1 Long Island University Brooklyn Campus Articulation Agreement Agreement initiated by: Sending College: Department: Program: Degree: Receiving College: Department: Program: Degree: Brooklyn Campus, Long Island University LaGuardia Community College, CUNY Department of Natural and Applied Sciences Occupational Therapy Assistant Program AS Brooklyn Campus, Long Island University School of Health Professions Division of Occupational Therapy BS/MS Overview The purpose of this articulation agreement is to provide an opportunity for LaGuardia Community College (LGCC) graduates of the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Program to enter the Long Island University (LIU) Occupational Therapy (OT) Professional Program and receive credit for LGCC OTA coursework. A. Preprofessional Coursework 1. Preprofessional coursework consists of liberal arts and science prerequisite courses that LGCC OTA graduates must complete in order to be admitted to the LIU OT Professional Program. LGCC OTA graduates complete 29 credits of liberal arts and sciences as part of their LGCC AS degree. The Brooklyn Campus Office of Admissions will apply these 29 credits towards the BS/MS dual degree in Occupational Therapy: LaGuardia Liberal Arts & Sciences Equivalent LIU Liberal Arts & Sciences ENG 101 Composition English Composition (ENG 16) ENG 102 Writing Through Literature English Literature (ENG 17) SCB 203 Fundamentals of Human 4 cr. LGCC OTA graduates with an AS degree will be considered to have met LIU Brooklyn Campus core curriculum requirements for a baccalaureate degree.

To earn the BS/MS in Occupational Therapy at LIU, LGCC OTA graduates are required to complete an additional 3 of prerequisite liberal arts/sciences (as the New York State Education Department requires graduates of BS programs to have 6 of liberal arts/sciences). Seventeen of these 3 are prerequisite courses required by the LIU Occupational Therapy Professional Program: Occupational Therapy Prerequisites General Biology (BIO 3 & 4) Algebra/Finite Math (Math 16) Statistics (MAT 100 or PSY 150) Intro Sociology or Anthropology (Soc 3) Total 8 cr. 17 cr. The above 17 credits are required by the LIU OT Professional Program, even if the student has 64 credits of liberal arts and sciences. General Biology (8 credits) and Statistics () must be completed prior to entering the LIU OT Professional Program. Science courses more than 10 years old cannot be accepted. To earn 6 of liberal arts and sciences, LGCC OTA graduates must complete an additional 18 credits of liberal arts and sciences: Additional Required Liberal Arts and Sciences Elective Liberal Arts/Sciences Total Required Liberal Arts and Sciences 18 cr. 3 All students must have 6 of liberal arts and sciences, including the 17 credits of required OT prerequisites. 4. Students should complete at least 2 of the outstanding 35 liberal arts and science prerequisite credits prior to entering the LIU OT Professional Program. The remaining 1 must be completed during both the Fall and Spring semesters of the student s first year in the LIU OT Professional Program, along with the initial OT professional courses. Once students enroll in the LIU OT Professional Program at the Brooklyn Campus, all outstanding liberal arts and science courses must be completed at the LIU Brooklyn Campus.

3 B. Professional Coursework Professional coursework consists of courses in the OT Professional Program. LGCC OTA graduates will receive transfer credit for 2 of their OTA LGCC coursework. These transfer credits will exempt students from coursework deemed equivalent in the OT Professional Program at LIU. The Brooklyn Campus of Admissions will apply these transfer credits towards the BS/MS dual degree in Occupational Therapy. LaGuardia OTA Courses LIU OT Courses (Exempt) SCO 101 Intro to OT 2 cr. Admission Requirements for LIU BS/MS OT Program (e.g., minimum GPA) Candidates for admission to the LIU Brooklyn Campus, as occupational therapy students must have a minimum grade of C in all courses considered for transfer. Students must have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.0 for acceptance into the Occupational Therapy Professional Program. LIU offers a transfer scholarship program for undergraduate students. Automatic scholarships are awarded upon acceptance according to designated grade-point averages. Current transfer scholarship rate information is available from Financial Aid for the University Scholar s Award, Presidential Scholarship, Provost s Excellence Award, and Academic Incentive Award. (Refer to the LIU website at http://www.brooklyn.liu.edu/enroll/ and then go to Financial Aid for descriptions of specific awards.) Basic Considerations This agreement applies only to graduates of the LaGuardia Community College Occupational Therapy Assistant Program. Applicants requesting consideration under this articulation agreement must follow all application procedures of Long Island University. Selection of successful applicants will be made by the Occupational Therapy Professional Program of Long Island University. This agreement may be modified in accordance with curriculum changes. Students taking fewer than 1 per semester at LIU will not be eligible for financial aid. Reserved Seats Up to five seats per academic year will be reserved for eligible LGCC OTA program graduates who meet the LIU criteria.
