Department f Business Fall 2011 HROB*4060*DE Human Resurces Planning Curse Descriptin: This curse intrduces the strategic planning rle that Human Resurces Prfessinals cntribute in rganizatins with an emphasis n Human Resurces Planning (HRP). As the capsne curse in Human Resurces Management, students will be integrating multiple aspects f HR with a fcus n HR Planning in this interactive, seminar style curse. Students will cnfrnt the challenges and demands f rganizatinal and technlgical change, crprate psitining, cst cntainment, benchmarking, prductivity imprvements and ther cnsideratins f Human Resurces Management. An understanding f the fundamentals and essential elements f HRP prcess in rganizatins will be prvided. Student will acquire knwledge in analysis, assessment and prgramming related Human Resurces in rganizatinal develpment, business and strategic planning. Quantitative as well as qualitative cncepts, appraches and techniques will be explred. Curse Philsphy and Apprach: The pedaggy f the curse invlves a mix f learning the thery and applying it. Bth applicatin and understanding will increase if students knw hw use the infrmatin and learnings in a practical way. As well, students are required participate in nline grups where weekly discussin pics are be cnsidered. One grup will be a grup f 3-4 students that yu are assigned by the prfessr after cmpleting an nline getting knw yu survey. This grup f 3-4 students will be the grup yu will wrk with the cmplete all marked reprts (1-3). Yu will als be randmly assigned a grup f 4 students by the prfessr prvide a supprt and discussin grup thrughut the term. These tw grups will be cmpsed f different students. The grups will be mainly self managed, meaning that issues with time, effrt and planning f grup meetings will be the respnsibility f the team members. Mre detail f each grup expectatins, evaluatin and timelines is prvided belw. Fr the purpse f grup reprts and discussins, quality is the fcus, rather than quantity. Reprts and discussins are be written at a level acceptable fr the wrkplace. Use f subheadings and bullet pints are acceptable prcedures in the wrkplace, prvided that they cver the pics in sufficient depth and demnstrate critical thinking.

Grup Reprts The grup reprts will be cmpleted in assigned grups f 4 students. Yu are expected cmplete an nline survey by September 15 th, (Getting knw yu) and will be put in teams based n the results f this survey. The grups will be mainly self managed, meaning that issues with time, effrt and planning f grup meetings will be the respnsibility f the team members. As reprt #1, yu will be required develp a team cntract that will clearly utline expectatins, regulatins, penalties, timelines and wrklad planning fr yur team (see Reprt #1 nline, due by September 25 th at 11:59 PM (midnight)). The grup reprts marks can be redistributed based n penalties utlined in yur cntract. If there is a need fr redistributin, a team member must email the prfessr within 5 business days f the prject due date utlining wh is affected by the redistributin, what the issue is and timelines assciated with the dysfunctinality (with a cpy f that email sent all teammates). If needed, students will be further cntacted discuss dysfunctinal teamwrk. In the case f a dysfunctinal grup, if yu have cncerns r questins that yu feel cannt be slved within the team, please cntact the prfessr during the curse address these. Aligned with the fcus n quality rather than quantity, there is an upper limit f 6 pages per reprt, excluding any diagrams, references, title r cver page, appendices etc. All reprts are be typed using Times New Rman 12-pint fnt, single-spaced, with 1-inch margins, PLUS graphs r ther appendices. Each reprt shuld be sufficiently detailed explain the HR planning pic with sufficient depth smene wh is familiar with Human Resurces Management pics, aligned with the parameters set frth fr the reprt by the prfessr. Writing quality (e.g., spelling, grammar, structure, etc.) is imprtant. Cnsideratin fr nt cmpleting the required in class wrk will nly be given in accrdance with the rules as set ut by the University. Students wh find themselves unable meet curse requirements by the deadlines detailed in the curse utline due medical, psychlgical r cmpassinate circumstances beynd their cntrl, shuld review the regulatins n academic cnsideratin in the undergraduate calendar and shuld discuss their situatin with the instrucr, prgram cunsellr, r ther academic cunsellr, as apprpriate. Cntributin learning Yu will be put in grups f 4 fr nline discussin arund the readings and lectures. These grups will be yur supprt circle and primary pint f discussin during the curse and will frm the basis fr yur cntributin learning. Each grup will have its wn discussin site allw fr exchanges abut the learning mdule cntents, help with questins, and any weekly issues psted by the prfessr. Lgging in and/r dwnlading materials are nt the equivalent f cntributin learning. Yu are expected cntribute the learning experience f this class at the level f a furth year student. An adequate perfrmance in which the student demnstrates a generally adequate grasp f the subject matter and a mderate ability examine the material in a critical and cnstructive manner. The student displays an adequate understanding f the relevant issues, and a general familiarity with the apprpriate literature and techniques. 50-59 (D) Minimally Acceptable. A barely adequate perfrmance in which the student demnstrates a familiarity with the subject matter, but whse attempts examine the material in a critical and cnstructive manner are nly partially successful.
