Introduction Vic (Catalan pronunciation: [ˈbik]) is the capital of the county of Osona, in the Barcelona Province, Catalonia, Spain. Vic's location is 69 km from Barcelona and 60 km from Girona. Vic's position has made it one of the most important towns in central Catalonia. By the other side, Vic is a rural town, within 30.000 habitants. Its very quiet and traditional town, surrounded by mountains. The language is catalan, and if you want to be a volunteer in Vic is really important to learn the language. Here the situation is different than in Barcelona. The weather is really extreme and around 25% of the people living in the city is migrant for economical reasons, mostly from Africa and Asia, and this aspect create a city with a lot of opportunities and also with a lot of work regarding intercultural dialogue. There is also an university with a huge community of ERASMUS students, and also bars, restaurants, and 3 diferents discos open Thursday, Friday and Saturday. EVS project organization AURORA is a small and young organization located in Vic and working with different projects in Vic and in the cities and villages around Vic. Nowadays we are moving in a new office in the city center, and we are working hard to promote our social projects and services for youngsters. We have a high rate of unemployment and we promote international mobility as a tool to combat youth this problem in our region. Also we want to promote intercultural dialogue because in the region there are prejudices and travelling around is a way to skip these. PROPOSED ACTIVITIES FOR VOLUNTEERS we want to have a structured schedule that allows to combine different activities and to provide space for reflection and self-study of volunteers. 1.- YOUTH ON THE MOVE Manlleu i Vic (promotion of ERASMUS+ program as youth exchanges and European voluntary service) Here the volunteer main task is to promote the program ERASMUS+, CV Europass assesment, and increasing motivation of youngsters with fewer opportunities, in collaboration with the social services from the municipalities. Working in a multicultural environment and have special interest on how to integrate Muslim youngsters into the community High motivation and new ideas for the youngsters less motivated Studies or experienced in social and educational work are also important Motivation also in project management Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrznskpu-ka Tuesday and Thursday (12.00-14.00 and 18.00-20.00) Work with the youngsters Monday and Tuesday (9.00-12.00) Catalan Lessons Friday (Office work all the morning) 2.- LANGUAGE CAFES Sessions non formal learning in English for youngsters between 18-25 years old: the project want to increase the languages skills of the young people from our region, giving the opportunity to local youngsters to know another languages and cultures through seminars, meetings points, intercultural workshops and other activities promoting intercultural dialogue and also improving language skills in all the languages. We are providing extra lessons for children from 6-12 years old in 2 public schools:
LA SINIA is a multicultural school in the city of Vic, with a lot of needs and opportunities to learn how to work in this environment and promoting intercultural dialogue. MUNTANYOLA is a rural school outside the city, with an special methodology and with a reduced number of pupils for classroom. Learning process of the children Work in 2 different schools with different methodologies on how to learn English Team work with the teachers from the school Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday (17.00-19.00) Monday and Tuesday (9.00-11.00) Catalan Lessons 4.- DO IT YOURSELF as a space for reflection, no formal education and creation of new activities. Here technicians local partner organizations from AURORA will collaborate on the development of new activities and projects, with a space and a weekly time for discussion and mutual learning between these and the different participating volunteers. Our experience has shown that participants in the European Voluntary Service have the potential and motivation that can be used for personal development and for improving organization of new projects and activities. YOU CAN VISIT OUR EVS BLOG www.projecteaurora.com Practical Aspects WEATHER: Vic is a rural area, with a really extreme weather. Vic is famous for its persistent fog in winter as a result of a persistent thermal inversion with lows temperatures up to -10 C and an absolute record of -24 º. Episodes of cold and severe snowstorms are noticeable. In summer, storms are very common during the dry season typical of the Mediterranean climate of coastal Catalonia. TRANSPORTATION: Vic has urban public transport by buses that run through the main points of the city. Also have a direct connection with the city of Barcelona and Girona, by train and bus, as well as being located at a point. In any case, we have 4 bikes available for volunteers ACCOMMODATION: an apartment in the historic center of the city with all the facilities. POCKET MONEY: each month or week, depend on the needs of the volunteer, you will be given pocket money proportion corresponding to each volunteer. In Spain is 105 /month, and the amount for food is 120 /month. Extra expenses related to work like materials; copies, transport, food, etc will be covered by the project also. LANGUAGE LESSONS: We will provide an intensive course of Catalan lessons for all the volunteers involved in the project.
