Wendy Lawrence Faculty, Space Studies Faculty Spotlight: Wendy Lawrence A veteran of four shuttle missions, including one which featured the first in-flight repair to an orbiter in 2005, Wendy Lawrence exemplifies the caliber of faculty you will find at APU. After 1,225 hours in space, 14 years, and four shuttle flights, Lawrence retired from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in 2006. She has traveled extensively all over this world, in addition to her space travels. Professor Lawrence received her B.S. in Ocean Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and her M.S. in Ocean Engineering from MIT and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). Professor Lawrence is a retired naval aviator with 25 years of service including several deployments. A leader in her field, she brings extensive direct knowledge of aeronautics to APU and is an active mentor for her students. A faculty member with real-world expertise, Wendy Lawrence s career included a total of 51 days orbiting the Earth and docking with Mir and the International Space Station.
