The site is a picturesque Belarusian village with small lakes nearby which is known since 18th century. The volunteers will work on the hill nearby which used to be an ancient settlement of the 5th century BC - 2nd century AD (Iron Age in Belarus). Zhlobin is 93 km away from the biggest regional city Gomel (it will be possible to visit it during the week-end). Physical work to be done: Archeological excavations at the hill of the ancient settlement under the guidance of the research officer from the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus; cleaning, measuring, drawing and enlisting all the found artefacts. Infrastructure: Proskurni is small village, the mobile connection is satisfactory, no wifi will be available. No washing machine. Summer shower and local Russian sauna (banya) will be available. There is also a lake nearby. Zhlobin (80.000 inhabitants) is 8 km away. Accommodation: The participants will live in Proskurni village in a country house. Food: 3 meals a day, participants will be on duty to help the local kitchen lady with cooking. The place is known since 1490 and has several tourist attractions, the most prominent being the castle of a mighty and wealthy family the Sapiehas. The castle now is being renovated little by little (one part of it is a museum already). A lot of important events from the Polish, Lithuanian and Belarusian history are connected with that place. More about the castle: http: //www.belarus.by/en/travel/belarus-life/ruzhany-palace. Work to be done: The volunteers will help cleaning the basements and the yard of the castle. Infrastructure: There is a bank, a post-office, several shops in Ruzhany. The wifi is not available at the site of the camp. No washing machine. Accommodation: The volunteers will live at the local school, boys and girls separately. Food: 3 meals a day, the volunteers will need to help the cooks. Niasvizh used to be the residence of the most powerful Polish-Belarusian noble family - the Radziwills. In the 16th century they turned a wooden village into a stone well-protected town with a castle (which later became a palace) and built the first Belarusian baroque-styled church there. Lately the palace has been renovated and turned into a museum. The town is very popular with the tourists. More about the palace: http://niasvizh.by/en/ Physical work to be done: cleaning the parks in Niasvizh Castle complex. Infrastructure: Niasvizh is a relatively small town (about 14,500 inhabitants). However, as it's very popular with the tourists, there are many cafes and restaurants, shops, several banks, ATMs, a post-office, a hospital etc. Accommodation: the participants will live in a local school building, boys and girls separately. Food: 3 meals a day.
