PROGRAMME DVS SYMPOSION THE INDUSTRIAL INSURANCE CONGRESS 09. - 11.9.2015 MUNICH Our partners:

Ladies and Gentlemen, The DVS Symposion is taking place for the tenth time in its current form in Munich. An anniversary that we at DVS are proud of as it shows that during this period we have been able to establish the event as the foremost industrial insurance congress and market place in the German-speaking world. I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to our partners; some of who have been supporting us from the word go in staging and financing this event. Last year I talked about the stormy period that the industrial insurance market has been weathering. This comment referred above all to the series of actual storms Germany had experienced at the time and their impacts on the insurance landscape. But we are still negotiating turbulent times today that have the potential to make a lasting impact on our industry. The phase of low interest rates the ECB continues to oversee may not have led to any financial losses amongst insurers so far, but the discussions regarding such a scenario are increasing, for good reason in my view. This also impacts captive insurance companies and their investment strategy. Another debate that is preoccupying us increasingly these days is the situation in Greece with all its potential ramifications. Another topic on our minds this year is terror. First, at the turn of the New Year there was an unpleasant surprise when contrary to all expectations, the state terrorism risk insurance programme TRIA was not extended in the US to begin with. Even if this decision was then rectified swiftly, this immediately led to a tangible increase in the prices for coverage of terrorism risks on the international insurance markets and to temporary capacity bottlenecks. Second, over the next few weeks discussions will be taking place on the extension of state liability for the German terrorism risk insurance company EXTREMUS AG beyond 31.12.2015. In light of the risk of terror which is noticeably changing and ultimately increasing further in Germany too, we at DVS made it clear to the parties involved early on that policy-holding industry would like to see state liability extended. Finally, the repercussions of the Ukraine crisis continue to keep us in suspense. Now, some observers are speaking openly of the prospect of relapsing into the days of the Cold War. Beyond this, the economic sanctions imposed are having an effect - they are not only exacerbating the economic crisis in Russia, they also impacting the West due to the restrictions on trade relations. For German industry in particular, whose strong economic partnership with Russia is not something born just of the last few decades, this is leading to significant losses. This year, too, we will be dealing with a range of current issues in the specialist forums at the DVS Symposion, which will no doubt provide the basis for constructive discussions and debates. In addition to this, one focal point of this year s event will be an issue that is of concern not just to our industry demographic change and the challenges it entails in training and recruiting the next generation of suitable staff for our industry. This issue, which we have dubbed Next Generation, will be something you encounter on multiple occasions at this year s DVS Symposion. On that note, I look forward to welcoming you back to our interesting and exciting anniversary event in Munich in September. DVS Chairman Deutscher Versicherungs-Schutzverband e.v.
