PROGRAMME REGULATIONS Master of Business Programme Schedule To be read in conjunction with the Masters Generic Regulations. 1. Programme Schedule This Programme Schedule applies to the Master of Business (MBus) Level 9 Credits 240. 2. Programme Specific Admission Requirements and Special Admission 2.1 Programme specific admission requirements Before being considered for admission, an applicant must meet the following requirements: a. For an applicant with a bachelor s degree in the same or similar discipline, a minimum of one years appropriate work experience; or b. For an applicant with a bachelor s degree in an unrelated discipline or competencies equivalent to a bachelor level graduate, a minimum of three years appropriate work experience. c. Provide written evidence of outcomes in the work environment to demonstrate an ability to perform in the programme and commit to achieving its outcomes. Written evidence must include recommendations from employers or professional colleagues. d. Have the ability to contribute to group learning outside of contact time. 2.2 Special admission An applicant may be considered for special admission if he/she has: a. An undergraduate degree in an unrelated discipline, with merit achievement, and has a minimum of three years appropriate work experience that is relevant to the aims of this degree; or b. A graduate diploma qualification in the same or similar discipline, with a B grade average or better, and has a minimum of three years appropriate work experience. Master of Business Page 1

3. Selection 3.1 Selection criteria When the number of eligible applicants for admission exceeds the number of places available, the following selection criteria will be applied: Assessed level of personal motivation to complete the qualification Coherence in expression of ideas and opinions Academic aptitude Level of awareness of the discipline of business management Quality of independent references These criteria are not ranked in any order. Applicants who meet the greatest number of criteria will be the preferred applicants. 3.2 Selection process Selection will be made by the Programme Committee or by those with authority delegated by the Programme Committee Students will be selected based on the information supplied. In some cases, a telephone or face-to-face interview may be required. 4. Requirements for the Award of the Qualification 4.1 The award To be awarded the Master of Business a candidate shall have successfully completed 240 credits comprised of: The compulsory courses listed in Table 1 including either APMG9150 Thesis (90 credits) or APMG9151 Research Project (60 credits) and approved courses from the electives listed in Table 1. The expiry date for these transition arrangements is 31 December 2015. Students who have successfully completed any one of the two courses presented on each row of the table below are exempted from the need to complete the remaining course that they have not yet studied. This exemption does not absolve students from the need to achieve a total of 240 credits for the Master of Business degree or 120 credits for the Postgraduate Diploma. Students who have successfully completed any one of the two courses presented on each row of the table below are not permitted to enrol in the associated credit course shown in the third column of the table. Graduates of the Postgraduate Diploma in Business may apply to the Graduate School Academic Committee for a transfer of credit of up to a maximum of 120 credits towards the Master of Business, provided that: The period between completing the award of the postgraduate diploma and applying for admission to the master s programme does not exceed three years; Master of Business Page 4

In order to calculate the registration period required in the assessment of eligibility for the award of honours, the student s registration in the master s degree will be deemed to have commenced at the time of first enrolment in the postgraduate diploma. b. Candidates who have not completed APMG8070 Research Methods as part of the postgraduate diploma shall be required to complete this course, in addition to the thesis or research project, to be awarded the Master of Business. c. In exceptional circumstances, the Graduate School Academic Committee may approve the transfer of credit from a postgraduate diploma completed more than three years before applying for admission to the master s degree. d. For postgraduate diploma graduates who are subsequently awarded the degree, Unitec s academic record shall show only the qualification of the Master of Business, and the award of the postgraduate diploma shall be revoked. 5. Milestone Award The Postgraduate Diploma in Business is a Milestone Award from the Master of Business. 6. Commencement These regulations came into force in Semester 2, 2015. Master of Business Page 5
