Parallels Automation Deployment Architectures Overview The system installation network is logically divided into the BackNet, FrontNet, and BackupNet networks. BackNet is not accessible from Internet and intended for communication between system components. FrontNet is accessible from Internet and intended for access to services by the end-users. BackupNet is not accessible from Internet and intended to perform backup and restore operations. The major system components are the POA Management Node and POA Agents. The Management Node manages the whole system by using the POA Agents on nodes. The typical examples of services are the HTTP/FTP/Mail services, which are used by the endusers. Note: The diagram does not include the Linux Shared Hosting NG Service Module. To learn about Linux Shared Hosting NG Service Module structure, refer to the Linux Shared Hosting NG Service Module topic (on page 51). The system installation comprises the two types of nodes. The nodes of first type play the roles of back-ends and host system components and services databases. These nodes are connected to BackNet. The nodes of second type play the roles of front-ends and host system components, web-based interfaces, and services used by the end-users. These nodes are connected to FrontNet and BackNet. Typically, POA Agent is installed on every back-end or front-end node, but exceptions exist. There are two cases of BackNet and FrontNet configuration in terms of physical and IP networks: FrontNet and BackNet networks are the different physical networks, where each has own IP addresses range assigned. The back-end node is attached to the BackNet physical network, and has the BackNet Network Interface Card (NIC) with IP address from the BackNet IP addresses range configured. The typical example of back-end node is the Management Node, which communicates with POA Agents on nodes via BackNet. The front-end node is attached to BackNet and FrontNet physical networks. The BackNet NIC is attached to the BackNet physical network, and the FrontNet NIC is attached to the FrontNet physical network. On the BackNet NIC the IP address from the BackNet IP addresses range is configured, on the FrontNet NIC the IP address from the FrontNet IP addresses range is configured. The BackNet IP address is used by the POA Agent. The FrontNet IP address is used by the services, which are installed on the front-end node. The typical example of front-end node is a web-server node, which hosts POA Agent and HTTP/FTP services. The Management Node manages the web-server node by using of POA Agent via BackNet. HTTP/FTP services are accessible by the end-users via FrontNet.
Parallels Automation Deployment Architectures FrontNet and BackNet networks represent the single physical network. There is single IP addresses range or several different IP addresses ranges may be used. It is recommended to use two different IP addresses ranges to separate BackNet and FrontNet IP addresses space. Every back-end or front-end node has the NIC with BackNet and FrontNet IP addresses configured. The BackNet IP address is used by the POA Agent to communicate with Management Node, the FrontNet IP address is used by the services, which are installed on node. The services bounded to the FrontNet IP address are accessible from Internet. BackupNet, as it was mentioned above, the network intended to perform backup and restore operations. The typical examples of data which should to be backed up regularly are the system database, content of end-users web-spaces, and services databases. There are two cases of BackupNet configuration in terms of physical and IP networks: BackupNet is a separate physical network with own IP addresses range. Every back-end node, which hosts system components that should to be backed up on regular basis, has additional NIC. This NIC is attached to BackupNet physical network and has IP address from BackupNet IP addresses range configured. BackupNet and BackNet represent a single physical network. It means that in practice BackNet is used to perform backup and restore operations. It is strongly recommended to configure BackupNet as separate physical network with own IP address range. Such configuration allows to separate bulk backup-traffic from traffic, which generates by the system components. 15

The ultimate requirement for the server to become a Shared Storage is to have NAS solution supporting NFS3 system with support of remote user quotas configuration. HA NFS Cluster To set up Linux-based High Availability (HA) NFS cluster, you need: 1 Two NFS physical servers. One of them will act as a Primary server, the other - as a Secondary one. 2 A server (virtual or physical) that will function as a quorum server and will monitor the state of NFS servers. 3 STONITH device solution. This can be one or two network power switches controlling the power supply for the NFS servers. Note: For the list of supported STONITH devices, refer to the Supported STONITH Interfaces for HA NFS Cluster section of the POA Hardware Requirements document. STONITH devices should be located in a physically independent network, especially if onboard remote access controllers are used (for example, Dell idrac6). Important: NFS cluster participants should have appropriate firewall ports configuration.
