SHADAE SWAN - INTERIM HEAD COACH Shadae Swan is in her 5th season with the Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs, but first full season as the Interim Head Coach. Swan is a graduate of Goucher College, where she earned a bachelor s degree in Communication and Media Studies in 2008 and a Master s of Education with a specialization in Athletic Administration in 2010. As an undergrad, Swan was a member of the women s basketball team where she had a successful career. In Goucher s record book, Swan is ranked first in 3-point field goals, 3-point percentage and free throw percentage; second in scoring; third in scoring average and field goals; fourth in field goal percentage. During her final three years, she was the leading scorer in the conference, received conference honors and was ranked in the top 15 in NCAA Division III scoring. In 2008, Swan began coaching Team Melo s 11 and under girl s basketball AAU program where she helped the team win the Maryland Region championship in 2008 and 2009, placed third in the Maryland Region and fourth in the National D-II Championships. In fall 2009, Swan began coaching with current BSU head coach Renard Smith at Baltimore City Community College where they lead the team to a 27-0 record and captured the 2010 Maryland JUCO and JUCO Region XX Championships. Swan also earned a Master s of Arts in Teaching with a dual certification in Elementary / Middle and Special Education in May 2014 from Goucher College. LAST ACTION FOR THE LADY BULLDOGS... Bloomfield Downs Bowie State s Lady Bulldogs 64-53 BLOOMFIELD, N.J. Bowie State University couldn t seem to get on track on Friday (11/20) evening, falling short at Bloomfield College 64-53 in non-conference women s basketball action. Sophomore Kiara Colston (Burtonsville, Md.) was the leading scorer for the Lady Bulldogs, tallying 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field to go along with five rebounds, two assists and steals. Junior Ashley Jennings recorded her first double-double of the season, adding 10 points and 10 rebounds for Bowie State. Senior Alauna Jackson (Ellicott City, Md.) finished the night with eight points and four rebounds and sophomore Kyah Proctor (Capitol Heights, Md.) along with senior Jourdan Stanhope (Columbus, Ohio) contributed seven and six points respectively for the Lady Bulldogs. Sophomores Jasmine Orsted (Dickson, Tenn.) and Robin Heard (Waldorf, Md.) rounded out Bowie State s scorers with two points apiece. However, Bowie State turned the ball over a season-high 23 times which translated into 19 Bloomfield points. Bloomfield (3-1) was led by the Bears duo of Tianna Smith and Morgan Taylor with 15 and 11 points respectively. Chyna Golden tied for game-high rebound honors with 10 and Taylor pulled down five in the win. The Lady Bulldogs made just 8-of-22 field goals in the first half (36.4 percent), which included 4-of- 8 behind the 3-point line. Colston and Proctor led Bowie State with eight and five points respectively over the first 20 minutes on a combined 5-of-6 shooting from the floor. The Bears took a 30-22 lead into halftime on 11-of-32 shooting from the field (34.4 percent). Bloomfield extended their lead to double-digits at the 7:23 mark of the third quarter to take full control of the game. Bowie State went on a 6-2 run to close the gap to 36-30 on a Colston jumper with 4:34 to go in the third, but the Lady Bulldogs would get no closer. The Lady Bulldogs improved its field goal shooting percentage in the second half (44 percent) but missed all five of their second half 3-point attempts.
