Typical entry requirements: To be eligible to undertake the BA (Hons) Security and Risk Management, students will have successfully completed HE Level 1 and HE Level 2 of the University of Leicester Foundation Degree in Security and Risk Management. Entry requirements for the programme as a whole are flexible but the applicant will normally possess - 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above; or equivalent; - or NVQ Level 2; GNVQ Level 2 plus; Access award - Previous experience within the security industry or public order sector (police and armed forces etc) - FEC introductory courses (Level 2) will be recognized as contributing to the above. Entry is open to both UK and overseas students. The latter must demonstrate their proficiency in English by achieving either a minimum score of 580 in the Princeton Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a minimum score of 6.5 overall from the English Language Testing Service (ELTS). 4. Programme aims: The BA (Hons) Security and Risk Management programme aims to: - integrate academic knowledge and understanding with, and support the development of, vocational skills and competencies in respect of both existing security practitioners and new entrants to the security industry; - develop students knowledge and understanding of the core issues and concepts at a local, national and global level (drawing from the criminological, sociological, political, legal and managerial literature); - enable students to critically apply their knowledge, understanding and experience to their own work environment and to new situations and opportunities; - provide students with the knowledge and capacity to use both qualitative and quantitative methods of social sciences research and investigation; - encourage students to develop a range of transferable skills in the contexts of security and risk ; - enable students to plan and pursue their continuing professional development through progression to post-graduate or industry-related programmes.

3 6. Programme : Intended Learning Teaching and Learning How Demonstrated? (a) Discipline specific knowledge and competencies Demonstrate mastery of a broad and detailed body of theory, methods and substantive analysis in relation to the organisational, national and global of security and risk Recognise key concepts and be capable of applying knowledge and understanding in workplace situations and to new contexts and environments. Demonstrate recognition of the main qualitative and quantitative social science research methods and be capable of utilising them in the of risk and security at an organisational level. (ii) Understanding and application of key concepts and techniques Ability to analyse key theoretical approaches in the of risk and security and evaluate their appropriateness in solving problems in this field. Present knowledge and arguments in a clear and concise way in a variety of written formats including the use of VLE. Ability to assess the appropriateness of the evidence and the methods used in studies, their value and their limitations. Successful completion of all coursework assignments, including a personal development plan 7. Special features: The BA (Hons) Security and Risk Management is only available to students who have successfully completed the University of Leicester Foundation Degree in Security and Risk Management. It will provide a platform for students who wish to progress to the MSc in Security and Risk Management, or continuous professional development. The programme will be offered through distance learning, on a flexible basis. The maximum registration period will be four years, but we would expect most students to complete in two to three years. There may be a break between students completing the Foundation Degree and commencing the final year for the BA. In these circumstances, the maximum period for this break would be three years. The BA (Hons) will make significant use of innovative e-learning technologies for both learning and teaching purposes and student assessment. 8.
