She is the first Hofstra alumna to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals. Susan T. Kluewer was installed as the secretary of the Nassau County Bar Association in June 1999. CLASS OF 1975 Joel M. Scheer was elected president of the Northampton County Bar Association for Northampton County, Pennsylvania. CLASS OF 1978 David P. Cybulski was appointed manager of Labor Policy Administration for the Postal Service at its Washington, D.C., headquarters after serving as chief spokesperson in the 1998 collective bargaining negotiations between the Postal Service and its 60,000-member Mail Handlers Union. Kenneth L. Marten was installed as the second vice president of the Nassau County Bar Association in June 1999. CLASS OF 1979 William D. Bader s most recent publication, titled Justice Levi Woodbury: A Reputational Study, appeared in The Journal of Supreme Court History, Vol. 2, 1998. The article was coauthored by Roy M. Mersky, the William Stamps Farish Professor of Law at the University of Texas Law School. Ilene S. Cooper was recently appointed vice chairperson for the Estate and Trust Administration Section for the New York State Bar Association. She is an estate litigator and counsel to the Uniondale, New York, law firm of Farrel Fritz, P.C. Neil Groberg opened a law practice in central Connecticut after almost 20 years as an employment attorney. The practice provides expert and practical legal advice on a myriad of employment issues to employers and employees in Connecticut and New York. He lives in Cheshire, Connecticut, with his wife, Ellen B. Wolfson, M.D., and two children, Becky and Dan. Walter Gumersell has become counsel with the Melville, New York, law firm of McMillan, Rather, Bennett & Rigano, P.C., in March 1999. Mr. Gumersell concentrates in corporate, business and financial areas. CLASS OF 1980 Dolores Fredrich was installed as an elected director of the Nassau County Bar Association in June 1999. Joyce Lipton Rogak became a member of the Oceanside, New York, law firm of Lawrence N. Rogak L.L.C. in the medical malpractice department. CLASS OF 1981 David M. Steinman joined the Cleveland-based national health care consulting firm New Health Management as a principal. Mr. Steinman has more than 20 years experience in serving institutional clients in both the private and public sectors on a wide range of strategic and operations improvement initiatives. Nancy T. Sunshine has been appointed chief clerk of the Appellate Term for the Second and Eleventh, and Ninth and Tenth Judicial Districts. Ms. Sunshine has been law secretary to Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Gloria Cohen Aronin since 1988. CLASS OF 1982 Patrick Brea was named the 1999 Adult Volunteer of the Year by the Cross Island YMCA. He is a partner in the law firm of Brea Stone & Yankowitz in Floral Park, New York. He is also a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the Catholic Lawyers Guild of Queens County. Nancy E. Ross has joined the law firm of Sachs, Sax and Klein, P.A., in Boca Raton, Florida, where she serves as managing attorney of the firm s community association collections and foreclosures department. Ms. Ross and her husband, Steve, have resided in Boca Raton since her graduation from Hofstra Law. They have two sons, Gregg and Matthew. 44
CLASS OF 1983 John G. Ferreira was elected a partner of the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, law firm of Morgan Lewis & Bockius in March 1999. He is a member of the firm s executive compensation and employee benefits practice group. Mr. Ferreira also recently adopted two children, Victoria Joy and Kyle Jacob. The two children join four-year-old brother, Tyler James. H a rold Milstein joined the Silicon Valley office of the California law firm of Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe as special counsel. Regina Seltzer received the Long Island Pine Barrens Society s Environmental Achievement Award for her pro bono legal services for the organization. She has been the Society s attorney for three years. CLASS OF 1984 Robin Cohen Davidson recently joined the New York City law firm of Lester Schwab Katz & Dwyer in the coverage practice group. She resides in Dix Hills, New York, with her two daughters, Jennifer and Rebecca. Tracey J. Epstein was appointed director for Nationwide Insurance s eight trial division offices in New York State. She will continue to base her practice, Epstein, Hill, Grammatico & Gann, in Hauppauge, New York. Francis Garbanzos celebrated his 24th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood. He also celebrated his parents 69th wedding anniversary. His father, Jose, is 101 years old, and his mother, Concepcion, is 91 years old. Russell I. Marnell has been accepted as a member of the prestigious American Inns of Court in the area of family law. He also had an article published in the New York Law Journal that discusses custody issues and the Parental Kidnaping Prevention Act. He recently lectured on The Personal Injury Paralegal in New York. Mr. Marnell is chairman of the Nassau County Bar Association Matrimonial Committee s Child Custody Sub-Committee and is a Nassau County Family Court Law Guardian. This year Mr. Marnell was accepted as a Fellow to the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and elected to the board of directors of the Association of Professional Financial Consultants, a diverse group of professionals representing all aspects of the financial service area. Denise F. Molia was elected to the Supreme Court of Suffolk County in 1999. She is a member of the Suffolk County Bar Association, co-chair of the Municipal Law Committee, member of the Suffolk County Women s Bar Association, and a member of the Suffolk County Columbian Lawyers. Her profile appeared in the New York Law Journal s Profiles from the Bench. Debra G. Speyer has been selected by P h i l a d e l p h i a magazine in its Best Lawyers of Philadelphia. Ms. Speyer also participated in Hofstra Law S c h o o l s Supreme Court Admission in April 1999. CLASS OF 1985 Gregory A. Bedell is pleased to announce his marriage to Jennifer Jayne Fondrevay on September 6, 1998. He was admitted to the Bar of the State of New York in March 1999 and works for the Chicago, Illinois, law firm of Collins & Bargione. Ms. Fondrevay is a vice president and partner in the Chicago office of J. Walter Thompson. Pauline Contantino joined Fry Consultants Incorporated as a senior consultant, where she will concentrate on assisting clients to manage risks related to services for the aging population. Sean Downes was honored as one of the top Irish American business leaders by the Irish Voice newspaper. He was featured in the June 15, 1999, Dreamers of Dreams The 1999 Irish Business Awards Issue. Joseph M. Sanchez retired as professor emeritus of political science at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York. CLASS OF 1986 Celeste Cardenas-Curry was installed as an elected director of the Nassau County Bar Association in June 1999. F l o rence B. CLASS OF 1988 Gregory A. Drews is pleased to announce the formation of Deutchman &. Drews, LLC, a full-service general practice firm specializing in litigation. Mr. Drews was recently certified as a civil trial attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey. James F. Gesualdi continues to be active in land-use and zoo and aquarium-related issues. He published a guest viewpoint in Long Island Business News in August 1998, on Making the Long Island Land Use Permitting Process Work. He was also recognized in the Winners section in Newsday in November 1998 for being selected to join the faculty of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association s Zoo School for zoological professionals and managers where he taught animal ethics. Mr. Gesualdi had an article published in volume 9 of the Journal of the Elephant Managers Association titled Recent Legal and Regulatory Currents: Changing Tides of Potential Managerial Interest. Mr. Gesualdi currently has a solo practice in Islip, New York. Jaspreet Mayall, with colleague Jothy Narendran, has formed a professional group for lawyers from India and South Asia for the purposes of networking among Indian businesspeople. He is a bankruptcy partner at the East Meadow, New York, law firm of Certilman Balin Adler & Hyman. Nathan Shafner has been appointed by Connecticut Governor John G. Rowland to serve on the advisory board of the Workers Compensation Commission as an employee representative. Mr. Shafner is a principal at the Groton, Connecticut, law offices of O Brien, Shafner, Stuart, Kelly & Morris, P.C., where he handles workers compensation claims throughout the state and claims filed under the federal Longshore Act. He is an active member of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Workers Compensation Executive Committee and regularly testifies before the Connecticut General Assembly on legislative proposals that impact injured workers and their families. CLASS OF 1989 Robin S. Abramowitz was named pro bono attorney of the month by The Suffolk Lawyer in February 1999 for her work with the Pro Bono Project s Bankruptcy Screening Panel where she has handled 90 cases since 1993. Ms. Abramowitz is a partner at the law firm of Lazer, Aptheker, Feldman, Rosella & Yedid, L.L.P., in Melville, New York. Rhonda Hartman and Mark Weinstein announce the birth of their daughters, Julia, born on October 6, 1997, and Emily, born on October 13, 1999. Joel R. Spivack has been bonded as a c o m m e rcial and retail collection lawyer by The National List, Inc., and has been reappointed to the Cherry Hill Township Zoning Board of Adjustment. Mr. Spivack practices bankruptcy, creditor s rights, business and corporate law, collection, re a l estate, zoning and land-use law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Robert F. Tucker recently joined the National Association of Securities Dealers, the parent company of the NASDAQ stock market, to manage their IT contracting. Mr. Tucker lives in Maryland with his wife, Mary, and two children, Avery Leigh and Austin. CLASS OF 1990 Leslie Ann Berkoff was named conews director for the International Women s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation. As of fall 2000, she will be the vice chair of the Nassau County Bar Association s Bankruptcy Committee. George A. Davis has become a partner in the New York law firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges L.L.P. He is a member of the firm s business finance and restructuring practice group. Mr. Davis represents a broad range of clients in all aspects of chapter 11 and out-ofcourt restructuring. Camille Siano Enders is one of nine lawyers statewide to receive the 1999 President s Pro Bono Service Award from the New York State Bar Association. Ms. Enders volunteered more than 150 hours to the Capital District Women s Bar Association Legal Project s community-based legal clinics. She also spent 50 hours coordinating monthly clinics where 300 disadvantaged Capital Region residents received free legal consultations. She assisted six women through the Pro j e c t s Domestic Violence Legal Connection, and accomplished all of this while working at the Workers Compensation Board. Ryan A.
