SECTION 9: FEE PAYMENT - COST OF PROGRAMME The Hibernia College tuition fee for post-graduate programmes in initial teacher education leading to recognised teacher status is 8,950. Tuition fees may be eligible for tax relief at the marginal rate. Additional fees payable over the course of the programme: Graduation - 60 (this was the fee for 2011) A non-refundable application fee of 75 must be included with your application form. A non-refundable deposit of 10% of the tuition fee (i.e. 895) must be paid to the College on successful admission to secure your place. The remainder of course fees must be paid prior to the course commencement date. All fees are non-refundable. Cheques, drafts and money orders are payable to Hibernia College. You may also pay by credit card by completing the form below. APPLICATION INFORMATION SHEET Note 1: Applicants selected for interview will be contacted by email and/or phone during working hours. Please provide a daytime/mobile number for this purpose. Applicants will be required to confirm their availability to attend for an interview within a number of days of being notified and as such, it is important that you check your email and voice mail at regular intervals during the admissions process. The certified copy must be stamped and signed by your local Garda Station, a solicitor or peace commissioner. Bring your original transcripts plus a photocopy to any of the above. If you have a letter of recognition from the DES or the Teaching Council, you must submit a copy of this. Please also include details of any postgraduate qualifications you hold and include a copy of your transcript of results. Again, this should confirm the level of award that you received (e.g. First Class Honours, Second Class Honours Grade 1, etc.) The College regrets that it cannot return this original documentation. 11 of 13

Note 5: Entry requirements Applicants should have: A Level 8 degree, which either: o Satisfies the curricular subject criteria published by the Teaching Council and is included on the Teaching Council s List of Degree/Teacher Education Programmes Recognised for Post-Primary Registration Purposes o Has been previously assessed by the Registration Council of the Department of Education and Skills or the Teaching Council for the purpose of post primary teaching. A copy of the letter confirming recognition will be required. Hibernia College is in no way responsible for the assessment of qualifications for the purpose of registration. Whilst we will make every effort at the time of application to notify applicants if we believe there may be a concern with their qualification, the fact that they are accepted to the PDE does NOT mean their degree will be recognised for entry to the Register of Teachers by the Teaching Council. Hibernia College will not be held responsible if a graduate of the Higher Diploma is refused admission to the Register of Teachers on the basis of an erroneous declaration at the point of application and admission to the programme. In addition, applications are required to possess: Minimum grade C (ordinary level) or grade D (higher level) in Leaving Cert English Or For students who sat the GCSE and GCE A Level examinations: Minimum grade C in GCSE English Minimum grade C in GCSE English Literature The following will also satisfy the minimum requirements in English: an equivalent qualification and standard in English. Students who are unsure of the level of their primary degree should contact the conferring college or university or contact the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland at www.nqai.ie. Note that there are no concessions for mature students. All applicants must meet the same minimum entry requirements to be considered for admission to the programme and all applicants who meet those requirements will be called for interview. All students entering the programme will be subject to Garda Vetting. Students successful in securing an offer on the PDE programme will be advised that all offers are subject to a satisfactory Garda Vetting. Entry to the programme will be a two-stage process. All applicants satisfying the academic entry requirement will then be called for an interview. Interviews will be carried out by an experienced panel. Note 6: First Teaching Subjects Each student teacher will study recognised post-primary subjects that were taken as a major component of their degree programme as per Teaching Council regulations. Applicants should refer to the Teaching Council s General and special requirements for teachers of recognised subjects in mainstream post-primary education and the List of Degree/Teacher Education Programmes Recognised for Post-Primary Registration Purposes. Alternatively, those students who have a letter of recognition from the DES or the Teaching Council will study those subjects for which they have been recognised for registration purposes. 12 of 13

Note 7: Second Teaching Subject Students may be registered by the Teaching Council in their second subject provided their degree is also recognised for this subject for the purpose of registration as a post primary teacher (see Note 6). Any student who has only studied one subject at degree level or does not have a second subject recognised by the Teaching Council for the purpose of registration as a post primary teacher will be offered the opportunity to undertake a second curriculum methodology. Suitability for a second subject methodology will be assessed by the Programme Director. In some cases, substantial work experience and/or alternative study (for example at Master s level) in a second subject may enable the student to choose this subject as a second methodology. Note that evidence of experiential learning to demonstrate subject knowledge and competence may be required and that such claims will be assessed on an individual basis and that experiential evidence provided must be validated by the School Principal or Head of Department as appropriate. All students are required to study a second methodology. Students can only register with the Teaching Council as a teacher of this second subject if their degree satisfies the Teaching Council s recognition requirements for this subject. 13 of 13
