Professional Diving Services main capabilities include, but are not limited to; Construction / Demolition Professional Diving Services have successfully completed a large number major multi-million dollar construction projects across Victoria and around Australia. Port of Melbourne projects have included wharf reconstruction projects at Appleton Dock, Swanston Dock, Station Pier, Webb Dock, Princes Pier and Docklands. Other works have included pipeline and outfall installations, marine structure demolition, and providing diving services for the entire Port of Melbourne, Channel Deepening Project. Contaminated Environments Professional Diving Services is an industry leader in contaminated environment diving. Contaminated diving is widely regarded as the most specialised branch of the commercial diving industry. Typical work involves working in raw sewage, dangerous chemicals, oil, sludge, and food products. All our divers have extensive experienced at conducting maintenance, damage repair, dredging, inspection and equipment recovery in contaminated environments. Cutting and Welding Professional Diving Services conducts a wide range of operations including underwater thermal cutting, and wet welding. PDS use Broco brand ultra-thermic thermal lance cutting equipment, and Broco wet welding equipment and electrodes. PDS divers are highly experienced in wet welding and coded for wet welding works. Typical cutting jobs include removal of piles, sheet pile wall, demolition and removal of vessels, pipelines, and underwater obstructions. Environmental Surveys Professional Diving Services conduct environmental seabed surveys and environmental monitoring. Over the past 30 years PDS has developed safe practical methods of data and sample collection. Our team, with qualifications and experience in Marine Ecology, Marine Biology and Maritime Archaeology, offer a high level of experience to any environmental project. Ship Surveys Ship surveys are a PDS specialty; PDS are accredited with Lloyds of London, GL, ABS and BV for in water surveys. PDS has conducted more than 1000 in-water surveys and reports on vessels of all sizes. We have diving crews permanently based in the Port of Melbourne, Port of Geelong, and Port of Portland. Our survey reports are supplied in digital format and are of the highest standard. PDS can also provide propeller polishing to Rupert class A finish. Heritage Surveys Professional Diving Services work closely with heritage agencies and consultants throughout Australia and overseas. PDS supply diving supervision, diving equipment and logistic assistance to maritime heritage projects Australia wide. When conducting all works PDS approach all sites with the highest respect for Maritime History ensuring all dive operations are conducted in accordance with Commonwealth Historic Shipwreck Act 1981 and relevant State Acts. Tank Inspections and cleaning Professional Diving Services is able to inspect, clean and repair water storage facilities, from potable or grey water storage systems to pools, fire and general water storage. Our confined space qualified divers will conduct a detailed inspection and provide a comprehensive report accompanied with digital photographs or if preferred digital video of the inspection. Our divers are experts at locating and sealing leaks without the need to drain any storage facility. Ship Salvage and Repair Professional Diving Services has vast experience in vessel salvage and repair, from the salvage of the 40,000 ton bulk carrier MV Devprayag on the Victorian coast to the underwater demolition and removal of the ex-sydney ferry Lady Chelmsford from within the Docklands precinct. PDS has a large range of salvage equipment at its disposal to assist in any salvage operation. Structure Surveys and Reporting Professional Diving Services conducts underwater inspections, surveys and develop condition assessment reports on a vast range of marine and freshwater structures. These include steel, concrete and timber structures that support wharfs, piers, jetties, marinas, inlet towers, weirs, dams, locks, pump stations and pipelines. PDS has inspected more than 100,000 piles supporting marine structures throughout Australia. The condition reports produced from the survey results are highly detailed and considered first class. Pile Protection and Repair Systems Professional Diving Services are an approved Denso supplier and installer of pile protection and pile strengthening systems. PDS has installed in excess of 8000 pile protection and pile strengthening systems throughout Australia. PDS are able to supply pile remediation works including pile epoxy strengthening, pile splice/replacement and pile protection systems to both marine and freshwater structures.
Projects Professional Diving Services are at the forefront of commercial underwater solutions. A selection of ongoing and major projects include: Channel Deepening Project Professional Diving Services were contracted to the Port of Melbourne and Boskalis for all diving services related to the channel deepening of the Port of Melbourne for over 15 years. PDS completed diving works associated with environmental monitoring, sediment sampling, wharf demolition, construction, removal of pipelines and the underwater maintenance of all vessels and dredging equipment throughout the project. Inspection/removal of sludge from 90m litre methane reactor Professional Diving Services conduct regular inspections several times throughout the year on a 90 million litre methane reactor at one of Australia s major cheese and butter manufacturers. Works have been conducted at the plant to change piping inside the reactor and to dredge approximately 1000cubic metres of dead bacteria from the reactor floor. 24 Victoria Dock Professional Diving Services were contracted to assist in the demolition and reconstruction of 24 Victoria Dock. Works included the installation of Denso 100 series pile protection system to approximately 155 piles under the wharf. The works also included the installation of pile bracing and access ladders. Diamond Offshore Ocean Patriot refit Professional Diving Services supplied diving crews to the semisubmersible rig Ocean Patriot to conduct hull surveys and cleaning, coffer-damming of the through hull penetrations and welding of approximately 240 anodes to the hull. Due to the urgency of the project PDS supplied multiple dive crews 24 hours per day for two months. In addition to the diving works PDS supplied a range of WH&S services to the project including confined space entry, gas detection, height safety and noise monitoring. Lady Chelmsford recovery PDS were commissioned to demolish and remove the 140 ton ex- Sydney ferry Lady Chelmsford from where it sank at its berth within Docklands. The remains were cut up on the seabed and removed in sections for disposal. The project involved co-ordination between the insurers, residents, government agencies and contractors.
Spirit of Tasmania Professional Diving Services supply diving services to TT-Line conducting surveys, maintenance and repairs to The Spirit Of Tasmania vessels and have been doing so for over fifteen years. This has included class In- Water Surveys, propeller polishing, propeller repairs, callout emergency inspection and ongoing maintenance. PDS also assist TT-Line in the ongoing maintenance of its berthing facilities. Altona Treatment Plant Professional Diving Services provided contaminated diving crews to the Altona Treatment Plant in 2009 and 2011 to conduct major alterations to the anaerobic digester pond. The works entailed, all in nil visibility, the cutting out and removing existing aerators, underwater construction of new guide and bracket systems and installation of the new aerators. Ex-HMAS Canberra From the pre-scuttling site selection inspections, vessel cleaning and pest removal to the post scuttling clearance and monitoring surveys PDS has been involved in the project to make available the to divers as one of Victoria s premier dive sites. Victorian Desalination Project Professional Diving Services has been providing diving services to the Victorian Desalination Project since its inception. These works have included environmental monitoring and seabed surveys for site selection, construction, installation of offshore structures, ongoing environmental monitoring, and the underwater maintenance of the facility. Patterson River Tidal Gates Professional Diving Services has been maintaining four sets of tidal gates at Patterson River, Carrum for Melbourne Water for fifteen years. This includes the ongoing maintenance, survey, cleaning and repairs of the structures. PDS were recently contracted to supply diving services in relation to coffer damming and gate replacement to ensure their working operation for the next 30 years. Princes Pier Swanston Dock Refurbishment Swanston Dock is Australia s largest container terminal, and from 2005 to 2009 PDS provided diving crews to conduct significant refurbishment works to the wharves. These works included pile survey and subsequent welding repairs, bracing and anode installation. Pile strengthening and pile protection systems were applied to in excess of 1600 steel piles. The works were coordinated around full vessel and unloading operations. Professional Diving Services worked in conjunction with Fitzgerald Construction to survey in excess of 2000 timber piles and subsequent repairs to more than 1100 piles. Repairs included pile replacement, strengthening and protection systems. The project was completed inside 9 months and all within time and budget.
Other Services Recreational Scuba training Professional Diving Services offer recreational dive training certified by the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI). This internationally recognised dive training caters for all levels, from open water diver through to instructor levels. NAUI dive training is offered from all offices. Hyperbaric Technologies Our recompression chambers are fully designed and manufactured in Australia and are constructed to a quality which meets Australian Standards and PVHO-1 (pressure Vessels for Human Occupation guidelines). Our recompression chambers are portable and come with all necessary breathing systems, pipe work, manuals and training. We offer installation services, maintenance and onsite staff training.
