Mike Mansuetti 2012 was a dynamic year. Bosch in North America achieved a significant milestone: exceeding $10 billion in sales for the first time in our history, leading all regions in annual growth and solidifying our status as the company s largest sales region outside of Germany. Our company s momentum in North America is driven by our long-standing regional presence and commitment, our broad product portfolio ranging from automotive solutions to industrial drives and controls, power tools to home appliances a keen focus on innovation and, certainly, the talent and dedication of our associates. In 2012, the sector generated 65 percent of Bosch sales in the region. Its main business areas include: fuel-injection systems for internal combustion engines, peripheral devices for powertrain control, alternative drive concepts, active and passive vehicle safety systems, driver-assistance and other guidance functions, in-vehicle information and communication systems, and a range of after-sales, engineering support and service concepts for the automotive aftermarket. Bosch technologies help to increase fuel efficiency, reduce emissions and improve safety, comfort and convenience for drivers and passengers. 13 Bosch in North America 14 Bosch Industrial Technology In 2012, Industrial Technology, including the Drive and Control Technology, Packaging Technology and Solar Energy divisions, accounted for 16 percent of Bosch sales in North America. Beginning in January 2013, the Industrial Technology sector is comprised of two divisions: Drive and Control Technology or Bosch Rexroth, and Packaging Technology. Drive and Control Technology is a globally operating supplier for the mechanical engineering sector, with hydraulic components for mobile machinery, drive and control solutions for industrial applications, and components and systems for wind turbines. Packaging Technology, provides integrated filling, packaging and processing solutions for the pharmaceuticals, food, health and hygiene and confectionery industries. Robert Bosch Tool Corporation is a market leader in the design, manufacture and sale of power tools, rotary and oscillating tools, accessories, laser and optical leveling and range finding tools, as well as garden and watering equipment. Since the start of 2013, the Consumer Goods sector is comprised of Power Tools and Bosch s 50 percent share in BSH, which manufactures dishwashers, laundry, refrigeration and cooking appliances. 17 Bosch in North America 18 Bosch Energy and Building Technology Bosch Brands Bosch sells products and services under many renowned brands in North America, including: In January 2013, Bosch introduced its fourth business sector: Energy and Building Technology, which includes Bosch Thermotechnology, a manufacturer of resource-conserving heating, cooling and hot-water solutions; Security Systems, a provider of communication systems, security and life safety solutions for use by major schools and universities, government agencies, correctional facilities, retail stores, sports and entertainment facilities, casinos, and many other commercial and industrial environments; and Solar Energy, a provider of photovoltaics solutions.

19 Bosch in North America 20 Healthcare Software Innovations When technology in the Internet of Things and Services suddenly understands itself much better, then an intelligent software solution from Bosch is behind it. With six years of experience, Robert Bosch Healthcare Systems is the market leader in evidence-based telehealth solutions that monitor patients' health status in their homes. More than 100 health management programs in more than 30 medical conditions support vital sign and symptom assessment. The programs also support improving disease knowledge and selfmanagement for patients living with chronic illness or recently discharged from the hospital. Data provided by patients is assessed and then transmitted daily to care providers for evaluation and timely interventions, thus improving clinical outcomes while lowering the overall cost of care. More than 50,000 patients benefit from Bosch s in-home telehealth system on a daily basis. Bosch Software Innovations designs, develops and operates innovative software and system solutions that help Bosch customers around the world both in the traditional enterprise environment and in the Internet of Things and Services. It places particular focus in this field on the topics of mobility, energy and building, manufacturing and financial services. February 2012 Bosch Emission Systems is established in Kentwood, Mich., to supply various clean diesel applications in North America. April 2012 The Power Tools SKIL brand celebrates the 75th anniversary of SKILSAW, The Saw That Built America. May 2012 Security Systems launches mobile apps that help users remotely access and manage security cameras and intrusion systems. March 2012 Bosch Household Appliances receives the 2012 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award in recognition of its continued leadership in protecting our environment through energy efficiency. September 2012 The U.S. Department of Energy awards Bosch with a $2.7 million Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Vehicle Technology grant to lead a consortium focused on improving conventional engine efficiency, reducing fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. November 2012 Robert Bosch Healthcare Systems, Inc. adds MedMinder medication-monitoring systems to its telehealth solutions to improve quality outcomes. December 2012 The Automotive Aftermarket division acquires Service Solutions business, which employs nearly 2,700 associates in 17 countries, from SPX Corporation. November 2012 August 2012 The State of Wisconsin awards Bosch Packaging Technology with a Green Tier 2 environmental award for its reduced CO 2 emissions and setting up a recycling waste stream for 99 percent of its manufacturing processes. Akustica launches four new high-definition MEMS microphones for smartphones, tablets and other consumer electronics. December 2012 Robert Bosch Tool Corporation and the Bosch Community Fund fill 24 vans with 920 heavy-duty tools to assist the residents of the U.S. East Coast in their rebuilding efforts after Superstorm Sandy devastated the area.

25 Bosch in North America 26 Management Report For Bosch in North America, 2012 was a year of growth. While the slowdown in the global economy contributed to lower sales growth for the Group worldwide, a comparatively stable economic climate in North America helped the company achieve its highest level of sales in the region and largest level of investment in six years. Continued cost control measures and focus on its broad range of innovative and beneficial solutions will propel further growth in 2013. Business Situation Bosch s global sales in fiscal year 2012 increased 1.9 percent to $67.5 billion. In North America, where the economy grew by 2.3 percent last year, Bosch regional sales grew 8.1 percent to $10.6 billion, representing 16 percent of global sales. The company enhanced its regional presence particularly in the automotive and industrial sectors, through products that contribute toward improved energy efficiency, safety and comfort. Bosch s worldwide workforce grew 1 percent in 2012 to 305,900, and in North America, headcount increased 9 percent to nearly 24,600 associates across more than 100 locations. There are 8,800 associates in Mexico. The country generated sales of nearly $1 billion in 2012, a Fountain Inn, S.C., facility Direct Injection Automotive Aftermarket Service Solutions robust increase of 15 percent. Approximately $750 million in sales was generated by 600 associates in Canada in 2012, an increase of 1 percent. In 2012, Bosch globally invested some $10 billion through research and development and capital expenditure. North American investments in 2012 totaled $425 million, an increase of 30 percent, including Bosch Rexroth s $80 million expansion of its hydraulics campus in Fountain Inn, S.C., acquisition of the Service Solutions business of SPX Corporation, and expanded packaging technology activities through the acquisition of the inspection technology specialist Eisai Machinery Co. and intent to acquire a minority share of Industrial Pharmaceutical Resources Inc., a provider of control, automation, inspection and analysis products and services. Efficiency and comfort fuel Automotive Technology As the world s largest automotive supplier, Bosch North America s Automotive Technology sector achieved sales of $6.9 billion in 2012, an increase of 9.5 percent. As direct injection systems increase penetration in the market, Bosch technology was featured on nine of Ward s 10 Best Engines of 2012, and its direct injection technology, which provides increased

27 Bosch in North America 28 Management Report fuel efficiency and lower emissions, appears on five of the winning engines. In 2012, Bosch established Bosch Emission Systems in Kentwood, Mich., which will provide clean diesel emission systems for an increasing number of North American applications. The establishment of Robert Bosch Battery Systems, which integrates the activities of Cobasys LLC in the U.S., will further intensify the company s electromobility activities. Recognizing the emerging and inextricable links among safety, convenience and connectivity, Bosch's Chassis Systems Control and Automotive Electronics teams are leveraging current technologies to develop driver-assistance features and automated driving. Driver information systems by Bosch, which combine entertainment, navigation, communication and operating functions, further enable driving convenience. Industrial Technology spurs customer convenience and output 2012 sales in the Industrial Technology sector in North America grew by 13 percent to $1.7 billion, through robust customer solutions. Using Bosch Rexroth s GoTo Focused Delivery program, customers can obtain product information and receive fast delivery of Rexroth s range of most widely used products. In 2012, Bosch Rexroth completed hydraulic system solutions for the La Yesca Dam 750 megawatt Driver-assistance technology GoTo Focused Delivery Pack 401 horizontal flow wrapper hydroelectric power station in Mexico s federal state of Nayarit, delivering critical components that guarantee proper functioning and facility safety. By using Bosch Packaging Technology's Pack 401 horizontal flow wrapper, Endangered Species Chocolate expects a more than 230 percent boost in output, enabling the customer to meet increasing demand for its premium, thoughtfully sourced chocolate bars. Sustainability and user experience in Consumer Goods and Building Technology The Consumer Goods and Building Technology sector in North America maintained its prior year level of sales at $2 billion in 2012. With the establishment of Bosch PRO Centers in 156 Home Depot stores in 2012, trained Bosch Power Tools specialists assist customers with selection and use of Bosch tools and accessories. Bosch completed its second-largest Praesideo system installation at the Vancouver International Airport, covering three terminals with 250 distinct paging zones. The Bosch Experience Center at Serenbe, a 1000-acre sustainable community development south of Atlanta, showcases the company s full line of sustainable home solutions, including new Greentherm C 950 ES and C 1050 ES tankless water heaters. The third largest appliance manufacturer in the world, Bosch Siemens

29 Bosch in North America 30 Management Report Home Appliances received its second consecutive Energy Star Sustained Excellence Award in 2012 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, recognizing the company s continued leadership in protecting the environment through energy efficiency. Internet as a driver of new products and services According to research firm IDC, more people in the U.S. will access the Internet using mobile devices than with PCs and other wired devices by 2015. As the world s leading supplier of micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) for consumer electronics, Bosch subsidiary Akustica introduced four new MEMS microphones that deliver high-definition voice quality, improving the performance of voiceenabled applications in mobile devices. Robert Bosch Healthcare Systems and GreatCall, Inc. announced a partnership to develop and market an innovative line of mobile telehealth and m-health solutions. In January 2013, Bosch formed a fourth business sector, Energy and Building Technology, bringing together the relevant Bosch business areas, which generated sales of $6.4 billion in 2012. Bosch expects global GDP to grow 2.7 percent in 2013, and global sales growth of 2 to 4 percent. With U.S. GDP growth of 2 percent expected, coupled with a full-year effect on sales of acquired business, Bosch expects to yield close to double-digit, year-over-year growth in North America. In addition to robust development opportunities in the U.S. market, Mexico plays a vital part of the company s regional manufacturing strategy and Canada provides a stable economic environment and further opportunities in automotive and sustainable energy. Longer term, Bosch in North and South America is targeted to account for more than 20 percent of the Group s worldwide sales.

31 Bosch in North America 32 Research and Development Innovation is a part of Bosch s DNA. Worldwide in 2012, the company invested more than $6 billion in R&D, with nearly half of that expenditure focused on technologies that conserve resources and protect the environment. In 2012, Bosch globally applied for 4,800 patents or 19 patents per working day. Through the Research and Technology Center North America, Bosch advances topics including user interaction, autonomous systems, data mining, wireless connectivity, integrated circuit design, MEMS, Internet of Things and Services, energy storage and battery management systems. There are more than 2,600 Bosch associates working in R&D in the Americas. In 2012, the Bosch Energy Research Network (BERN) awarded seven, two-year research grants totaling nearly $1 million for projects focusing on energy conversion, energy storage and energy usage efficiency. In addition, Bosch offered more than 20 internship positions throughout North America. Through BERN, Bosch will invest approximately $10 million over eight years, working with leading U.S. universities to accelerate research in the fields of the environment, energy and mobility. Bosch Corporate Research, in collaboration with the Gasoline Systems and Automotive Electronics divisions and university and industrial partners, was awarded seven U.S. Department of Energy grants in 2012, totaling more than $11 million on topics including combustion controls, battery management systems, thermoelectric and solar energy. A $3 million, three-year grant from the Department of Defense was awarded to Bosch for its Direct Current (DC) Microgrid Building Energy Management Platform designed to improve energy efficiency, energy security and operating costs at the U.S. Army s Fort Bragg in North Carolina.

33 Bosch in North America 34 Society Bosch has been dedicated to sustainability and corporate citizenship for more than 125 years. This commitment is reflected not only through its innovative products and services but also in its philanthropic approach. The Bosch Community Fund (BCF), a U.S.-based foundation established in September 2011, awards more than $3 million annually to various 501(c)(3) organizations and educational institutions. It focuses primarily on the enrichment of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education and the advancement of environmental sustainability initiatives. The BCF awarded a grant to the Cranbrook Institute of Science in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., to establish the Bosch Young Scientists program. The program will augment the science education of more than 1,800 Detroit Public Schools students and provide them access to the Institute collections, personal contact with Institute scientists and educators, and core science education. After Superstorm Sandy devastated parts of the U.S. East Coast, the BCF provided $100,000 grants to Habitat for Humanity and the United Way for Greater Lehigh Valley. Twenty-four vans filled with 920 heavy-duty Bosch, SKIL, Dremel and RotoZip tools donated by the Power Tools division were provided to affected residents to assist with rebuilding efforts. Other Bosch initiatives to support STEM education included sponsoring a team of 60 students at Michigan s FIRST Robotics State Championship; providing grants to high schools in Anderson, S.C., and Broadview, Ill., via the Bosch Energy, Science and Technology (BEST) program; and continuing engagement in the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) A World in Motion program.
