Generating growth Transport is the lifeblood of the EU economy

There are over 336 000 road passenger transport companies and around 590 000 road freight transport companies enabling people to travel and exchange goods in the EU Source: EU Transport in Figures 2014, Eurostat

Creating jobs Transport provides work for millions of Europeans

Innovating to compete Europe is a leader in transport innovation

How inventive are we? 25 768 transport-related patents have been registered in the EU between 1990 and 2011, this is 36.8 % of the transport related patents worldwide. European transport companies* are leading innovators! Connecting people Transport improves the quality of life for all Europeans

In 2012, private households in the EU-28 spent 967 bn in transport related activities, divided as following: 54.5 % USE OF VEHICLES 967 bn 25.8 % BUY VEHICLES 19.6 % TICKETS On average this is 13 % of a household income, about the same as we spend on food and non-alcoholic drinks but far more than we set aside for education (1 %). The cost of road congestion in Europe is estimated to over 110 bn a year, equivalent to 1 % of EU GDP, or around 220 for each EU citizen! 1% of EU GDP 110 bn a year 220/year Source: Joint Research Centre report, measuring road congestion, 2012

For every person killed on the roads, another estimated 10-12 suffer serious injuries.
