The General Trend Steady growth of mobile services, also at the expense of traditional fixed telephony, and the trend is not driven by cost, but by convenience www.elitel.biz 10
Enterprise Mobility Today Almost two-thirds of voice and data minutes now occur 'at work' or 'at home More than one-third of the employees regularly use their mobile phone around the office Over two-thirds of laptop users have WiFi, though over one-third 'rarely ' or 'never' use it Over 40 percent of the interviewed people are interested in a mobile extension of their PBX Half are interested in wireless email, with attachment handling and QWERTY-enabled text composition, which is deemed essential by about one-third Source: "Understanding Usage, Proficiencies & Pain Points in Western European Business Cellular Users - Strategy Analytics, August 2005 www.elitel.biz 11

Mobile VoIP and Dual-Mode Phones Consistent growing expectations from market analysts "FMC will drive the adoption of next-generation handsets, primarily dual-mode Wi-Fi/cellular handsets, which will enable users to seamlessly handover from a cellular mobile network to a WiFi one and vice versa, so as to provide optimum quality of service Source: Frost & Sullivan - November 2006 The fastest growing segment in the market by far is the dual-mode WiFi/cellular VoIP phone, with worldwide units shipping at a phenomenal rate: the 5-year forecasts is for a compound annual growth rate of 198% between 2006 and 2010. Source: Infonetics Research - January 2007 Worldwide VoIP over Wi-Fi equipment revenues are expected to reach over $82bn by 2012. North America will lead the market at $35bn in revenues, along with EMEA (Europe, Middle East Africa) with $23bn and Asia Pacific with $21bn. Dual Mode Mobile Handsets (Cellular/VoIP over WiFi) will dominate this market generating almost $68bn in revenues by 2012 Source: Juniper Research - February 2007 www.elitel.biz 17
In a Nutshell The full vision of FMC is for people to use one device with one number, one address book and one voice mailbox, always using the lowest cost network for connectivity. FMC leverages dual-mode devices to take advantage of less expensive, high-speed connectivity within the office, the home or a public hotspot location, while enjoying wide-ranging mobility on existing mobile phone networks. www.elitel.biz 18
IMS IP Multimedia Subsystem IMS seems today to be the most promising approach to fully accomplish the FMC vision to deliver compelling next generation communication services to people: It is based on IP and compatible with SIP (the winning VoIP signaling standard),. thus it will also be capable of smoothly integrating the current IP-Centrex VoIP platforms. However, some more time is needed to see IMS completely defined and implemented and fully exploit it. www.elitel.biz 19

What About UMA/GAN? UMA/GAN (Unlicensed Mobile Access/Generic Access Network) is an opportunistic FMC solution from the mobile operators world: It extends mobile voice and data GSM/GPRS services over unlicensed spectrum technologies (including both WiFi and Bluetooth) Whilst of some interest for Consumers, it is not a viable solution for Businesses (as it does not provide a true integration between the enterprise telephony systems and mobile voice networks) It also does not integrate well with SIP and it has not a clear migration strategy towards IMS www.elitel.biz 21

Conclusions Fixed-Mobile Convergence is multifaceted, as it is not all about network technologies. The spreading of wireless LANs and the growing availability of reliable and reasonably priced dual-mode phones is accelerating the adoption of Mobile VoIP. Looking at solutions, IMS, and not UMA/GAN, seems today to be the most promising approach to fully accomplish the FMC vision and deliver compelling next generation services in the mid-long term. In the meantime, there is already the possibility to concretely take advantage of the first significant benefits of FMC. In particular, mobile VoIP solutions based on dual-mode phones connected over WiFi to IP-Centrex platforms, like Elitel Futura TWIN, can provide Business customers with seamless access to the organization s telephony system, inside and outside the working place; as well as save significantly on telecommunications costs. www.elitel.biz 35
