Lockheed Martin STEM Outreach Lockheed Martin s Engineers in the Classroom (EITC) education outreach initiative is designed to identify, develop and inspire students toward entering careers that have their foundation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses. Engineers in the Classroom supports a wide-range of best-practice programs that contain STEM content that aligns with local, state or national standards of learning. Through EITC s portfolio of programs, events and campaigns, Lockheed Martin is reaching students and educators at various levels of engagement large audience awareness, small group participation and one-on-one interaction.

Lockheed Martin STEM Outreach Minorities in Engineering Day The purpose of the event is to encourage young men and women to explore the fields of science, mathematics, and engineering. This one day conference brings high school students from Northern Virginia schools to the Lockheed Martin Manassas site for an exciting, hands-on exploration of science, engineering, and technology applications. Through dynamic and interactive sessions, this day is designed to encourage young men and women to investigate the world of engineering and the career opportunities that are available to them. 14

FIRST ANNUAL MINORITIES IN ENGINEERING DAY FEBRUARY 23, 2007 Manassas Employees Introduce Local Students to Career Possibilities in Engineering Manassas employees introduced 53 minority students from five local high schools in Prince William County and Manassas Park to the exciting world of engineering during the first Minorities in Engineering Day event on Feb. 23. Students from Gar-Field High School, Osbourn Park High School, Potomac Sr. High School, Stonewall Jackson High School and Manassas Park High School spent the day learning about engineering career opportunities and the qualities important for success in engineering. During the event, the students participated in a hands-on, team-oriented engineering challenge project that involved requirements and constraints, knowledge sharing and understanding differing points of view. In addition, they toured labs, spoke with a panel of engineers and met with representatives from universities and professional organizations who provided information about educational and professional opportunities in engineering. Software Engineer Tashika Hussey helps students with the "Build a Bridge" activity during the first annual "Minorities in Engineering Day." 15

SEVENTH ANNUAL MINORITIES IN ENGINEERING DAY MARCH 8, 2013 Manassas Celebrates Minorities in Engineering On March 8, employees supported the seventh annual Minorities in Engineering day in Manassas. Jason Calhoun, Prince William County Public Schools Supervisor of Science and Family Life Education, attended the event along with 58 students and 8 educators from local Prince William County Schools. Keynote speaker Richard Wright, Lockheed Martin Director of Global Engineering & Security Services, welcomed the students to an exciting day of learning and discovery into the world of engineering. The students conducted various activities throughout the day including a hands-on approach to teaching the students about requirements, planning, teamwork, and of course, engineering. Additional activities in support of Minorities in Engineering day included an Employee Career Panel, which gave students the opportunity hear it straight from our engineers and have a chance to ask questions, college fair and lab tour. 16

Lockheed Martin STEM Outreach Women in Engineering Day The purpose of the event is to encourage young women to explore the fields of science, mathematics, and engineering. This one day conference will bring tenth grade female students from Northern Virginia schools to the Lockheed Martin Manassas site for an exciting, hands-on exploration of science, engineering, and technology applications. Through dynamic and interactive sessions, this day is designed to encourage young women to investigate the world of engineering and the career opportunities that are available to them. 17

FIRST ANNUAL WOMEN IN ENGINEERING DAY NOVEMBER 12, 2004 Lockheed Martin Manassas employees introduced 39 female high school students from 13 local high schools in Prince William County to the exciting world of engineering during the first Women in Engineering Day event on November 12. During the event, the students participated in a hands-on, team-oriented engineering challenge project that entitled Tower Building to meet different engineering objectives. The students also participated in an Career Fair with engineering demonstrations. Other Lockheed Martin sites also celebrated their first annual Women in Engineering Day: - Akron, OH - Baltimore, MD - Eagan, MN 18

FOURTH ANNUAL WOMEN IN ENGINEERING DAY NOVEMBER 30, 2007 Lockheed Martin introduces girls to the world of engineering Lockheed Martin introduced 100 female students from 18 local high schools to the exciting world of engineering during the company s fourth annual Women in Engineering Day event held at its Manassas facility. During the day-long event the students and 18 chaperones learned about the many exciting careers offered in the field of engineering and what it takes to be an engineer as well as meeting other girls who share common interests in math and science. 19

EIGHTH ANNUAL WOMEN IN ENGINEERING DAY DECEMBER 7, 2012 On Dec. 7, 98 sophomore and junior girls from 16 local high schools visited the Manassas site for a full day of activities including facility and lab tours, a teamoriented engineering challenge project, an employee panel discussion, guest speakers and representatives from 10 universities. Keynote speaker Lisa Callahan, Lockheed Martin MST Undersea Systems Vice President and General Manager, welcomed the students to an exciting day of learning and discovery into the world of engineering. This annual event, planned and executed by a talented team of employee volunteers, brings together high school girls with a demonstrated interest in math and science with Lockheed Martin engineers in hope of encouraging more young women to pursue engineering careers. Women in Engineering Day is a great opportunity to break the stereotypes of engineering and showcase what the field is all about in a fun and informative setting, said Marletha Dyer, Manassas Site Women in Engineering Day Coordinator. I hope this event motivates and inspires young women to consider future studies in engineering-related fields. 20

USA Science & Engineering Festival Lockheed Martin is also proud to be the Founding and Presenting Host of the third annual USA Science & Engineering Festival, the nation s largest celebration of all things science & engineering. The festival is designed to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers with school programs and nationwide contests, as well as a finale Expo in Washington, D.C. on April 26-27, 2014, that includes hands-on activities and performances 21

Lockheed Martin Engineering Disciplines Aeronautical Engineering Aeronautical engineers are the intellectual descendents of the Wright Brothers, who made aviation history in 1903 with the first powered airplane flight. Today, aeronautical engineers design and develop some of the most exciting machines imaginable. Education: Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering or a related field Projects: Design, develop and deploy faster and more agile aircraft. Electrical Engineering There is very little that touches us in our daily lives that an electrical engineer did not have something to do with-from the generation, transmission and distribution of electrical power, to computer hardware and consumer electronics. Lockheed Martin Engineering Disciplines Mechanical Engineering If it's a machine-anything from the engine in a supersonic jet fighter to the toaster in your kitchen-a mechanical engineer was involved. In addition, almost anything that is massproduced-from your pencil to your favorite candy bar-is made by machines that were designed by mechanical engineers. Lockheed Martin Engineering Disciplines Software Engineering Software engineers deal with all aspects of computer systems. They design them, build them and operate them. They also develop the software systems that operate computers. Education: Bachelor's degree in software or electrical engineering or a related field Projects: Define and develop. Code and test. Integrate and sustain Systems Engineering Systems engineers look at the big picture. They're the people who have to think about how all the components of a project will work together as a system. They work in teams with engineers from all the different disciplines involved in a project and deal with cost, scheduling, design, function, and even a project's social impact.
