PROGRAMME AIM OF THE ADVANCED COURSE The Advanced Course on Spontaneous Motor Activity as a Diagnostic Tool is a tutoring course for people already engaged in Prechtl s method of qualitative assessment of General Movements (GMs). Participation is permitted by individuals who have already attended a training course and passed its final test. The course mainly consists of presentation and discussion of videorecordings of GMs made by the participants. Participants are asked to bring their own video-material (developmental trajectories of selected GMs and good quality recording are recommended;.mpeg format is requested). The course fulfils the standards specified by the GM Trust. (www.general-movements-trust.info) PROGRAMME The meeting is planned to open on Wednesday September 9th, 2015 at 8.30 a.m, and close on Saturday September 12th, 2015 at 1.00 p.m. Lessons and demo-sections will be given in the mornings, with the aim of updating the participants about recent advances on GMs assessment. Presentation and discussion of video-recordings of GMs made by the participants are scheduled in the afternoon. MAIN TOPICS OF LESSONS AND DEMO-SECTIONS - Development of GMs in the preterm and postterm period - Neurophysiological background of normal and abnormal GMs - Main abnormal features of GMs - GMs and brain lesions at MRI - Prognostic value of GMs vs MRI scan - Comparison between GM and neurological examination findings - Practical advises for GMs assessment - GMs and cerebral palsy - GMs and neonatal seizures The Advanced Course language will be English, but some lessons could be given in Italian (with consecutive translation in English). At the end of the Course the participants will be subjected to a test of their judgement. Only those individuals who have successfully passed the test will receive a certificate.
