This is an open pilot study designed to test the feasibility and acceptability of a telephone-delivered behavioral activation and problem-solving psychotherapy to rural Iraq and Afghanistan veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder and alcohol misuse, with or without co-morbid depression. Cooperative Studies Project 566: Neuropsychological and mental health outcomes of OIF: A longitudinal cohort study. Site Investigator for Department of Veteran Affairs CSP 566 ($7,800,000), a two-site research study examining health effects of the Iraq War, especially those effects involving mental health. This study is a follow-up to the Neurocognition Deployment Health Study (NDHS). The specific purpose of CPS566 is to find out more about the longer
lasting effects of war on mood and stress symptoms, thinking and reaction skills, and different aspects of day to day life, such as work and daily activities (Primary Investigator: Jennifer Vasterling, PhD). Implementing Collaborative Care for Depression Plus PTSD in Primary Care.
