La Flora de Villa Mi Terruño y Culebra Ensayo Fotográfico por Manuel H. Dubón

La Flora distingue a Culebra por su vegetación indomable

Bejucos Jardín & Costeros * Garden & Coastal Vines * Use of the Digital and Photographic Plant Database Material and Plant List Indexes The FMT Culebra Flora Digital Database is published by Fundación Mi Terruño Inc. (FMT) and its author for the viewer s enjoyment and to assist other scientific and research endeavors. It is an effort and pursuit to share systematic botanical knowledge of the Flora of Culebra, Puerto Rico in keeping with the foundation s scientific and public educational and conservation goals. The database will be part of the knowledge base that will be used in youth and adult nature appreciation and conservation courses that will be offered once the Villa Mi Terruño long term development project commences construction and the Youth Camp Cabins and Nature Appreciation Lodge become operational. The Foundation has been licensed and intends to publish and sale, in one or more series, the content of the VMT Flora Photo Database in the future. All Foundation revenues and receipts are and will be used for its scientific, educational conservation purposes. All the photographic and other material in the FMT Culebra Flora Digital Database is the property of its author and/or the Foundation s and copyrighted and protected by the laws of United States and Puerto Rico. The author has licensed the use of the digital and printed photographic material in this database to FMT and has entrusted us with the administrative handling of special use and publishing requests. The photographic material may be used and displayed for personal and non-commercial purposes including educational and scientific use provided that any user places the proper copyright notices on the photo or display material [i.e. Manuel H. Dubón or M.H. Dubón]. The Photographic digital or electronic material may not be published electronically or in printed material or other public or commercial websites use without first seeking and obtaining permission from the owner and the Foundation * Due to size the presentation has been divided. Debido a tamaño la presentación se ha dividido

Bejucos Jardín & Costeros * Garden & Coastal Vines * Three distinct ecological associations or flora habitats are clearly identified within the VMT site in Culebra. They are described as (i) the cliff association, (ii) the dry forest association and (iii) the grassland association. The three associations are interconnected as an ecosystem whole. The limited coastal area of Playa Cascajo, in VMT s southern boundary, provides a proper habitat for coastal vegetation of the dry forest association. Culebra, as a beautiful island, has many beach and coastal areas with deeper coastal zones that are also natural habitats for species adapted to that generally sandy ecological association. The flora database covers plants found both within VMT and in Culebra and its surrounding cays. The vines or bejucos (Sp.) database collection had to broken into three PowerPoint presentations because, as of January 2014, the organized database has 73 different vines already classified which makes the digital photograph collection too large to be included in a single presentation. Accordingly, Hillside vines with 62 specimens are presented in two separate presentations the first (I) cover plants names starting from A to I and the second (II) from J to Z. A third presentation covering more Exotic Garden Vines (5) and vines found in the Coastal Association (6). All these vines have to be able to establish themselves, grow and reproduce within a dry forest zone that has an extended dry moisture period which in Culebra can last up to 4 months during the year.
