A World Leader in Hospitality Management Education SEG ENGLISH FOUNDATION PROGRAMME

OVERVIEW The English Foundation Programme offered by the Swiss Education Group, is an ideal way for students to strengthen their English language skills before commencing their academic studies at any of the Swiss Education Group schools. The programme helps students to acquire the competence, confidence and skills necessary to enter the hospitality programmes of the Swiss Education Group schools. It consists of a number of levels of intensive non-credit courses, which are delivered to small groups of students. The programme offers students a minimum of 20 hours of English instruction per week and covers the following subject areas: English for Academic Purposes Structured Writing & Grammar Learning Strategies & Study Techniques Reading & Text Analysis Critical Thinking & Analysis Communication Skills General Hospitality Knowledge Students entering the programme are tested upon arrival using the Oxford Online Placement Test (OOPT) in order to place sudents in the appropriate class level.

SWISS EDUCATION GROUP TESTING GUIDELINES The Oxford Online Placement Test is the standard English language testing system used by the Swiss Education Group, and is used to test all students who do not provide a valid English test result of the equivalent standard (TOEFL or IELTS). Students who score 50 points and above on the OOPT are eligible to enter any of the Swiss Education Group undergraduate or postgraduate programmes. 60+ points (or equivalent) are required for direct entry to all master s programmes. Once the test results are received, the local school representative will advise the student whether they will need to enrol in the English Foundation Programme prior to entry into an Undergraduate, Postgraduate or Master s programme. Students who have an OOPT score between 40 to 50 points are eligible to enter the English Foundation Programme at the appropriate level. PROGRAMME STRUCTURE The programme can be taken prior to commencing any hospitality studies at any Swiss Education Group school. The length of the programme for each participant depends on his or her personal English level and motivation. Duration The English Foundation Programme runs throughout the year in 4-week blocks. Students may join at the beginning of any 4-week block, for a minimum of 4 weeks and a maximum of 20 weeks. Students must achieve the required OOPT score to progress to their hospitality programme. If a student has not achieved the required OOPT score but has completed the maximum 20 weeks of study, it is not possible to remain in the English Foundation Programme. Location The English Foundation Programme is held at Hotel Institute Montreux. Students from all Swiss Education Group schools may participate in the programme. Uniform All students must bring their own business suit to wear Monday to Friday from 7am until 7.30pm. Business suits must be dark in colour. Fee CHF 850.- per week (minimum of 4 weeks). The weekly fee includes the following: Teaching Materials All required teaching materials are included in the fees. Accommodation Accommodation is provided in comfortable double standard rooms. Meals All meals are included in the indicated fee. Transportation Upon completion of the programme, the Swiss Education Group will provide transportation to the student s chosen school to start their hospitality studies (only if numbers permit). When a student achieves the required OOPT score for entry to their chosen hospitality studies and wishes to stay on campus until the programme s start date, they can do so for an additional fee.
