Spencer St Bourke St Melbourne CBD Princes Hwy 45 William Street Southern Cross Station Collins St You are our greatest asset We pride ourselves on the high quality of our graduates and we will assist you in reaching the height of your potential during your time with us. Our class sizes are small which means you benefit from ongoing, direct access to your teachers and a personalised approach to your training which helps you to stay focused on your study at the highest possible standard. Our campuses are wellequipped and centrally located Our Sydney campus is situated in Surry Hills and our Melbourne campus is right in the CBD. They are centrally located close to major bus, train and tram routes. Both campus locations are in bustling, vibrant inner city precincts. They are ideal places to study and hang out with your colleagues and meet other students over lunch or at the end of the day in the many cafés and friendly pubs in the area. It s a great atmosphere in a convenient location. Flinders Ln Flinders St Flinders Street Station We believe in caring for our students and that means ensuring that you work in a safe, comfortable environment. Our campuses are light and airy with city views. Both are inspiring, creative work spaces with fully equipped kitchens and student lounge areas.

What will you study? Our Diploma of Events offers far more than hours in the lecture room and time spent in the library. Our aim is to engage you from day one in the work life of the event management professional. Yes, we do lectures and tutorials, lots of research and case study analysis, group projects, report writing, essays, special projects, hypothetical exercises and creative thinking. But we also see the city as an extension of the classroom and a proportion of every week of your course will be spent observing events and learning from what you see and hear. It s called praxis : theory combined with practice. We love it. Some of the key areas of study: Creative event design Event staging and infrastructure Event budget management Event project management Event industry knowledge Developing and pitching event concepts and bids Venues and outdoor event sites Catering for events Entertainment for events Client relations Technical production for events Legal and regulatory compliance Event styling Event team management Crowd management Risk management for events Event operations Occupational health and safety Event management information and communications systems Computer skills for event management The major project Your study culminates in the preparation of a major project in which you develop an event concept and design and document a plan for its delivery. The hypothetical event project will use real world venues, suppliers and calendar dates. It s a bit like a flight simulator for events. You walk away with a bound copy of your event manual. A passport to job interviews. Nationally accredited courses The Diploma of Events (SIT50212) is a nationally accredited course approved under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) under the auspices of the Australian Quality Skills Authority (ASQA). Our Diploma of Events qualification can be used to facilitate entry to higher education courses. For example, we have a formal articulation agreement with Flinders University that gives a full year s credit towards their Bachelor of International Tourism.

Today s event professional needs to be highly efficient in the use of information and communication systems. Our college offers cutting edge technology complete with the latest software, high speed internet and wireless network, on site support and training. Our teaching method is engaging, interactive and fun Our courses are based on the simulated workplace. Your first day with the College of Event Management is a little bit like your first day at work. You have your own computer and workspace that you can personalise as you settle in. Your day begins with a team meeting in which we review the tasks for the day, assign roles and set priorities, just like a real event management company. Our blended delivery approach to learning means you do some of your work face-to-face with your teachers and other students and some of it through an online learning portal. You conduct research, complete assessments and delve into the vast world of events online. You can also check your timetable and progress reports and conduct collaborative group work online. We get you to your destination fast Our Diploma of Events is achieved through accelerated learning delivery which means you graduate in either six months (full-time) or twelve months (part-time). Full-time program You study each day from 9.00am until 5.00pm. Most of your work lectures, field trips, group work, private study and assessment is done during those hours so that you can enjoy time with friends and family and even hold down a part-time job on weekends or evenings. But be prepared to study hard. Accelerated learning means total focus when you are at college. Just as in a real workplace you will be expected to perform. Part-time program You attend classes two evenings per week from 6.00pm until 9.00pm plus eight Saturday workshops throughout the year. There is also an online study component fully supported by your lecturers and a work experience program to give you valuable exposure to the events industry. We will assist you in finding meaningful work experience with organisations that will extend your skills and knowledge. Studying part-time is a great option for those people that need to work while they study. You can keep your job, find time for friends and family and graduate in twelve months. The part-time program is intensive and exciting so be prepared for a fabulous journey.

We go on lots of excursions Progressive assessment We know people We sharpen your study skills It s called field work and it is designed to take you out to see venues, industry suppliers, trade shows, outdoor event sites and attending many of the fantastic events taking place in and around the city. We think it is the best way to learn. By seeing it all first-hand and meeting the people who make it happen. Both the full-time and parttime classes undertake regular field work. Added extras We believe our graduates should be well-equipped for work in the events industry. You are going to need a big business card because you will walk away from your training with a few extras: Two-way radio operation Complimentary membership to the International Festival and Events Society (IFEA) Job preparation skills from our HR specialist These are valuable extras to have on your CV and will demonstrate to employers that you possess real skills. Exams are a necessary part of the assessment process. But we believe regular assessment tasks spread throughout the course results in better learning outcomes and way less stress. Learning should be enjoyable and our assessment strategy is designed to keep you engaged and performing at your very best throughout the course. We are an environmentally friendly, socially responsible organisation Our students are trained in the theory and practice of sound environmental management at internationally recognised standards ISO:20121. We are a soft copy workplace which means all our systems run on paperless documentation stored on our IT network. We only print when we absolutely need to. Good for the environment and an efficient way of finding and storing information. Our program of guest lecturers brings you into direct contact with some of the event industry s leading figures to share their knowledge and experience. We help you find work in the industry We are not an employment agency. But there is a lot we can do to help you prepare for the big opportunities that will come your way. To boost your employment prospects we have an industry placement program to assist you in finding opportunities for work experience and internships that can lead to employment. Our aim is to match your interests and passions with the right part of the enormous event industry. We assist you in refining your CV and developing communication skills that will help you look your best at job interviews. See our website for graduate success stories. Our study skills program is designed to develop best practice in academic work methods. We assist you to write reports and essays, conduct research, reference correctly, organise your time, prepare for exams and assessment tasks and stay on track with your training program.
