Fun Dual Facts The optimal window for language acquisition is in the elementary years Students in dual immersion programs function at a higher level than students who are only learning one language Most effective program for English Language Learners 40+ years of research Over 300 DI programs in US According to CDE s 2010-2011 Two Way Bilingual Directory, Glendale offers more dual immersion language choices than any other district in California Glendale offers 7 languages: Armenian, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean & Spanish 10 schools offer languages: Edison, Franklin, Jefferson, Keppel, Monte Vista, Muir, RD White, Verdugo Woodlands, Toll M.S.& Hoover H.S. 25% of GUSD kindergartners are enrolled in a dual immersion program. Based on that percentage, by the time all GUSD dual immersion classes are fully operational in grades K-12 (in 2019-2020) upwards of 5,000 students will be enrolled in dual immersion programs district-wide.
Dual Commitment -This is a long term commitment - at least 6 years -Every child is different -If you are having doubts, we recommend that you meet with teacher first. Then you meet with Ms. Anderson. -If you want to switch programs, you must re-apply and go through the lottery process
