Water-Bee Smart Irrigation System DA Efficient water management is a global environmental need. ü 40% of the worlds food is produced by irrigated agriculture ü IrrigaIon uses 70% of all fresh water, 60% of this is wasted. ü 255 million hectares are irrigated worldwide (60 million in Europe) ü In Italy and Spain, 50% of agricultural producion is irrigated, accouning for 60% of its value ü Smart IrrigaIon is esimated to be a 1.7billion market by 2020. Ø Efficient irrigaion scheduling requires that soil water potenials within the root zone are maintained within certain boundaries. Ø Precise control of soil water can also be used to manipulate physiological responses of crops to increase water use efficiency, or to control the balance between reproducive and vegetaive growth, or to improve crop quality. Ø The majority of farmers use their own judgment to decide when to irrigate and how much, but ofen tend to be risk- averse and wasteful of water. 4
Overview of WaterBee Smart Irrigation System A complete, resilient, cost- effec;ve state- of- the- art Smart Irriga;on and Water Management system Web driven wireless sensor networked irrigaion system Centrally monitored through the WaterBee Server Soil- moisture Model to opimise water use for each Grower. Services provided through Local Business Partners, who work closely with their Growers. 5
