Mission The GII is a leading centre of excellence which, in cooperation with international qualifying bodies, provides learning, sustains development and rewards achievement for professionals engaged in conventional and Islamic Insurance practice and Risk Management in the Gulf region and beyond. History The GII was set up by industry to serve the growing needs for human capital development in the fast moving insurance, risk management and financial services sector in the region. GII was officially incorporated in June 2007 and licensed as a Management and Business Training Institute by the Ministry of Labour, Directorate of Training Institutes Affairs, Bahrain. GII moved into its centre headquarters in Amwaj Islands, Bahrain, in February 2008. Members of these Councils are recognized leading academics and executives from industry, ensuring qualify standards and promoting the GII Code of Professional Conduct.

GII Membership GII commits to assisting its Members to achieve the highest possible levels of competency and continued professional and personal development. Membership is open to all individuals who are pursuing a career in insurance or related financial and risk management services and wish to follow the GII route to professional qualifications GII has developed a Members Charter which is aligned to international benchmarks and which sets goals of the highest levels of professionalism to be achieved by both the Institute as a centre of learning excellence, and its Members. Our designations of Candidate, Associate and Fellow embody this commitment and, to this aim, we work closely with international qualification bodies and institutes to ensure that our offerings are regionally relevant, specific and portable, and as such are a valuable contributing factor to the successful advancement of both individual and industry.

Our Goals PROMOTING LEARNING We develop training material and a suite of accredited certificate programmes that is region-specific including Arabic and Takaful course materials We develop e-learning programmes to support our courses and qualifications. We develop license-driven qualifications for recognition of holders by supervisory authorities as a standard of competency in insurance and financial services. We develop training programmes pursuant to national economic agendas such as Emiratisation, Saudisation, Bahrainisation etc. DEVELOPING LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES We undertake studies on behalf of national and regional authorities to assess strategic positioning of the labour force and its competitiveness in the international financial services market We assist our clients with skills gap analyses and consultation for training needs. We promote employee education and career development with employers and human resource managers. We develop graduate, trainee and apprenticeship schemes to fulfill future employment opportunities in the insurance and risk management markets. SUSTAINING CAREER DEVELOPMENT We provide international accrediting bodies and professional institutes with facilities, administrative support, trainers and examination services We provide national, regional and international opportunities and fora for Continued Professional Development. We provide training for competencies ancillary to the industry such as management, marketing and Information technology. We organise advanced level technical workshops for the dissemination and transfer of knowledge and experience among participants. We promote professional ethics, best practice, corporate governance, and codes of conduct among our members. We instill a culture of learning and career fulfillment in our members who are tomorrow s industry leaders

REWARDING ACHIEVEMENT We recognise our Members achievements by: Awarding quality accredited Certificates of Competency by examination. Bestowing upon them designations which demonstrate to their employers and peers their level of commitment to learning and qualification. Awarding prior learning credits for further studies with international partner institutes. Members are awarded the designation of Associates (AGII) and Fellows (FGII) upon: attainment of the relevant level of qualification through GII certification programmes or a combination of GII Certification and prior learning credits having completed the required years of practical experience in the insurance industry in insurance or related financial and risk management services sector in the Middle East and North Africa, confirmation by the Qualifications and Standards Council in accordance with its Fit and Proper criteria. In addition to GII designations, qualified members following GII certificate courses can earn prior learning credits from our international partner Institutes: Members can earn 210 out of the 290 credits required for the Diploma and Advanced Diploma of the Chartered Insurance Institute (UK). GII also provides tuition classes for the remaining 80 credits to enable members to attain these awards. 3 out of 8 credits required for CPCU designation from the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters and the Insurance Institute of America

The GII Academy We deliver our courses in-house at our HQ in Amwaj, Kingdom of Bahrain, or customized at clients premises in either English or Arabic. There are daytime as well as evening classes. We use a blended learning approach with strong focus on the use of technology. Our faculty is highly qualified and we also invite external specialised lecturers from overseas to present specific courses. Our programmes are portable and convertible. We have two faculties: Insurance Academy (including E-learning, Risk Management, Investments and Financial Planning) Management & Marketing Academy (including the Assessment & Language Centre). Insurance and Risk Management The Insurance Academy offers Induction, Technical Competency and Management Development certificates in various subjects. These stand-alone accredited certificates are combined to achieve the Associateship (AGII) and Fellowship (FGII). We offer a full time undergraduate programme leading up to professional certification in insurance, marketing and investments as well as diploma and advanced diploma of the Chartered Insurance Institute. For those entering the insurance workplace, GII has developed a programme called E2E for the Insurance sector (Entry to Employment) which equips participants with the necessary skills to embark on a rewarding career in insurance and risk management Tuition is also offered for the achievement of professional qualifications from renowned institutes such as The Chartered Institute of Insurance (CII) UK, Securities and Investment Institute (SII) UK, Institute of Risk Management (IRM) UK, London Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the American Insurance Institute CPCU, USA. GII also arranges regular short specialist courses, workshops and seminars contributing to Continued Professional Development.

Induction Certificate in Insurance Principles and Practice (awarded 15 CII credits) The Induction Certificate in Insurance Practice (ICIP) is the entry level course for school leavers, new entrants and people already involved in the industry. The course is designed to provide a broad knowledge of insurance principles and practice, relevant legal principles and an overview of the various classes of insurance. Technical Competency Certificates (TCC) The GII series of Technical Competency Certificates are designed to cover an in depth study of the specific subject area. Each certificate is a self-contained certified module of study. Many of these subjects are awarded up to 30 credits by the Chartered Insurance Institute, UK. TCC subjects currently include: Commercial Property & Pecuniary Insurance Liability Insurance Life Insurance Reinsurance Practice Marine Insurance Motor Insurance Personal Insurance Medical Insurance Management Development Certificates (MDC) The GII series of Management Development Certificates is designed to provide a solid foundation for candidates progression to management level in various areas of the insurance market. Like the TCCs, each certificate is a self-contained certified module of study and many are accredited by the Chartered Insurance Institute, UK. MDC Subjects currently include: Claims Management Underwriting Management Risk Management Insurance Intermediaries Marketing and Management Insurance Companies Regulation & Supervision Takaful

Management and Marketing Academy The Management and Marketing Academy offers: English for Business from the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCIEB) at different levels The Introductory Certificate in Marketing from London Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCIEB) Various management, communication and customer service short courses An Executive Development Programme for the Insurance sector Certificate in Practical ICT Sills from London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCIEB)

Our Partners GII works with international strategic partners to deliver professional qualifications of value to industry: THE CHARTERED INSURANCE INSTITUTE The GII Fellowship has already been granted 210 credits out of 290 required to obtain the CII Advanced Diploma in Insurance (ACII). This is the maximum number of credits awarded to an external institute that can be counted towards a CII qualification. As the main examining body for the industry, the Institute provides a range of relevant vocational qualifications attracting over 37,000 international candidates a year.
