Storage Area Management (SAM) Clutter-Free, Super-Efficient Network Infrastructure Management

Current estimates indicate that the amount of data you manage, maintain and process is increasing at a rate of 60% per year.

SAM for your SAN Your enterprise is managing more data and information than ever. Current estimates indicate that the amount of data you manage, maintain and process is increasing at a rate of 60% per year. Businesses are searching for ways to manage this expansion and yet also have that data accessible throughout the enterprise. This is the driving force behind the need for more efficient and effective storage solutions. A SAN (Storage Area Network) consists of a communications infrastructure, which provides physical connections, a management layer to organize those connections, storage devices and computer systems for robust data transfer. A SAN is the new super star of IT, offering simplified storage management, scalability, flexibility, availability, and improved data access, movement, and backup. The increasing complexity of managing a large quantity of devices and data relating to storage is increasing cost of software and services and is drawing most of the IT community s attention. However, the physical layer drives much of the complexity in implementing SAN systems, and many of the impediments associated with these implementations. There are a number of challenges with SAN cabling at the physical layer. High-density port groupings at the core are always a concern. From the sheer volume of patch cords to the deployment and moves, adds, and changes (MACs), to the ports themselves; installing and tracking the actual devices and cables connecting them is difficult at best. Space being at a premium in many data centers, many have narrow cabinets or four post racks with inadequate cable management space. Frequently data center cable bundles look more like spaghetti than a nimble system that is responsive to the needs of a business. These clumps of cable block airflow, visibility and access for troubleshooting and make MACs more difficult. Consider the amount of time it takes to disconnect cables, remove and replace linecards, weed through the spaghetti, and then re-connect the patch cords to the appropriate ports.

Introducing Storage Area Management (SAM) Solutions from TE Connectivity TE Connectivity has now launched SAM our new Storage Area Management Solution for network infrastructures. The SAM system is designed to reduce the bulkiness of cabling and connectors in the data center by up to 80% and enable high-density deployment with fewer costly cabinet or infrastructure upgrades. We re all about efficiency. De-clutter your racks for a highly organized, eco-friendly network infrastructure. SAM delivers operational efficiency to Storage Area Network (SAN) cabling and helps customers: Reduce SAN switch cabling volume by up to 80% implement high-density deployment with fewer cabinet or infrastructure upgrades Reduce space requirements: Manage up to 768 fiber ports within 2 rack units Minimize footprint -- no additional front vertical, side, or horizontal cable management devices Deploy in narrow cabinets or racks and limited space environments Minimize cable mass and slack management using linecard-optimized hydra assemblies Easy port access Unobstructed linecard maintenance Simplified Scalability Pre-labeled ports Color-coded and keyed trunk connections speed up deployment and reduce connection errors Dedicated linecard kits simplify installation, upgrades and migration Improve operational response time Reduce linecard change-out to several minutes instead of 1+ hours Linecard removal and redeployment in several quick clicks

Reduce floor footprint through rack and port consolidation Simplify and expedite port access Improve uptime RoHS Compliant Increase rack space SAM IN TE'S "GREEN" DATA CENTER You know what it takes to create, construct and run this most critical of business assets.
