System Requirements These hardware requirements apply to version 5.4 of the Stonesoft Security Engine software in all roles (Firewall/VPN, IPS/IDS, and Layer 2 Firewall). Stonesoft Appliances At the time of release, this version of the Stonesoft Security Engine software is supported on the following Stonesoft appliances: FW-310 IPS-6000 FW-315 IPS-6100 FW-1030 IPS-6105 FW-1060 Stonesoft 1301 FW-1200e Stonesoft 1302 FW-5000 Stonesoft 3201 FW-5000L Stonesoft 3205 FW-5100 Stonesoft 3206 FW-5105 Stonesoft 5201 IPS-1030 Stonesoft 5205 IPS-1060 Stonesoft 5206 IPS-1205 Some features of this release are not available for all appliance models. See http://www.stonesoft.com/en/support/product_life-cycle/ and https://my.stonesoft.com/support/document.do?product=stonegate&docid=3927 for up-to-date appliance-specific software compatibility information. NOTE IPS-6105 with version 5.2 or later supports only 64-bit software versions. NOTE - Upgrading between 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (x86-64) architecture software versions is not supported. Stonesoft appliances support only the software architecture version (32- bit or 64-bit) that they are pre-installed with. Changing the architecture for third-party hardware using software licenses require full re-installation using a CD-ROM. 3 Stonesoft Security Engine Hardware Requirements for Version 5.4

Certified Intel Platforms Stonesoft has certified specific Intel-based platforms for the Stonesoft Security Engine. The list of certified platforms can be found at http://www.stonesoft.com/en/products/fw/software_solutions/. We strongly recommend using certified hardware or a preinstalled Stonesoft appliance as the hardware solution for new Stonesoft Security Engine installations. If it is not possible to use a certified platform, the Stonesoft Security Engine can also run on standard Intel-based hardware that fulfills the Stonesoft Security Engine hardware requirements. Basic Hardware Requirements Intel Pentium 4 /Xeon processor -based hardware 16 GB IDE hard disk or SSD disk (IDE RAID controllers are not supported) and CD-ROM drive 1 GB RAM minimum (2 GB required if inspection-based features are used) for 32-bit (i386) installation 8 GB RAM minimum for 64-bit (x86-64) installation One or more certified network interfaces for the Firewall/VPN role (see Network Interface Cards on page 5) 2 or more certified network interfaces for IPS with IDS configuration 3 or more certified network interfaces for Inline IPS or Layer 2 Firewall VGA-compatible display and keyboard Requirements for Virtual Node VMware ESX Server versions 4.0 or 4.1, or ESXi versions 4.0, 4.1, or 5 8 GB virtual disk 1 GB RAM minimum (2 GB required if inspection-based features are used) A minimum of one virtual network interface for the Firewall/VPN role, three for IPS or Layer 2 Firewall roles The following limitations apply when Stonesoft Security Engine is run as a virtual node in the Firewall/VPN role: Only Packet Dispatching CVI mode is supported. Only Standby clustering mode is supported. Heartbeat requires a dedicated non-vlan-tagged interface. The following limitations apply when Stonesoft Security Engine is run as a virtual node in the IPS or Layer 2 Firewall role: Clustering is not supported. 4 Stonesoft Security Engine Hardware Requirements for Version 5.4

Recommended NIC driver to use in virtual appliances is vmxnet3. Example Hardware Configuration for 2 Gbps Security Engine Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 2 Cores per CPU Intel Xeon E3-12xx-Family Processor, (if inspection-based features are used) 2 GB memory (8 GB required if inspection-based features are used) 2 or more certified network interfaces 16 GB IDE hard disk or SSD disk (IDE RAID controllers are not supported) CD-ROM drive, VGA-compatible display and keyboard 32-bit Security Engine software installation or 64-bit Security Engine software installation (if inspection-based features are used) Example Hardware Configuration for 10 Gbps Security Engine Two Intel Xeon 5500-Family Processor, 4 Cores per CPU Two Intel Xeon E5-26xx -Family Processor, 8 Cores per CPU (if inspection-based features are used) 8 GB memory (32 GB if inspection-based features are used) 2 or more certified network interfaces 32 GB IDE hard disk or SSD disk (IDE RAID controllers are not supported) CD-ROM drive, VGA-compatible display and keyboard 64-bit Security Engine software installation Licensing requirements Use of the 64-bit software version requires a license that supports the use of 64-bit software. As of version 5.4, the following types of licenses support 64-bit engine software: Software licenses for 10 Gbps or higher throughput Firewall/VPN or IPS CPU core-based Security Engine software licenses CPU core-based virtual Security Engine software licenses Network Interface Cards Stonesoft Security Engines support Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces on the Intel platform. We strongly recommend using network interface cards that Stonesoft has certified. The list of certified normal network interface cards can be found at https://my.stonesoft.com/support/document.do?product=stonegate&docid=7849. 5 Stonesoft Security Engine Hardware Requirements for Version 5.4

Hardware driver versions NIC drivers Network interface card (NIC) drivers and versions included in the kernel of Stonesoft Security Engine version 5.4.1 are listed in the table below.
