The parts of a business letter are examined in detail, as are the guidelines for organizing and writing a letter. Students will learn how to write neutral and inquiry letters, as well as positive and negative letters. Proper punctuation and word usage skills are also addressed. The latter part of the course deals with creating envelopes and labels using Microsoft Word, as well as writing and managing e-mail using Microsoft Outlook. Writing and creating memos, fax cover sheets, and forms using Microsoft Word templates are also covered. [[Prerequisite: Microsoft Word 2007 - Level 1, Microsoft Outlook 2007 - Level 1] BSC03E2 Business Correspondence Level 2 This course places emphasis on editing and proofreading business letters covered in Level 1, as well as additional documents required in business. This course is designed specifically for the correspondence required in a corporate environment. Students will learn how to create form letters using Microsoft Word s Mail Merge Wizard, how to prepare, organize and write a report using various report styles and supplementary parts, how to prepare proposals and quotations using boilerplates, how to plan meetings and prepare agendas for various types of meetings, and how to take and prepare minutes at a meeting. The course is designed so that tasks can be completed using a PC or directly in the workbook. A PC will be used to complete the final exam. BSES1E1 Business Essentials This course covers the fundamentals of business and the functional areas of management, marketing, operations, accounting, information systems, finance, and legal studies. The course will address the management side of business, examine the importance of marketing and human resources and the way businesses manage information for both internal users and reporting to external constituents. In addition, the course will present the financial elements of business. The course is aimed for anyone preparing for a business career. The course will include relevant case studies, Internet and application exercises.

BFM04E1 Business Financial Management This course teaches students about the fundamentals of business financial management, and helps them to develop core competencies to understand and analyze financial information presented in typical business scenarios. The course focuses on the principles of accounting and reporting of financial data to various outside parties, such as bankers and potential equity investors. Students learn what information is provided in financial statements, to use elements of financial statements in making constructive short-term and long-term business decisions, and how such decisions affect the bottom line. BEA04E1 Business in the Electronic Age This course introduces students to the effects the Internet and other modern technological innovations have had on the global business landscape, specifically the components of ebusiness: business to business commerce, business to consumer commerce, and internal business processes. It focuses on how technology has altered the way businesses operate, with respect to communications, distribution, sales and marketing, procurement, and the management of information. In addition, students examine how organizations use the Internet and software systems to remain productive and competitive in their existing marketplaces, thereby driving technological innovation. BUS225 Business Law This course is designed to familiarize business executives with the types of legal problems that occur in society, in general, and in the business world, in particular. Various areas of law will be reviewed including Contracts, Sales, Agency, and Government Regulation of labor and business. Ethical considerations regarding the application of the principles studied will also be examined. By the end of the course the student should be able to recognize legal problems ( spot the issues ) when they arise, determine available actions, and make an appropriate management decision. BMA06E1 Business Math This course is designed to introduce students to helpful tools that will enable them to perform quick, easy, and accurate basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. They will also learn to round numbers, calculate percentages, fractions, and decimals, as well as calculate interest, payments on loans, net present values, and returns on investments. Finally, students will compare leasing and purchasing options, look at break-even points, explore statistical terminology, and calculate and display various statistics. BPS05E1 Business Presentations This course is designed to introduce students to tools and techniques used to create and deliver effective presentations to many types of audiences, including managers, colleagues and existing and prospective clients. Students are given the opportunity to explore and practice these techniques throughout the course. Students gain insight into producing effective presentations at each stage of the presentation development process, i.e., planning, creating, strengthening, and delivery. Students are given the opportunity to practice, apply, and develop presentation skills through the completion of hands-on tasks and exercises found throughout each lesson. BSS05E1 Business Supervisory Skills This course is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to function as an effective supervisor/manager. It provides students with strategies for motivating staff, building

effective teams, managing stress and change in the workplace, resolving conflict, and dealing with diversity. Students prepare for leadership roles by assessing their own personal leadership style, and improving Emotional Intelligence (EQ) in order to effectively work with and motivate employees. Students are given the opportunity to practice, apply, and develop business supervisory skills through the completion of exercises throughout the lessons. CSR04E1 Customer Service This course teaches students the fundamentals of customer service, and help them to develop core competencies for providing excellent customer service. Students learn the definition of customer service, who their customers are, and how to be customer service oriented through description and examples. They learn tips for managing time and stress, communicating effectively with customers, and managing customer relationships. The course highlights being prepared, and dealing professionally with customer conflicts and complaints. It identifies common customer service pitfalls and explains how to avoid making them. It also emphasizes the importance of gathering and responding to customer feedback, and maintaining a professional image. Students are given ample opportunity to practice, apply and develop their customer service skills through the completion of hands-on tasks. The tasks focus on identifying good and bad customer service techniques, by analyzing and responding to various customer service scenarios. HRM04E1 Human Resource Management This course introduces students to the key concepts and processes of effective human resource management, and exposes them to this dynamic and diverse field. This course provides a foundation in theory and practice of techniques and activities that organizations utilize in acquiring, developing, and maintaining an effective workforce. Topics include human resources planning, recruitment and selection of staff, training and development, performance appraisal, compensation, and employee safety, security, and health. Current events, relevant legislation, and future trends are also explored. BUS203 Macroeconomics In this course students will study the fundamentals of economic analysis by applying economic principles to macroeconomic problems, including inflation, employment, growth, business cycles, and governmental budgets. Emphasis will be placed on evaluating real world events using methods of economic analysis, with focus on theories, equations, and graphs as diagnostic tools, and on the role of fiscal policy and monetary policy in macroeconomic stabilization. Students successfully completing this course will have an understanding of basic economic principles focused on the market system, and will be able to think about world events from an economic perspective. MFN06E1 Management Fundamentals This course is an introductory management course that provides students with the essential tools required of today s effective supervisors or junior managers. The course combines theoretical, howto information, with practical applications. Students are required to draw on their own experiences, to research information, and to apply their knowledge to typical junior management situations. The course provides students with a balance of soft and hard skills. The soft skills students will develop and apply to realistic case studies include communication, problem-solving, decision-making, negotiating, planning and organizing, time management, facilitating, and co-ordinating. The hard skills include setting goals and objectives; preparing forecasts and budgets; using planning and organizing tools; maintaining records; drafting training and development plans, procedural checklists, and reward initiatives; and developing strategies.

MKS04E1 Marketing and Sales This course introduces students to the theory and application of modern marketing concepts, principles, and techniques, and examines the importance of marketing in society as well as within a company. With the objective of learning how to develop a comprehensive marketing strategy and creating loyal customers, the major components of the marketing mix are studied. The role of marketing is explored at the local, national, and international level. Both the final consumer and the business customer are considered. This course explores concepts relating to Consumer Behavior, Marketing Segmentation and Targets, Positioning, Branding and Brand Management, Advertising and Promotion, Packaging, Pricing, and other components of the marketing mix. Learning objectives for each lesson are accomplished through a combination of theory and conceptual application within exercises. Students are given ample opportunity to practice, apply, and develop their marketing and sales skills through review questions and practical exercises. Multimedia content is incorporated in this course to introduce, discuss, and enhance the learning experience. BUS204 Microeconomics This course deals with the behavior of individual households and firms. Students will study how households make decisions about what goods to buy, and they will also learn how firms make decisions about what to produce and how to produce it. Examining the behavior of households and firms will give students the necessary insight to understand how the interaction between consumers demands and producers supplies determines prices in the marketplace. EXC07M1 Microsoft Excel 2007 Level 1 This course teaches students to create and manage worksheets and workbook files; enter data and create basic formulas to perform calculations. They learn to edit and manipulate cell content, modify worksheet structure, view and format worksheets, and use Excel s predefined functions. Students use the Find and Replace feature, use themes to format workbooks and practice preparing, previewing, and printing worksheets. Students accomplish the learning objectives for each lesson through a series of hands-on tasks, for which they are given step-by-step instructions and desired result checkpoints. The tasks provide ample opportunity for students to practice, apply, and develop the skills covered in the course. EXC07M2 Microsoft Excel 2007 Level 2 This course teaches students intermediate to advanced-level concepts and features of the Microsoft Excel 2007 application. In this course, students learn to customize Microsoft Excel and streamline workflow by building upon the basic skills learned in the Microsoft Excel 2007 Level 1 course. They learn to use named references, validate and consolidate data, use links and hyperlinks, and reference external data. Students learn to use cell comments, custom and conditional formatting, styles, and templates. They also practice working with graphics, charts, diagrams, and databases (lists). OTL07M1 Microsoft Outlook 2007 - Level 1 This course teaches students how to use both the e-mail program and the personal information manager components of Microsoft Outlook. The skills learned in this course will help students use Microsoft Outlook effectively both at work and in your personal life. Students accomplish the learning objectives for each lesson through a series of hands-on tasks, for which they are given stepby-step instructions and desired result checkpoints. The tasks provide ample opportunity for students to practice, apply, and develop the skills covered in the course. A practice exercise and review questions are included at the end of each lesson to measure progress and reinforce the skills

learned. There is also a lab exercise at the end of the course to provide further practice and review to reinforce the topics learned throughout the course, and to help prepare students for the exam. PPT07M1 Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 Level 1 This course teaches students the fundamentals of this application and its usage within the Windows environment. Students learn to create, modify, and deliver electronic presentations. They learn to create slides containing text, tables, charts, diagrams, and graphics. Students practice customizing slides and finalizing presentations, and then learn to print and deliver slide shows. Students accomplish the learning objectives for each lesson through a series of hands-on tasks, for which they are given step-by-step instructions and desired result checkpoints. The tasks provide ample opportunity for students to practice, apply, and develop the Microsoft PowerPoint skills covered in the lesson. A practice exercise and review questions are included at the end of each lesson to measure progress and reinforce the skills learned. There is also a lab exercise at the end of the course to provide further practice and review, to reinforce the topics learned throughout the course, and to help prepare students for the final exam. WRD07M1 Microsoft Word 2007 Level 1 In this course, students learn to create, navigate, and organize documents and use the help functions. They learn to edit and manipulate text, view and format documents, and use Word s predefined functions. Students use the Find and Replace feature, use proofing and language tools, create, format and modify tables, work with hyperlinks and cross references, and learn how to preview and print a document. BAIP04E1 Business Administration Integrative Project This course includes exercises that encompass skills learned throughout the Business Administration program. These case studies are practical in nature and real-life scenario based, wherever possible. These case studies provide the student with a realistic perception of the types of jobs performed, and the level of complexity expected on the job. Students also gain a better understanding of how

the many functions of business administration integrate in the workplace. Learning objectives are accomplished through a combination of information review and analysis, and completion of practical tasks.
