3 In the 20th century, the achievements of the Sputnik generation workforce propelled the US position as the world leader in the development of new technologies and products 26% of STEM degree holders in the labor force are age 50 or older 40% of STEM PhDs are 50 and older Since 1975, the US dropped from, 3rd to 13th in the world for the proportion of 24 year olds that hold engineering degrees Aerospace and Defense industry continues to grow 20% over last 5 years UAS market is forecast to double in next decade Not enough US students are opting for STEM careers US is not producing enough qualified workers to meet demand of Aerospace and Defense companies

4 170,000 Ohioans employed in Aerospace and Defense 7,000+ job increase in Aerospace industry in Ohio over next 10 years In 2018, Ohio will be #11 in the nation for STEM jobs with a 274,000 jobs Companies hire 10% new employees/year (27K new STEM requirements annually in Ohio) Annually students in Ohio received 66,000 total bachelors degrees (15K in STEM) Students in Ohio receive 35,000 associates degrees (11K in STEM) Every year in the US, approximately 28 percent of bachelor s degree students and 20 percent of associate s degree students chose a STEM field of study. Fewer than 40 percent of students who enter college intending to major in a STEM field follow through and complete a STEM degree.
