4 Introduction Dictating and transcribing patient reports are important tasks in healthcare. Dragon Medical 360 Network Edition streamlines this process, converting a physician's speech into text automatically. The Dragon software is integrated with many common clinical applications, allowing dictation and transcription to occur seamlessly in the context of workflows that are already well-known to the physicians. Virtual desktops allow physicians to access applications securely, any time, any place. Citrix is a leader in virtual desktop software, and XenDesktop is a comprehensive desktop virtualization platform. To respond to the demand for virtualization in a clinical context, Nuance conducted a series of tests to ensure that Dragon Medical 360 Network Edition running on Xen- Desktop provides the same dictation experience that end users are familiar with in a local desktop environment. This document describes the functionality, hardware and software that was tested. Version two of this document will provide the results of load testing and information about latency, and how to set up your hardware and software for the recommended configurations. Note: While Nuance strives to provide guidance toward a smooth implementation of Dragon Medical, due to the variability in Virtual Desktop environments, the customer is ultimately responsible for the configuration, validation, and ongoing maintenance of their virtual desktop environments to provide a suitable platform for reliable operation of Dragon Medical. Tested Functionality The tests verified that Dragon has the following functionality when configured to run on XenDesktop: Functionality Created and trained a user profile using the General Medical vocabulary. Opened and closed a user profile with and without a persistent user drive, with the same performance as a non-xendesktop configuration. Dictated a paragraph into Microsoft Word Pad. Transcribed a recorded wave (.wav) file. Moved users from one client device to another, including moving the microphone, to find out whether the users can reconnect and continue dictating with Dragon. 5 Functionality Verified that the buttons on the PowerMic II and the Philips SpeechMike perform as they do in a non-xendesktop configuration.
