LOCATION: McMaster Campus, Hamilton, Ontario Great location: The program will be offered at Mohawk s Institute of Applied Health Sciences - IAHS at McMaster University Campus which is a scenic campus. The interior of the campus, which is open only to pedestrians and cyclists, is located at the western end of Lake Ontario in Hamilton, Canada. Nearby attractions include the Cootes Paradise Sanctuary, the Bruce Trail, the Niagara Escarpment, the Waterfront Trail, and the Royal Botanical Gardens. The IAHS campus is minutes from downtown Hamilton by bus, regional transportation systems, or automobile. The program will be offered at the same campus where all of our health science programs are taught, including Nursing, Pharmacy, OTA/PTA, Cardio-Vascular Technician programs. This program has helped me to understand Canadian culture and the health care skills required to
be successful in Canada. Another important point is to use your time wisely, actively participate in class, ask questions from teachers, clarify your doubts and be open minded. I would advise the new cohort to be punctual and check elearn daily because it is the integral part of education in Canada. I will also advise them to seek extra help for English as it is available for international students. In conclusion if you find yourself in a situation where you think you need a help, just ask for it from your professors and counsellors. Mom The real value of this location is that students will be able to interact with other students in various health disciplines as both Mohawk College and McMaster University health science programs are offered on the McMaster University Campus. Directions: http://www.mohawkcollege.ca/maps-directions/iahs.html This location provides students with an opportunity to network with people that have been on a similar journey in their past and may be able to share insight as to career options. Volunteering and networking is a very important aspect to get involved in the community. CREDENTIAL RECOGNITION Most health care professions require credential recognition. You will need your credentials assessed for Canadian equivalency by the various health care regulatory bodies in Canada. All health care professions have their own rules and regulations to practice in Canada and you will require a methodical approach to ensuring your credentials meet the requirements. Many professions are government regulated and your credentials will have to be recognized by the provincial and national bodies governing your area of practice. Often this will require additional coursework and qualifying exams to verify equivalency and obtain regulatory licence in Canada. Some of these courses are on-line and may be pursued concurrently. Some of these rules are changing and will require further research and investigation. Our program can help you develop an individualized transition plan to become a regulated health professional in Canada. Perrault EXPRESS ENTRY, IMMIGRATION & EMPLOYMENT It is important to note that immigration and employment are outside the scope of this program. Have a look at the rules defined by immigration as they often change: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-postgrad-who.asp A two year program at Mohawk College often results in a three year post graduation work option which gives the student more time to seek qualifying employment under skill level O, A, or B. Immigration rules are complex and are part of the decision to study abroad. We suggest you talk to a registered immigration consultant to help weave you through the paperwork. Study the CIC web site in detail as a new Express Entry Invitation to Apply for PR requires due diligence. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/express/express-entry.asp Getting your credentials recognized in Canada may require additional research as many disciplines require different procedures. Our program can help you develop a plan to transition into a health care profession, but additional course work is often required after this program is completed.
