Bachelor in Education Brief Description about the Programme B. Ed. Programme consists of theory courses which include core courses, foundation courses and optional courses, practice teaching, and practical work spread over two semesters Name of the Faculty Under Graduate Degree Regular He/ She must be a graduate from the M. S. University of Baroda or from any other University recognized as equivalent for the purpose. He/ She must have taken the Bachelor s Degree as a regular student in the 10 + 2 + 3 or 11 + 4 pattern. He/ She must have taken the Bachelor s Degree at least with 50 percent marks in the aggregate or equivalent grade. If he/she is a graduate with less than 50 percent marks or with lower grade, he/she must have a master s degree in the relevant subject. If a candidate is a graduate, he/she shall have graduated with one of the secondary school subjects as a major subject and if he/she has a master s degree, he/she shall have offered one of the higher secondary school subjects as a major subject. If a student has offered subjects such as Psychology, Commerce (B.Com.) at graduation level and Philosophy, Sociology, Political Science, Public Administration, Archaeology, Museology, Home Science, Persian, Urdu etc., at graduation as well as post-graduation levels, he/she is not considered to be eligible for admission to the B.Ed. Programme. He/she must have offered English as one of the subjects at the higher Secondary/College or University level. A candidate admitted to the B. Ed. M. Psy. in Clinical Psychology Brief Description about the Programme Clinical psychology as one of the core disciplines in the area of mental health/illness has grown significantly in the last two decades. Consequently, the number of clinical psychologists available in service sectors has increased significantly. Though there is an upward trend, number of professionals currently available at various levels is no match to the number specified to face the ever growing demands in the field. Clinical Psychologists play an important role for optimizing health care delivery system and there is an urgent need to train more number of professional clinical psychologists. The following program provides a cohesive and meaningful training so that the trainees develop to their fullest potential and shall be able to discharge their responsibilities competently as clinicians, teachers/ trainers, researchers and administrators in the field of mental health. The aim of this course is to prepare the trainee to function as a qualified professional in the areas of mental and physical health by offering Diagnostic, Therapeutic, Rehabilitative, Administrative services, and to work towards promoting the well-being and quality-of-life of individuals. The course is developed as a rigorous two-year program with extensive theoretical inputs and widespread clinical experience to acquire the necessary skills in the area of Clinical Psychology. On completion of the course, the trainee is expected to perform the following functions: 1. Diagnose mental health problems. 2. Conceptualize specific adult and child mental health problems within a psychological framework, giving due consideration to psychosocial/ contextual factors, and carry out relevant treatment/management. 3. Apply psychological principles and techniques in rehabilitating persons with mental health problems and disabilities. 4. Work with the psychosocial dimensions of

physical diseases, formulate and undertake focused/targeted psychosocial interventions. 5. Work with community to promote health, quality-of-life and psychological well-being. 6. Undertake research in the areas of clinical psychology such as, mental health/ illness, physical health/ diseases and relevant societal issues viz. misconception, stigma, discrimination, social tension, gender construction, life style etc. 7. Undertake responsibilities connected with teaching and training in core and allied areas of Clinical Psychology. 8. Undertake administrative and supervisory/ decision-making responsibilities in mental health area. 9. PG Diploma in Clinical and Applied Hypnosis Brief Description about the Programme Department of Psychology at M.S. University of Baroda has been running a Diploma Course in Clinical and Applied Hypnosis since 2001-2002. The course has been developed based on the years of ongoing research, clinical experience and the training of many successful faculty members in clinical hypnosis. The department promotes the course as complementary as well as alternative therapy to the professionals. So far several practicing doctors and psychologists have undertaken the course and have reported its effectiveness in their routine treatments and therapies. The terms clinical hypnosis and clinical hypnotherapy refers to both the diagnosis of problems and the application of hypnotherapeutic approaches to treat client/patients within a clinical and structured framework.
