NH Chapter December Monthly Meeting Installs 2014 Officers and Directors On Thursday, December 5, 2013, the NH Chapter met at The Bedford Village Inn in Bedford, NH to share plans for 2014 and to install the 2014 NH Chapter Officers and Directors. Outgoing President, Francine Driscoll, opened the meeting by sharing her thoughts with the sixteen attendees about the past eighteen months. She expressed thanks to all, especially her Board, for their incredible efforts as the Chapter successfully executed what turned out to be daunting plans emanating from the Society-Institutes affiliation including Chapter re-incorporation, closer National-Chapter ties and new Chapter By-Laws. President Driscoll also encouraged new members to follow her path by seeking opportunities to move the Chapter forward, as officers or on committees. She described the opportunity to grow personally and professionally as second to none and the experience as wonderful. Bedford Village Inn Bedford, NH Before moving to the officer installment portion of the meeting, Outgoing President Driscoll presented gifts to Incoming President Kennard as well as her team of Officers and Directors, commenting on the contributions of each during her tenure as President Outgoing President Driscoll then introduced the presiding officer for the installation of the 2014 NH Chapter Officers and Directors, Cindy Baroway, CPCU, M.Ed., AIC, 2014 President of the CPCU Society and Lecturer/Facilitator at the University of Colorado in Denver. After responding to questions covering a broad range of subjects including CE requirements in the future, agent/broker newsletter, Society website and social media plans, expanded emphasis on candidates and speedy matriculation information to Chapters, President Baroway administered the CPCU oath to the 2

Second 2013 NH Chapter Volunteer Day at NH Food Bank For the 3rd December in a row and the 5th time in the last eighteen months, members of the NH CPCU Chapter found time during their busy Holiday schedule to sort and pack food for the NH Food Bank. On Wednesday, December 11, 2013, President Driscoll and four (4) Chapter members spent the morning at the Food Bank s Manchester warehouse facility preparing and packing 1,404 Mac and Cheese meals. Before retiring to the warehouse to begin packing food, the Chapter members presented Nancy Mellitt, NH Food Bank Director of Development, a check for $450 representing collections at earlier CPCU events. According to Nancy, this check will pay for supplies representing 950 meals. Here are some pertinent facts about NH in 2013. 1 in 9 individuals in the state are food insecure 40,400 children under the age of 18 are food insecure in the state 1 in 5 children in the Manchester area are food insecure The NH Food Bank works with nearly 400 partner NH agencies (L to R) Ryan Morin, Brenda Buck, Shaun Ralston, Richard Coskren, Francine Driscoll and Nancy Mellitt NH Chapter Holds January Monthly Meeting in Keene, NH On January 22, 2014, twenty (20) Chapter members gathered at the National Grange Mutual Insurance Company in Keene, NH to hear a riveting presentation by Brenda Buck, CPCU, CIC, CPIW, on the in s and out s of the Workers Compensation Experience Mod. Before Brenda s presentation, newly installed NH Chapter President, Linda Kennard, introduced the Chapter officers present, welcomed the members and introduced the guest presenter, former NH Chapter President and current chapter member, Brenda Buck. As a Service Account Executive at USI Insurance Services, LLC and before that Senior Account Coordinator at The Insurance Exchange, Commercial Lines and Agency Operations Manager at Satter-Purnell Associates and Commercial Lines Underwriter at NH Insurance, Brenda has extensive experience with how experience mods are constructed and what agents can and should do to educate their clients on improving their mod. Brenda first explained how the premium is developed from a combination of business classification, standard and special exemptions, rates per $100 of payroll, employee liability, and the experience mod (a rolling 3 year history compared to others), which if less than 1 reduces the premium and if more than 1, increases the premium. 4

She also explained the timing of the calculation (6 months ahead of the anniversary rat ing date) and promulgation of the rate (3 months prior). She reviewed the Experience Mod Worksheet in detail for the audience, precisely pointing out how the mod is developed. Of most interest to the audience was her description of the ten (10) reasons a mod may go up, her discussion of ways to control costs (early supervisor involvement after accidents and early return to work programs) and the link between cost control and protecting the health and welfare of employees by preventing accidents. Upon completion of her presentation, Brenda responded to audience questions before being roundly applauded for the quality of her presentation. Brenda M. Buck, CPCU Service Account Executive-Commercial Insurance USI Insurance Services, LLC During the meeting, President Kennard passed the NH Food Bank Collection Box around and before closing the meeting, she announced that $56.00 had been collected. ************************************************************************************* Upcoming Chapter Events Event Date Time Location NH Chapter 8 th Annual Ski Day Feb 10 8:30A - 4:30P Loon Mountain 60 Loon Mountain Road Lincoln, NH 03251 NH Chapter Monthly Meeting Guest Speaker: David Hershey, CPCU, CRM, CRIS, AMIM, ARM, MLIS Topic: The RIMS Organization March 7 12:00-1:30P Chen Yang Li Restaurant 124 So.
