Smoking in Pregnancy Smoking is the single most modifiable risk factor for adverse outcomes in pregnancy. It is estimated to contribute to 40% of all infant deaths. Evidence has demonstrated that babies born to women who smoke during pregnancy are around 40% more likely to die within the first four weeks of life than babies born to non smokers. Pregnant women CAN use nicotine products ALL pregnant women who smoke must be referred to the specialist team.

How to refer Complete inter-team referral form. Fax to the Stop Smoking Service. We will contact the client within 48 working hours. We will make them an appointment at a time and location most convenient to them. You will receive a letter to inform you of their outcome.

Who to refer Pregnant women Under 16 s People wanting Zyban or Champix Clients who have tried to quit unsuccessfully more than 3 times People with mental health issues Drug/ Alcohol users Cigar/pipe smokers Anybody who you are struggling with

Messages to take home Over 100,000 people die from smoking related illness in the UK every year. Providing a stop smoking service in your pharmacy can help save the lives of your customers. If you feel you do not have the time or capacity to provide a stop smoking service then please take 30 seconds to REFER.
