivalent trailer, this was already much less than a trailer GRIMALDI GROUP Via Marchese Campodisola, 13 GNEWS 80133 NAPOLI (Italy) Grimaldi News can be seen on line on www.grimaldi.napoli.it The profile of the next generation Grimaldi Ro/Ro 2010 currently under construction

En v i r o n m e n t Knock-out Blow Over the last 30 years CO2 emissions per trailer shipped by sea have gone down by more than 65%. Between Salerno and Valencia ships emit one third of CO2 compared to trucks transported by road that in 1980, with the Euro 0 engines, had CO2 emissions of 2,704 kg of CO2 per trailer. The environmental advantage has grown continuously over the years as new, larger ships have been deployed with a state-of-the-art shape of the hull and technologically advanced engines. It is interesting to note that once the new Grimaldi Ro/Ro class of vessel is introduced in 2010 on the Salerno/Valencia route, each ship will be able to load onboard 296 trailers having a CO2 emission level of 752 kg per trailer compared to the 2,003 kg CO2 emission per trailer achieved by the Euro 4 and Euro 5 engines mounted in trucks. Once again figures show the reality of things and the willingness of the Grimaldi Group to invest in order to safeguard the environment. Over the last 10 years, Kg. This is what we, at Grimaldi, refer to as social responsibility while backing the European policy of cutting CO2 emissions substantially. Grimaldi can proudly claim that, thanks to these large investments, it is substantially outperforming EU s CO2 reduction target set at 20% by 2020. En v i r o n m e n t New To n n a g e Cruise Roma spells huge CO2 savings Deployment of the revolutionary Cruise Ferry Cruise Roma on the service between Civitavecchia and Rome in late March of this year represents a gigantic step forward in environmental terms. The dimensions and transport capacity of the ship translate to a huge reduction - up to about 40% - of CO2 emissions when compared to the level of emission via road transportation and via airplane of a comparable quantity of cargo and passengers. In a single one/way voyage, the Cruise Roma is capable of transporting 187 trailers and 215 cars (making a total of 214 equivalent trailers) and 2,140 passengers with a total consumption of 88.4 tonnes CO2 Emission: comparison between the m/v Cruise Roma and alternative road/air transport Route analysed: Civitavecchia / Barcelona Km via road 1,275 Km via sea / air 823 Diesel CO2 emission factor 3.13 kg CO2 x kg fuel Bunker ISO 380 CO2 emission factor 3.12 kg CO2 x kg fuel Cruise Roma Transport Capacity 214 trailers equivalent 2,140 passengers Equivalent CO2 emission per trailer 1,290 kg CO2 Total CO2 Emission 275,808 kg CO2 Trucks (Euro 4 engine) Units 214 CO2 Emission per unit 1,315 kg CO2 Total CO2 emission (trucks) 281,346 kg CO2 Airplane CO2 emission 100.6 g CO2 / pax-km* Passengers 2,140 Total CO2 emissions (airplane) 177,180 kg CO2 *source: Air France CO2 Calculator CO2 Comparison Cruise Roma 275,808 kg CO2 Trucks + Airplane 458,526 kg CO2 SHIP ADVANTAGE 182,718 kg CO2 of bunker fuel and a total emission of 276 tonnes of CO2. Transporting the same quantity of trailers and passengers, using trucks and planes would require a total emission of 458 tonnes of CO2; 281 tonnes of CO2 for the trucks and 177 tonnes of CO2 for the airplanes (according to the Air France CO2 calculator). The difference is evident: by having invested 150 billion euros to build the Cruise Roma, the Grimaldi Group is bringing to the community a saving of about 183 tonnes of CO2 per each single voyage and therefore on every single day of the year. This effect is set to double later this year when the sistership Cruise Barcelona joins the Cruise Roma on the same route. The On 14 April, two weeks after having been deployed on her regular shuttle service between Civitavecchia and Barcelona, the Cruise Roma, the newest, largest and most technologically advanced Cruise Ferry in the whole of the Mediterranean was officially inaugurated during a three-day ceremony encompassing a round trip on the route she serves. On Monday, April 14, an event to present the ship to authorities and clients was held onboard while the vessel was moored in Civitavecchia. A similar event was held on April 15 in Barcelona. Hosted on board by the Group co-managing director Emanuele Grimaldi were, amongst others, Prof. Alessandro Bianchi, at that time Italy s Minister of Transport, Mr Fabio Ciani, president of the Civitavecchia Port Authority, Mr Gianni Moscherini, Mayor of Civitavecchia, Mr Giuseppe Bono, ceo of Fincantieri that built the ship and Mr Ugo Salerno, ceo of Rina (the Italian Shipping Register) who delivered to Mr Grimaldi the Green Star Design Certificate for the Cruise Roma. The Green Star notation certifies that the ship has been designed and built in accordance to the most strict environmentally friendly regulations to the point that she has the clean air and clean sea notations too. Cruise Roma deployed on service A cruise including events in Civitavecchia and Barcelona marked the deployment on line of the largest Cruise Ferry in the Med tions underlined Mr Salerno. In Barcelona, guests included Mr Jordi Valls, President of the Barcelona Port Authority, Mr Pasquale Terracciano, Italian Ambassador in Spain, various local institutions, Grimaldi s main customers as well as representatives of the Spanish press. In his speech, Mr Bianchi, Italy s Minister of Transport paid tribute to Grimaldi s effort to promote and develop Europe s Motorways of the Sea network, underlining how the Group is an example for the whole sector. Mr Grimaldi thanked the guests and underlined how the Group is proud to be introducing a pair of twins (the Cruise Barcelona, sister to the Cruise Roma is due for delivery after the summer) that are substantially enhancing the transport capacity on the Civitavecchia / Barcelona route. Their large dimensions and huge intake capacity continued Mr Grimaldi will allow truck operators to cut their soaring operating costs by switching from the congested overland roads onto the sea. At the same time, the whole community is benefiting from our investments as the possibility to transport up to 2,300 passengers, 215 cars and 180 trailers will produce a substantial cut in CO2 emissions when compared to the emissions necessary to transport the same number of cars, trailers and people by road and airplane. During the cruise on the Civitavecchia- Barcelona-Civitavecchia round trip guests had the possibility to enjoy all the amenities offered by the Cruise Roma, including the onboard Casino and the health centre with its large gym and Spa. As usual on the Cruise Roma, at night it was time for music and dancing both at the discoteque and at the Smaila s Club where performer Umberto Smaila sang all the night long. Guests, including one hundred members of the media, disembarked in Civitavecchia on April 16. Li n e Development Brazil to Angola every 10 days From July, the service directly connecting Brazil to Angola and Nigeria will see a third Ro/Ro multipurpose ship deployed on the route. This will result in a significant improvement in both frequency and capacity. Luanda (Angola) will in future be served every 10 days (compared with the present 14-day frequency) from Paranagua and Santos while Lagos will continue to be served monthly. In Lagos, the Africa Express service interconnects with the Europe Africa services to provide oncarrying possibilities to the entire range of African ports served by Grimaldi services. Frequency improved on the much successful Africa Express The objective of this service upgrade is to let the Group participate at the reconstruction programme of Angola undergone by the Government. The Line may consider at any time to improve this service to a weekly one should the market request it. As a second multipurpose Ro/Ro is deployed, frequency for shipments is down to 18 days US to West Africa improvements In June the direct service linking the USA to West Africa has been upgraded through the deployment of a second Ro/ Ro multipurpose vessel. This has taken the frequency down to every 18 days, marking a substantial improvement particularly for container shipments and project cargoes. The sister ships Repubblica di Roma and Repubblica di Amalfi that are deployed on this route are configured to load up to 600 teus in addition to high & heavy Ro/ Ro, cars and project cargoes on mafi trailers. The service is marketed in the US by the Group s subsidiary company antic Container Line (ACL) in New Jersey, and in West Africa by Grimaldi s own network of offices. The direct ports of call are New York, Baltimore, Dakar, Tema, Lome, Cotonou and Lagos with other West African ports served on a transshipment basis. 6 GNEWS

New To n n a g e As four sisterships are delivered in two years, the frequency of the West Africa Southern Express service is to be cut to 8 days Angola launched The first vessel in a string of 12 newbuildings to be built for the Group in the next few years at the Uljanik (Croatia) and Hyundai Mipo (Korea) shipyards, the multipurpose Ro/Ro Angola was launched on May 31. Godmother of the ship was Mrs Maria Carmo Malaguerra, wife of Helder Malaguerra, the Grimaldi Group Director for South America. With a length of 214 metres, a width of 32.25 metres, and a service speed of 20 knots, the 50,000-GT Angola is a multipurpose vessel with an ideal cargo mix of 2,000 cars-vans, 2,000 linear metres of rolling cargo and 800 containers. On this class of ships, the height of the main decks allows the loading of heavy and out of gauge rolling equipment such as trucks, tractors, double-deck buses, big earthmoving equipment, etc. Its sophisticated system of internal ramps/ decks, fixed and hoistable, makes her a very flexible vessel, optimising the loading and unloading of any type of cargo. Its quarter stern ramp allows the loading of cargo units with a weight up to 250 tonnes apiece while its two cranes on the weather deck are able to lift cargo units (containers and general cargo) with a weight of up to 40 tonnes. The Angola will be delivered in September and is due to be deployed on the Southern Express service within the North-Europe-West Africa Network, serving the ports of Amsterdam, Hamburg, Tilbury, Antwerp, Le Havre, Lisbon, Dakar, Luanda, Douala, Takoradi and Abidjan. When all four sisterships to the Angola currently on order are delivered over the next two years, the frequency of this Southern Express service will be upgraded from the current twelve days to eight days. South America Line in Bremerhaven Call The m/v San Paolo was the first ship deployed on the South America Line (northbound) to call Bremerhaven Ro/Ro terminal to discharge new Daimler vehicles being shipped from Brazil. This first Bremerhaven call took place on April 11. On that occasion a small welcome reception was held on board the vessel during which, on behalf of the Group, Cap. Melis welcomed several port officials and representatives of BLG Logistic Automobile management. Grimaldi South America line is now calling Bremerhaven regularly three times a month. Mr Kupke of BLG hands over a welcome present to capt Melis GNEWS 7

Grimaldi Lines awarded as Ro/Ro Line of the Year. ACL got the Star Performer Award for North antic Grimaldi and ACL win Lloyd s Loading List Awards The Grimaldi Group was once again under the spotlight at a ceremony for the 15 th annual Star Performer Awards organised by the Lloyd s Loading List that took place at London s Vinopolis on 18 April. Grimaldi Lines was voted as the winner of the prestigious Ro/Ro Line of the Year Award. The Group, who was also the recipient last year, has now won this award more times than any other Ro/Ro Line operator. At the same time, the Group s subsidiary antic Container Line (ACL) was awarded with the Star Performer 2007 for transit times and schedule reliability on the North antic Route. This liner analysis award is an indication of quality service, widely accepted throughout the industry and given each spring for the previous year s achievements. The Ro/Ro Line of the Year Award was presented by the Publisher of Lloyd s Loading List, Mr Steve Carter to Roy Postlethwaite, Director of Grimaldi UK who accepted the award on behalf of the Group. He commented that this award is particularly important as it is voted for by the readers of the Lloyd s Loading List publication. As for the Award for transit times and schedule reliability on the North antic Route won by ACL, the line serves three UK ports: Liverpool, Thamesport and Southampton to/from the East and Gulf Coast of North America with weekly sailings and fast connections. ACL is one of the only carriers who chronicle quality performance yearly, with a 12-month recap brochure, Focus on Performance. Visit http://www.aclcargo.com for more information on ACL s quality process. The Group in Gothenburg and Barcelona Two European events marked the debut for the Grimaldi Group of a new corporate marketing and communication policy centered on attending exhibitions with a single stand representing all the Group s companies involved in the specific market. On 20/22 May, the Grimaldi Group was therefore at the Ro/Ro conference and exhibition 2008, held at the Svenska Massan in Gothenburg. The Group had one of the biggest stands (pictured) where, in addition to Grimaldi Lines, also the subsidiaries Finnlines, ACL and Wallhamn A.B. (the company managing the Swedish port of Wallhamn) were well represented. From the Northern Sea to the Mediterranean, between 3 and 6 June, was the turn of the 10th International Logistics Exhibition (SIL) that took place in Barcelona. More than three hundred companies, including those part of the Grimaldi Group, attended SIL which has become the most important international transport and logistics conference and exhibition in the whole Mediterranean. Here the Group attended with its Spanish subsidiaries too. Historic Airplane on Euromed A dismantled airplane bound to the Israeli air-force museum was shipped onto the vessel Gran Bretagna, deployed on the Euro-Med Service. Loaded in Antwerp, the airplane was discharged in the port of Ashdod. After undergoing refitting, the airplane will be on show in the Israeli Airforce Museum. GNEWS 9

ACL NEWS A Grimaldi Group Company, antic Container Line s weekly North antic container Ro/Ro /vehicle service has a fixed day schedule calling Baltimore, Portsmouth, Virginia, New York and Halifax in North America, and Liverpool, Antwerp, Hamburg and Gothenburg in Europe. In cooperation with Grimaldi Lines, ACL provides a weekly service for Ro/Ro and container cargo from North America to a wide range of ports in West Africa and a Ro/Ro service to the Mediterranean, South America and beyond. USA exports boom With the North American housing and financial markets in a slump, the weak dollar continues to make U.S. goods more attractive to the rest of the world. Over 5,000 customers now use ACL s container, Ro/Ro and Car Services between North America and Europe, West Africa and the Mediterranean. Our direct services from North America to Europe and West Africa have been fully booked all year, and ACL s reputation for reliability and quality service has enabled it to maintain high utilisation westbound despite the economic obstacles facing European shippers. ACL recorded its highest volume year ever in 2007, with total volumes exceeding 5,100 Teu per week. Roundtrip vessel utilisation increased to 91%. Alternative fueltrucks Four Volvo FM-9 CO2-neutral trucks sailed from Baltimore returning to the factory in Goteborg after being showcased at the Washington, DC International Renewable Energy Conference. These featured vehicles run on different, clean renewable fuels and kicked off a panel discussion on Renewable Fuels for CO2-Neutral Road Transport. These heavy-duty truck models weighed 42 tonnes each with dimensions being 8.81 x 2.54 x 3.99 metres. ACL in Olympic Games As Beijing prepares for the Games of the XXIX Summer Olympics 2008, construction preparations began with this shipment of a portable roofing machine. In February, this 19-tonne self-propelled unit was rushed from Halifax and driven on an ACL vessel via her 420 metric ton capacity stern ramp. Upon arrival in Hamburg, the unit was then loaded for delivery to Xingang (China) and onto The Capital Indoor Stadium to assist with 11 newly renovated venues for the Olympic Games. Guinness world records wooden caber tossed aboard antic Concert The world s largest wooden caber was transported from Liverpool (England) to New York aboard the vessel antic Concert. This work of art was created from Scotland s Glasgow George Square 18.29 metre height Christmas tree. It was transformed into a Guinness World record breaker and donated to New York as a sign of friendship. The City of Glasgow s woodworking charity, The Bullwood Project, commissioned 36 carvers for this special project. These highly skilled master craftsmen spent 2,000 hours transforming the tree into a living piece of art. For its voyage to New York, the caber was trucked from Glasgow, Scotland to Liverpool, England. It was securely lashed on a 40-ton mafi trailer for its transatlantic voyage; it was delivered just in time for New York s Tartan Day Parade on April 5.
