For this reason we present our monthly newsletter to enable you to plan your leisure time during the month of february. We hope it is useful and helps to make your holiday an unforgettable experience. [2]

FITUR 2014 Fuerteventura, which is known as the Beach of the Canaries, was presented at the International Tourism Fair Fitur 2014, after having a remarkable 2013, because 2.2 million tourists visited the island and the number of tourists registered an increase of 4% compared to the previous year's figures. The Island was quite happy with the results obtained at the main national fair, after 36 meetings with the main professionals dedicated to tourism. There were presentations, meetings, co-marketing agreements or promotional agreements with the media, which ensure the presence of the island in the most important European markets, and also in the emerging markets in order to improve the number of tourists who visit the island. Jet2 Jet2 doubles the number of seats to Fuerteventura in 2014. Blas Cabrera and Mario Acosta had a meeting with Janice Matter, General Manager of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, to present an agreement to promote the four new routes to Fuerteventura from British cities by the company from the April, specifically, from East Midlands, Glasgow, Leeds-Bradford, Newcastle and Manchester. It will be the first time that this low cost airline flies to Fuerteventura. Blas Acosta said: "it will fulfill one of the main objectives of the tourism strategy of Fuerteventura, we wanted to open new air routes to enable further visitor arrivals, it means 84,000 new seats to the island with Jet2. Initially, they expected to sold about 45,000, but the demand has been so high that they have almost doubled it", FTI/ TUI UK The German tour operator FTI, one of the most important tour operators for Fuerteventura, has announced an increase of 44% of sales. Similarly, the British division of the tour operator in the Uk, Tui UK, will grow by 19%. The Tourist Board has co-marketing agreements with both companies to promote Fuerteventura in the British and in the German markets, which are the two main markets for the island. More than one million tourists flew to Fuerteventura with them in 2013. Mario Cabrera said: TUI UK and FTI have increased their number of seats this year in Fuerteventura thanks to the co-marketing agreements and to the tourists from the traditional markets that still love the island. This news encourages us to continue working as we have done so far. " [3]

Globalia consolidates the national market The presence of Globalia Group in Fuerteventura is essential for maintaining the connectivity with the national market, as Globalia comprises important companies like the airline Air Europa, the tour operator Travelplan, the agencies Halconviajes.com and Ecuador travel and the hotels Be Live. The co - marketing campaign between Globalia and the Tourist Board to support the image of Fuerteventura is essential. Miguel Angel García, commercial director of the group, presented the agreement with the President of the Cabildo, Mario Cabrera, and the Minister of Tourism, Blas Acosta. Blas Acosta talked about the importance of working in the same way or even reinforcing "the promotion of Fuerteventura in the national market. Fuerteventura is an appreciated destination for the Spanish tourists thanks to its peace, its excellent beaches and an interesting and wide range of water sports and leisure activities. Maintaining this position is essential in order to regain the national tourists." In 2013, the Spanish market was ranked as fifth in importance to the Island because 81,258 tourists visited us. Poland and Italy 80,870 tourists from Italy and 54,559 tourists from Poland visited Fuerteventura in 2013. At Fitur, the Tourist Board has made two agreements with the Italian tour operators Tau Viaggi, which is dedicated to the gay tourism sector, and Settemari. This year we will organize eight workshops with Settemari to promote the destination. With respect to Poland, we have an agreement with Promotur to promote Fuerteventura using large format billboards in cities with flight connections to Fuerteventura. Adam Banczerowski, who works for the tour operator Itaka, had some meetings with the Tourist Board. The Tourist Board will also work with the Polish tour operators Rainbow Tours and Tui Poland in 2014. Fuerteventura is in fashion in France Fuerteventura is very happy because the French tour operator Pierre & Vacances starts working on the island, after assuming the management and marketing of a new hotel that is to open from June. Pierre & Vacances is the largest tour operator in France and the first one in Europe for resorts and apartments rentals. It is already selling 323 luxury villas that also offer a wide range of services and complementary activities mainly oriented to family holidays. The opening of this resort means new seats to fly to Fuerventura and new hotel rooms throughout the year, Blas Acosta said: "it reinforces the expectation of improving the number of tourists visiting the island in 2014 and Mario Cabrera added: "this hotel means a source of jobs and an economic dynamization of La Oliva." The company has said that the hotel will create 140 jobs but they expect to increase it up to 180. [4]

The French Market The French outbound tourism Market continues to consolidate its position as the third most important in operations and visitor numbers to Fuerteventura, behind Germany and the UK. The tour operator Thalasso nº1 sent 65,000 tourists to the Island in 2012 (around 50% of the total in the Island), and has had a considerable weight, taking into account that the numbers which will be known soonis hoped will reach 12,0000 from France. In December, the French tour operator has culminated in a new commercialization event for the destination of Fuerteventura, holding on the island a mini conference where nearly 200 directors from the French Association of Independent Travel Agent attended. Not in vain Thalasso Nº1 has extended its connections with Fuerteventura opening in 2014 direct flights with up to 12 French cities, which means a forecasted increase of between 25 and 30% in packages to sell. 190 representatives of the French Independent Agencies have had meetings and visited the island to know what it has to offer to the tourists and its hotels. To do this, some hotels have helped us like R2, Meliá Gorriones, Bahía Playa, or Barceló, among others. Bernard Garcia, on behalf of the Association of Independent Agencies, announced for the first time that Fuerteventura will be among the four products (destinations) that will be part of a promotional campaign for this year on the French national television valued at 1.5 million euros" paid by the association. Garcia highlighted: "the incredible landscapes and natural environments of Fuerteventura, its possibilities for practicing sports and its historical and cultural values." The Tourist Board and Thalasso nº1 started working together five years ago. In 2009, we organized the first fam trip with Thalasso nº1 to Fuerteventura. Mario Cabrera highlighted: in 2009 Fuerteventura was declared as a world Biosphere Reserve and since that moment, we have made a more sustainable and responsible destination. Blas Acosta also talked about this, he wanted to mention the promotional strategy of Fuerteventura: "as the island is a destination to enjoy nature, we have worked on 225 miles of great paths, we have made new viewpoints for birdwatching, we have equipped the protected areas and we have built environmental and cultural awareness and respect. It is important to mention that it was the first time that Fuerteventura organized this events with independent travel agencies. These travel agencies are interesting because they do not work with the main tour operators. Thalasso nº 1, which is a member of this association, works with these agencies in France to sell its flights, including the new routes between Fuerteventura and twelve French cities. Thalasso nº1 has confirmed direct flights to Fuerteventura from the airports of Paris, Biarritz, Bordeaux, Brest, Clermont Ferrand, Deauville, Dijon, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes and Toulouse in 2014. Apart from that, the Tourist Board works with many French entities like FRAM, Promovacances or TUI France. Also, to strengthen the presence of Fuerteventura in this country, one promoter from the Tourist Board is working at the Spanish Tourist Office in Paris. [5]

NEWS Trade and Travel Shows From the 24-26 January, Fuerteventura was promoted at the most important tourism fair in Dublin, Ireland (Holiday World Show). Our Majorera promoter in Londres, Arminda Delgado, has represented the island together with Lorena Torres (Atlantis Hotels Representative). Fuerteventura was promoted at the most important tourism fair in Utrecht, the Netherlands, "Vakantiebuers 2014". Our Majorero promoter in Paris, Adey Valdivia, represented the island. In 2013, 48,897 tourists from Holland visited Fuerteventura, this number increased by 1,87% compared to 2012. The world's largest travel site Tripadvisor, has chosen Corralejo (Fuerteventura) as the 9th fastest growing travel destination in the world: http://www.tripadvisor.es/travelerschoice-destinationsontherise-ctop10-g1- a_mode.expanded The Tourist Board would like to congratulate Corralejo, its tourism sector and its people on this. We encourage them to keep working as hard as they have done so far. Fuerteventura is the second most important tourist area in Spain According to the Spanish Statistical Office, in December, Fuerteventura was the most important tourist area in Spain. Its average length of stay is 8.51%. The report also highlighted that the highest average length of stay in Spain was in Pájara (9%).
