2 Tutors Biographies Ayesha Gamiet E: W: Ayesha Gamiet is an artist, illustrator and art educator from the South East of England. Her work is inspired by traditional arts of the world and the beauty of nature. Ayesha's interest in art and culture led her to pursue a BA in African and Asian Art History and Archaeology at SOAS, University of London, and a Master s Degree in Traditional and Islamic Arts at the Prince's School of Traditional Arts. During her MA, she had the opportunity to study Islamic geometry, biomorphic design, Persian and Indian miniature painting, ceramics and calligraphy, amongst many other traditional arts. Ayesha specialised in Islamic manuscript illumination, or "tezhip" as it is known in Turkish, and has spent the past nine years travelling to Istanbul where she is completing a traditional apprenticeship (ijaza) in this beautiful craft. Ayesha also holds a Master s Degree in Education (with a focus on Art, Creativity and Culture in Education) from the University of Cambridge. She is a qualified secondary school art teacher with experience of teaching art to adults and children, from primary to post-graduate level. Ayesha teaches both within the UK and abroad, and works as an artist completing commissions and design work. Her teaching, travels and experiences in the rich world of Islamic art continue to inspire and inform her work.

5 Samantha Buckley Samantha Buckley trained originally as a ceramic designer and printer, specializing in hand painted etchings, which were sold successfully in retail outlets such as Liberty s and Christies Contemporary Art. Her images have also been published as greetings cards and posters by The art Group, Gallery 5 and Image Conscious. Samantha most recently studied miniature painting at The Princes School of Traditional Arts, where she received an MA with distinction. Since finishing her studies, Samantha has gone on to explore the miniature painting tradition and how it can be used in a contemporary environment, culminating in a year long stay in India furthering her knowledge of the tradition. Her first commission was for the company Traditional Arts Limited. Samantha designed a range of chinaware called Kirtim flower and has since been involved in a number of projects including scarf designs, a giftware range based on her miniature paintings, and silver and glassware products. Samantha has also designed china products for The Highgrove Shop at the estate of HRH The Prince Of Wales in Tetbury, Gloucestershire. Her ranges of products The Highgrove hen and Magnificent Pigs have proven to be most popular. The other ranges include a set of china for afternoon tea called Summer Fowers and a fern design which was used for jewellery and glassware. Samantha also assists on the MA program teaching miniature painting. She has run summer workshops at The Princes School as well as night schools, as part of the adult education program.

6 Also as part of the schools outreach work Samantha has also been involved in a number of projects teaching children about the nature of traditional art, including Ashley primary school and The Victoria and Albert Museum. As part of a regeneration project in Burnley Samantha also worked with adults in the local community exploring how to use traditional arts to benefit working lives. Amreen Phul Amreen Phul read her degree at University College London at the Bartlett School of Architecture. She pursued her masters at the Prince s School of Traditional Arts to undertake the VITA (Visual Islamic Traditional Arts) program. A two-year practical course learning the traditional art forms which are no longer being practiced by Master Craftsmen of geometry, calligraphy, islimi/arabesque, gilding, mosaic, stain glass, ceramics and marquetry. Having analysed traditional Islamic geometric compositions it has allowed her to create contemporary items for today s society. Providing bespoke handmade finely crafted art works. She believes form, geometry and colour are not simply aesthetically pleasing but represent a more profound universal order.
