NAMI Caring Families of Southwest Oklahoma Resource Guide NAMI Caring Families of Southwest Oklahoma PO Box 2443 Lawton, OK 73502 NAMI OK 4200 Perimeter Center Suite 150 Oklahoma City, OK 73112 405-230-1900 1-800-583-1264 www.ok.nami.org Welcome You Are Not Alone! NAMI Caring Families of Southwest Oklahoma welcomes you to join our grassroots organization in helping families and friends who suffer with mental illness. By working together to educate and inform others we will improve the treatment, care and future of individuals with mental illness. Just as importantly, as caregivers we will no longer struggle alone in our search to find answers about the troubling, stigmatized and chronic disease of mental illness. Remember, thousands of families are facing what you and your family may be experiencing. Your first step to recovery is in reaching out to those who can support and help you in finding the resources and answers you need. Every family s needs will be individually based on the specific situations of their life. More often than not the first line of defense in fighting mental illness is to seek medical attention, and advise, either
emergency or routine. Other resources necessary for successful treatment may include therapy, support, socialization training, and help for individuals to meet their basic needs as their ability to care for themselves may be compromised by their illness. We hope the list of resources included in this book will help you and your loved one with mental illness to find the services that best fit the family s needs. The road to recovery is not an easy one. The key is DON'T GIVE UP! Finding the correct combination of services can be time consuming. DONT STOP until you find what works best for you. Gather around you people who understand and care, not only for your loved one with an illness, but for your family as well. Most importantly, remember when dealing with mental illness, sometimes there are more questions than answers. So seek support in the community from those who have experienced what you are going through. NAMI Caring Families of Southwest Oklahoma can help! A Special Thank You! The information in this booklet has been researched and prepared by Kathryn Ragaglia, MSW and Members of NAMI Caring Families of Southwest Oklahoma.
