mikros@mikros.co.za www.mikros.co.za Quick Guide 3 November 2008 Introduction To The Mass Calibration Function Of TeLWinPro Status: Informative Introduction The purpose of this guide is to introduce the Mass Calibration function of the TelWinPro program. This guide is not a complete reference and for the sake of getting started the frame grab and video functions are not illustrated. Basic principles There are basically two calibration modes available in the program: Using calibration trucks of known mass. These are vehicles of which the mass (and other dimensions) are known. Typically a truck or trucks that pass over the WIM site a pre determined number of times. As they pass over the WIM site the event is tagged in the recorded data. Using a random sample of vehicles from the traffic stream. If a weigh station or reference scale is available up stream or down stream from a WIM site vehicles are tagged randomly in the recorded data and the compared with the reference scale. A mixture of both these methods can also be used. The data is stored in the online RUNFILE. The tagged (marked) WIM data is compared to the data in the CALFILE. The RUNFILE is recorded in real time and the user marks (tags) the vehicles that are used for calibration or comparison. The CALFILE is created by the user from information gathered from the reference scales. This information can be imported or entered manually. The calibration function has two modes: Calibration Calibration constants are calculated for each WIM sensor (comprehensive calibration statistics). Verification Current calibration is checked against actual observations (comprehensive verification statistics). (Note there may more than one way of doing setups and displays.) This Quick Guide describes 8 main steps to perform Calibration/Verification with the TelWinPro program. Step 1: Connecting to the Logger and opening a RUNFILE. Step 2: View the RUNFILE. Step 3: Create the calibration CALFILE. Step 4: Mark vehicles in the RUNFILE. Step 5: Loading a created RUNFILE. Step 6: Check and match Calibration/Verification vehicles. Step 7: Calibration/Verification reports. Step 8: Exporting results. Mikros Systems Quick Guide 2/37 Mass Calibration Function Of TelWinPro 3/11/08 - I1
NB: The Logger must be recording individual vehicles in a Weigh program. Step 1: Connect to a logger and open the RUNFILE (Logger/Connect/Modes/Enable/OK) Click on the Connect icon (1) Select Traffic (2) Select Modes (3) Click Enable File Capture (4) Check the RUNFILE name and path and Select (5) The RUNFILE name is the date with and.run file extension. The file is by default stored in the directory RUNData\ site number \yyyymmdd.run When OK is clicked the program will indicate that online RUNFILE recording is now active. All the online traffic is now recorded directly into the RUNFILE. Normal logging is not interrupted by this process. The online parameters displayed (controlled by the Show command) do not influence the actual parameters recorded in the RUNFILE. Step 2: View the RUNFILE (View) Mikros Systems Quick Guide 4/37 Mass Calibration Function Of TelWinPro 3/11/08 - I1
Tab sheets of the RUNFILE: RUN Data: Basic The Basic online on line traffic information such as: Speed, Lane, Length etc. The RUN No. is the number of the vehicle in the RUNFILE (from start of recording). The LOG No. is the number of the vehicle in the logger memory since start of logging. AxleInfo The individual axle masses and axle spacing recorded. Shape The profile of the vehicle as cheeked against the vehicle file. Violation Info The violations if this is set in the site data base (over speed, weight) Picture 1 The frame grab picture from camera 1. Picture 1 The frame grab picture from camera 1. Info The RUNFILE path and name, the site number and the number of lanes Selection of Profile: Mikros Systems Quick Guide 5/37 Mass Calibration Function Of TelWinPro 3/11/08 - I1
The profile of the vehicles is a scaled drawing and the shape is selected according to the classification code from the Vehicle File. Some profiles overlap and a suggested list is provides. As time goes on the Vehicle File gets refined and updated by users. The Vehicle File can be accessed on the Control Panel. Available Mode Selection: The Mode Selection in the RUNFILE viewer (recorder) allows for the selection recording modes: Live Allows for the live recording of online traffic, must set on (ticked). Edit Must be selected to allow for editing the RUNFILE, edit allows for CAL DATA (VERIFICATION DATA) to be entered in the RUNFILE. Calibration must be selected when doing WIM calibration. Statistics must be selected when doing classification verifications. Speed must be selected when doing speed calibration (verification). NOTE: To be able to do WIM calibration the data of the calibration trucks must be entered and then matched to the collected RUN DATA. STEP 3: Create a CALIBRATION FILE (CAL FILE) The CAL file can be created before or after the RUN FILE recording. NOTE: To match the RUN DATA to the CAL DATA care must be taken to clearly identify the match. When cameras are used it reduces possible miss-match errors. If no cameras are used the RUN DATA must be clearly marked with Marking vehicles, entering the correct registration numbers and descriptions. Also keep a list of the RUN NUMBER associated with a particular calibration vehicle. If there is any doubt about a match between the RUN and CAL data the record must be excluded from the calculations. Mikros Systems Quick Guide 9/37 Mass Calibration Function Of TelWinPro 3/11/08 - I1
