Welcome to the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC)! As an incoming semester exchange student you are eligible to study at NSCC in the first semester of year two (arrival end of August, semester starts beginning of September and ends mid- December) in the following programs: Electrical Engineering Technology Mechanical Engineering Technology Civil Engineering Technology Environmental Engineering These technology programs are offered at the Waterfront Campus in Halifax-Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, on the Atlantic coast of Canada. Halifax is a student city with five universities and three campuses of NSCC. This environmentally-friendly campus, with its incredible views of the Halifax Harbour, was designed with our focus on student learning at its core. Modern design, open spaces, state-of-the-art technology, along with exciting clusters of programs, all add to the dynamic learning environment. The campus receives high marks for its green building practices. The campus hosts 2,500 full-time students and 2,500 part-time students.

Electrical Engineering Technology An Engineering Technologist is trained to understand the basic principles in the design and safe function of electrical power systems including commercial lighting and automated controls. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills are an asset in this program especially when it comes to designing, testing and troubleshooting equipment and systems. The program content emphasizes electrical power distribution, power system management and control, power electronics, computerized lighting system design, industrial control systems including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), data acquisition systems and process instrumentation. The program provides both classroom and laboratory experience in a wide variety of electrical technologies. Courses Available to International Students: YEAR 2 Fall Semester 1 15 Weeks Sept Dec Code Course Hours ELTG 3009 PLCS and Automation 120 ELTG 3004 Electrical Power Distribution I ELTG 3003 Industrial Electronics ELTG 3000 Calculus II ELTG 3023 Industrial Electrical Machines II Mechanical Engineering Technology Mechanical Engineering Technology emphasizes mathematics, communications and problem solving skills in mechanical engineering design; technical drawing and writing; material and equipment testing; and manufacturing and construction. The program is broad based with emphasis in three main areas: machine design - the design of mechanical components by an analysis of the forces and motions involved and the selection of construction materials, thermal power - the design, testing and analysis of power generation facilities, internal combustion engines, gas turbines, and refrigeration, heating and ventilating systems, and fluid power - the design, testing and analysis of pumping, piping, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Courses Available to International Students: YEAR 2 Fall Semester 1 15 Weeks Sept Dec Code Course Hours METG 3001 Kinematics METG 3007 Machine Design I METG 3005 Thermodynamics I METG 3004 Applied Research Techniques I METG 3003 Mechanical CAD II 30 METG 3002 Electric Machines

Civil Engineering Technology Civil engineering involves the planning, designing, construction, and maintenance of structures and public works, and altering geography to suit human needs. Civil Engineering Technologists work on various aspects of built structures, highways, marine structures, municipal infrastructure, and more. This program gives you an overview of the field in the context of environmental sustainability, so that you can develop projects that are feasible, practical, and ecologically sensitive. Participating in the development or construction of a project is an empowering process, where you can see the results of your efforts. In this program, you learn and apply engineering principles and practices to analyze and solve complex technical problems, test and analyze materials and structural elements and research and prepare graphical and other technical documents. You also learn to interpret the National Building Code and other Codes, Standards and Regulations appropriate to the practice of civil engineering. Courses Available to International Students: YEAR 2 Fall Semester 1 15 Weeks Sept Dec Code Course Hours CETG 1103 Structural Design I CETG 1017 Technical Research Report I 45 CETG 1015 Geomechanics I CETG 1014 Engineering Regulations CETG 1011 Municipal Design I 120 CETG 1020 Construction Management I 45

Environmental Engineering Technology Fresh water plays an indispensable role in economic development and ecosystem integrity as a source of drinking water and in the quality of life in general. This resource, in its useful form, is not inexhaustible and continues to be affected by watershed and aquifer mismanagement, misappropriation of supply, contaminants originating from domestic and industrial sources, as well as other human or natural interferences. This program is designed to provide learners with the skills and knowledge for groundwater exploration and evaluation, supervision of water well drilling programs, water resources management, water chemistry, remedial operations in response to ground and surface water contamination, sampling and data collection and analysis, water well and well field design, facilities maintenance and engineering inspection, civil engineering, and water and waste-water testing and treatment. The Water Resources Technology Program is Nationally Accredited by the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists (CCTT) at the Technologist level. The program educates and trains individuals to be specialists in water resources management. The objective is to provide the competencies, knowledge and skills required for employment as a technologist who can assume responsibility in the development, use, management and protection of fresh water resources. Courses Available to International Students: YEAR 2 Fall Semester 1 15 Weeks Sept Dec Code Course Hours ENTG 3001 Soil Science ENTG 3000 Limnology ENTG 3005 Drilling and Well Construction 120 ENTG 3004 Water Supply and Treatment ENTG 3003 Surface Water Hydrology ENTG 2015 Geographic Information Systems I 30 * International Students will be required to complete mandatory safety training during studies at NSCC.
