The program provides financial support and professional guidance to individuals pursuing doctoral degrees in psychology. The program has five programs to support the training of researchers and practitioners. Funded by a grant from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the Fellowship Program seeks to attract talented minority students interested in mental health issues and to facilitate their placement, work, and success in graduate programs throughout the U.S. Applicants can be new or continuing graduate students. However, the MFP is primarily designed for minority students entering a doctoral program in sociology (with an emphasis on mental health) for the first time or for those who are in the early stages of their graduate programs. Fellows receive an annual stipend of $16,500, plus payment of their tuition. Funding may be extended for up to three years. In addition, the program provides professional development training for the fellows in conjunction with the ASA's Annual Meeting. Summer research internships are used to place Fellows in projects at

sites with major, ongoing studies in mental health. Through this program, the Fund seeks to introduce a diverse group of students to issues relating to philanthropy, voluntarism, and nonprofit organizations. The scholarship, which is based on academic excellence and need, is open to both undergraduate and graduate minority students. In addition, the Hearst Scholar serves as a summer intern with the Fund. A scholarship grant ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 will be awarded, depending on the recipient s educational level, financial need, and time commitment. higher education or advanced training through an accredited college, university, vocation, or technical school. Partial scholarships are awarded to students meeting the eligibility requirements of the Foundation. A Board of Directors is responsible for reviewing applications and determining grant recipients on an annual basis. Scholarships are renewable based upon eligibility, and the amount of the grant may vary from year to year based upon the amount of funds available and the number of grants awarded. Fellowships are awarded in a nationwide competition to individuals who demonstrate superior scholarship and show the greatest promise for future achievement as scholars, researchers, and teachers in institutions of higher education. Students must be of Hispanic background, must have completed at least one semester of higher education and must be enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program at an accredited undergraduate four-year college or graduate program. Academic excellence, extracurricular activities, and financial need are strongly considered. Scholarships range from $250 to $1000. Application deadlines are the 15th of February and October. Applications are only accepted within 45 days prior to the deadline. Applications must be received by the deadline. To qualify, all applicants must: Be planning to become a full-time student at an accredited college or university in the United States, have a minimum 3.0 grade point average on their transcripts; demonstrate a commitment or contribution to the lesbian community; demonstrate financial need; and follow Legacy s Lesbian Leadership Scholarship guidelines. Consideration will include: academic performance/honors, personal/financial hardship and, especially, service to the LGBT community. The Program is established in recognition of the contributions New Americans have made to American life and in gratitude for the opportunities the United States has afforded the donors and their family. The applicant must either have a bachelor's degree or be in her/his final year of undergraduate study. Those who have a bachelor's degree may already be pursuing graduate study and may receive Fellowship support to continue that study. Individuals who are in the third, or subsequent, year of study in the same graduate program are not, however, eligible for this competition. Students who have received a master's degree in a program and are continuing for a doctoral degree in the same program are considered to have been in the same program from the time they began their work on their master's degree.to be eligible you must not be older than thirty years of age as of NOVEMBER
