4 en Safety Bosch Video Management System 1 Safety The migration from VIDOS VRM to Bosch VMS can lead to loss of recordings when you do not follow the instructions described in this Technical Note. In an existing VIDOS VRM system (encoders and) cameras are recorded on an iscsi device. Before you activate the new Bosch VMS configuration, make sure that you have added the VRM, the iscsi device and all your (encoders and) cameras. The recordings of each (encoder and) camera that has not been added, is deleted as soon as you activate your Bosch VMS configuration. When you change the hardware of the VRM server, first remove the (encoders and) cameras and then the storage from the VRM server, otherwise recordings get lost. Do not change any IP address of (encoders and) cameras during migration. Otherwise recordings can get lost. Do not activate your configuration until you have completed the entire configuration. Otherwise the configuration is sent to all affected devices and the VIDOS clients cannot operate. Depending on the configuration performed until the activation, recording can get interrupted and recordings can get lost. When you scan the network for (encoders and) cameras recorded with VRM from within Bosch VMS Configuration Client, the cameras are automatically renamed. Backup VRM is not supported in Bosch VMS. Bosch Video Management System Short Information en 5 2 Short Information This document contains information on how to migrate existing VIDOS VRM and VIDOS NVR systems to Bosch Video Management System without loosing any recordings and minimizing the downtime of the system. The following use cases are covered in this document: Migrate VRM to Bosch Video Management System Section 4.2 Migrating VRM, page 7. Add VIDOS NVR to Bosch Video Management System Section 4.3 Adding a VIDOS NVR to Bosch VMS, page 9. Migrate VIDOS user settings to Bosch Video Management System Section 4.4 Migrating user settings, page 10. Migrate VIDOS clients to Bosch Video Management System Section 4.5 Migrating the VIDOS clients, page 10. The supported software and firmware versions are covered in the Bosch VMS Release Letter. VIDOS NVR must have version 4.10 or later to be migrated to Bosch VMS. If you want to continue using a VIDOS client after migration in parallel to Bosch VMS, configure Live video to use stream 1 for the workstation in Bosch VMS to avoid performance problems. Bosch Sicherheitssysteme GmbH VIDOS to Bosch VMS Migration Guide DOC V2 2011.04

6 en Prerequisites Bosch Video Management System 3 Prerequisites Note the minimum hardware requirements for a Bosch VMS Central Server computer: 4 GB RAM, Intel Core Duo Xeon, Windows 2003 Server Note the minimum hardware requirements for a Bosch VMS workstation: 2 GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo, Windows XP Professional or Windows 7 Windows XP Home Edition and Windows Vista are not supported. 3.1 Planning information For the required network configuration for Bosch VMS see the Bosch VMS blueprints. If the VIDOS server computer meets the above mentioned hardware requirements, use this computer for installing Bosch VMS Configuration Client and Central Server and start Central Server service on this computer. Otherwise use an appropriate computer for installing Bosch VMS Configuration Client and Central Server. Note the restrictions valid for Bosch VMS regarding the supported count of VRM servers and cameras per Central Server. See the Bosch VMS datasheet for details. Add the VRM computer to Bosch VMS VRM. Make sure that the same VRM software version is used as is released for your Bosch VMS version. When you change the hardware of the VRM server, first remove the (encoders and) cameras and then the storage from the VRM server, otherwise recordings get lost. When you have a VRM server computer with Windows Server 2008 installed, and you want to install Bosch VMS Central Server on this computer, downgrade this computer to Windows Server 2003. For this downgrade you must install the VRM computer from scratch. You can use your Windows 2008 Server license for installing Windows Server 2003. Bosch VMS must provide sufficient camera licenses to cover for all cameras that are managed by the VRM. The licensing method used by BVMS is different from the licensing method in VRM, and BVMS will override the existing VRM license. The Bosch VMS schedules are configured independently and system wide, not for each device. The encoder schedules are overwritten. Bosch Video Management System Migrating VIDOS to Bosch VMS en 7 4 Migrating VIDOS to Bosch VMS VIDOS system can use VIDOS NVR and/or VRM as recording solution. 4.1 Installing Bosch Video Management System Install Bosch VMS Cental Server, Configuration Client, VRM, and Operator Client on the respective computers. 4.2 Migrating VRM Do not activate your configuration until you have completed the entire configuration. Otherwise the configuration is sent to all affected devices and the VIDOS clients cannot operate. Depending on the configuration performed until the activation, recording can get interrupted and recordings can get lost. You find the list of recorded (encoders and) cameras and the permissions on the VRM server. VIDOS user permissions in VRM are located under VIDOS Rights. If a VIDOS Server is used, user permissions must be taken from there. To migrate VRM: 1. Make screenshots from within VRM Configurator and your VIDOS clients to document the complete configuration of your VIDOS VRM installation. These screenshots must contain each VRM instance, encoders and cameras, the corresponding iscsi devices, LUNs, and their assignments, other devices like relays, schedules, alarm triggers, user permissions. 2.
