Dorte Visby Dorte Visby (b. 1968 )established her own studio in 1997 and her knowledge, experience and inspiration has to a very high degree been gathered through her stay in Montpelier, Cairo and travels in England, Holland, Indonesia, Malaysia and China. Visby's studio is situated right along the wild and stormy North Sea coast, the untamed nature of which as well as the ancient and unusual cultures she has experienced, is reflected in her works. Through her deep interest in nature and the surrounding landscape she has developed a highly skilled command of combined firing techniques Visby has developed a strong and characteristic ceramic expression setting her alongside Gutte Eriksen's practices and like Eriksen Visby uses the vessel as a vehicle for her combination of firing techniques, obtaining unique colour shades and structures on the rough surface. Many vessels appear as were they dug out of the local landscape. Dorte Visby also works with architectural installations and has received public commissions for decorative works in connections with buildings, bearing witness to her sense of architectural forms and the correlation between various mediums.
