Customisation Philosophy and Partnership Each unique programme will be designed to address the current and future needs of the target group within the organisation, and will be linked to the individual development needs of the participating talent. Indices will be identified against which the success of the programme can be assessed, both for the organisation and for the individual participants. A customisation process will be agreed with the company and could include the following steps: 1. Identify the strategic imperatives for the target group for this programme 2. The design of academic content and learning experiences to enhance the competencies of the target group 3. Consult with the organisation on appropriate topics for Action Learning Projects 4. Work with subject matter experts from the company to fine-tune the academic content of the programme 5. Liaise with the organisation to agree the role of subject matter experts.
Flagship Programmes Executive Development Senior Executive Development Programme (EDP) NQF Level 9 Wits Business School receives many enquiries from organisations for a short attendance programme to develop executives. Some organisations do not want an examined programme for this level of individual and therefore do not want to send these delegates on certificate programmes. This programme consists of 12 days of contact time delivered to meet the requirements of the client organisation. The programme will span a period of four to six months. Successful completion of the programme will result in the awarding of an Attendance Certificate entitled Executive Development Programme. Senior Executive Programme (SEP) NQF Level 8 The programme is intended to be the pinnacle of the generalist executive courses offered by WBS. This will be done through varied pedagogical methods, including case studies, business simulations, company visits and/or action learning. Delegates understanding of strategic issues in organisations will be deepened. This 12 week course consists of 6 core modules plus at least 2 electives. Some of the core modules include; Communication and voice, Strategic Human Resources, Board-level management of Governance and Corporate Accountability as well as Leveraging Technology and Executive Information Systems for Business Advantage. MAP has given me a different outlook on how to succeed in business. It has certainly added value in how I conduct myself and execute my responsibilities as a leader in the work place. - Junia Morare, Senior Account Executive, Anglo American
Management Development Accelerated Development for Emerging Managers NQF Level 6 A persistent paradox in the South African labour market is the growing number of young unemployed graduates and those with equivalent post matric qualifications eager to enter the world of business management. However, the business sector regards them as unemployable because they lack the necessary day-to-day organisational experience and realities. This programme is designed to fill the gap by flexibly combining core management courses with selected personal life skills and sector-relevant electives per cohort. The aim of the programme is to transform participants into self-reliant managers by providing them with the critical tool-kits required for a successful management career. New Managers Programme (NMP) NQF Level 7 The New Managers Programme is a WBS entry-level programme for transforming oneself from a specialist to a general management role. The programme will introduce managers to business principles and skills in management areas while giving participants an overview of the basic principles of finance and marketing, particularly within the South African context. This is accomplished by enhancing skills in analysing and evaluating complex information and in so doing, increasing an understanding of the dynamics of an organisation. The NMP is a must for career progression into a general and eventual senior management position. The course content is rigorous, whilst sufficiently broad to be impactful to anyone who goes through it. Management Advancement Programme (MAP) NQF Level 8 The Management Advancement Programme (MAP) is designed for Middle Managers to accelerate their careers by learning the essential components of management, and earning a certificate of competence that has been highly valued among employers in the South African market for over 25 years. The programme has a modular structure of six courses of study, two non-examinable, but compulsory modules, Group Dynamics and Business Simulation. The course commences with a compulsory two-day full-time Group Dynamics Programme. Thereafter, students begin the academic programme, completing two courses at a time in sequence.
Senior Leaders Development (SLD) NQF Level 8 This competence programme comprises three courses of study in a modular structure: i.e. Strategy, Leadership and Context of Business, as well as an Action Learning Project, Personal Quest, and Coaching and Assessment. In addition, four electives may be selected for the group. It is run as four 5-day sessions (Mondays to Fridays from 08:00 to 17:00) over a period of four to six months. Assignments are completed between blocks. Leadership Development Future Leaders Development (FLD) NQf Level 6 The Future Leader Development Programme aims to equip graduates entering the work place for the first time with the relevant skills and knowledge to adapt to their organisation and develop faster as leaders. Most candidates are only sent on leadership development programmes after a certain length of tenure within corporations. This course seeks to fast track young graduates joining a company for the first time, to set them up for future success. The programme offers both classroom-based input as well as one-on-one coaching sessions towards improving performance. The coaches assigned to students also work with internal company mentors to ensure learnings are translated back into the workplace. The Wits Business School s New Managers Programme has been a great eye opener for me as a new manager. I would encourage anyone to get involved in the programme, as it is an intense, interactive and enjoyable learning experience. - Lebogang Mvula, Department of Water Affairs Managers Leadership Development (MLD) NQF Level 7 This competence programme is ideally suited to new managers as it provides the grounding in the knowledge and skills required to be a manager. The course aims to develop and give them an understanding of the key disciplines that relate to their function as a business manager. The programme comprises seven courses of study in a modular structure. It is run as four 5-weekday sessions over a period of four months. Assignments are completed between blocks. Each module is examined.
