The FI- Value Added Future Internet ublic-rivate artnership (FI-) And Startup Europe 2 July 2013 Brussels - Belgium Stefano De anfilis FI-WARE Testbed Responsible http://www.fi-ware.eu http://www.fi-ppp.eu http://forge.fi-ware.eu/plugins/mediawiki/wiki/fiware/index.php/quick_fi-ware_tour

The Future Internet The FI- follows an industry-driven approach aiming to develop a Core latform that enables development of smart applications in the Future Internet Within the FI- program the platform will be experimented and validation in real application contexts by a range of actors, in particular SMEs and ublic Administrations 1

Future Internet Applications FI-, in particular FI-WARE, technologies are meant to be used to build Future Internet Applications. Internet of eople Interne t of Service s Internet of Knowledge Internet of Networks Internet of Things

What are the needs of developers? Connect apps to the physical world 4

What are the needs of developers? Manage data at large scale and transform it into knowledge 5

What are the needs of developers? Benefit from networking (open data, co-creation) 6

What are the needs of developers? Reach target users, monetize 7

What are the needs of developers? Ensuring rivacy, Security and Trust 8

What are the needs of developers? Keep investment in infrastructures lower and under control 9

FI-WARE: Targeting developers needs What Developer Community and Tools How Connect apps to the physical world Manage data at large scale and transform it into knowledge Benefit from networking (open data, co-creation) Reach target users, monetize Internet of Things (IoT) Services Enablement FI-WARE Data/Context Management Interface to Networks and Devices (I2ND) Applications/Services Ecosystem and Delivery Framework Ensuring rivacy, Security and Trust Security Keep investment in infrastructures lower and under control Cloud Hosting Simple, yet powerful and secure Lowering barriers to innovation 10

FI-WARE Generic Enablers The FI-WARE latform comprises a set of technological Generic Enablers which are considered general purpose and common to almost any usage areas Generic Enablers will provide open interfaces: To Application Developers (AIs) To support interoperability with other GEs (need for replacement) Usage area projects under the 12

Basic principles about FI-WARE GEs GE specifications are open (public and royalty-free) Any implementation of a Generic Enabler (GEI) is made up of a set of components which together supports a concrete set of Functions and AIs that are in compliance with open specifications published for that GE There might be multiple compliant implementations of a given GE The FI-WARE project will deliver a reference implementation of FI-WARE GEs: Based upon results of previous R&D projects Licensed with no costs within the FI- program Licesed under FRAND conditions elsewhere 13

FINESCE (Trial 3): FI Building the Energy Market Motivations High density of Renewable Energy Sources Generation is more and more distributed Demand is more controllable than production Marketplace for Demand Side Management Objective Scope to increase the grid stability and efficiency by using energy market mechanisms Experimentation in Terni s area (Italy) ~15 Customers ~2 Renewable Energy Sources

Basic facts about FI-WARE GEs GE specifications are open (public and royalty-free) On 31 st July 2013 more than 60 GEIs will be available (catalogue.fi-ware.eu) Terms and conditions for the usage of GEIs have been defined according to: Experimentation/testing within the FI- Open Innovation Lab External availability Most of GEIs are Open Source and all will be after TO extension All GEIs have at least a large industry as GEI owner Several strategic statements have been discussed directly to Mrs. Neelie Kreus 17

The FI-WARE Testbed The FI-WARE Testbed is the reference example of a FI-WARE Instance. It: Allows Use Case projects and third parties to run and test Future Internet Applications based on FI-WARE GEs, validating them Is aimed to be complete, in the sense that it will comprise reference implementations of all GEs defined in the FI-WARE Architecture It is operated under central control and be accessible from a dedicated website. FI-WARE partners will provide support to UC projects in deploying their conceptual prototypes on top of the FI-WARE Testbed 18

FI-WARE Open Innovation Lab (OIL) Why: Targeting business FI Apps developers needs What: Laboratory: a place where people meet and find all the technology and access to available data they need to implement their ideas Innovation: making such ideas concrete and profitable by exercising them Open: free access to third parties

FI-WARE OIL (Open Innovation Lab) The FI-WARE Open Innovation Lab is a FI-WARE Instance. It: rovides Cloud hosting capabilities so third parties can run experimental Future Internet Applications and test them Make Generic Enablers implementations available for experimentation: Global accessible instances provided as a Service Deployable as dedicated instances by application providers using Cloud blueprint management functions Each FI-WARE GEi, as well as the FI-WARE OIL itself, will have a specific support tracker Users can setup accounts, adhering to certain terms and conditions OIL Launch on 31st July 13 Developer contests during 2 nd half of 2013 (London 2-7 Sept 2013 at Campusarty) and beginning of 2014
