Founded in 1887, Pomona is a nationally recognized liberal arts college of about 1,560 students with a student-faculty ratio of 8 to 1 and an average class size of 15. Pomona is the founding member of The Claremont Colleges, a unique arrangement in American higher education, with five autonomous undergraduate colleges and two graduate institutions located on adjacent campuses, cooperating to broaden the resources available to all of their students. Our Viewbook will give you information about the academic and extracurricular life at Pomona, but nothing can take the place of a visit. This brochure describes how to plan for yours and provides tips on ways you can learn about Pomona while you are here. PLANNING A VISIT When to Visit The Office of Admissions, located in Sumner Hall, is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admissions Calendar Nov. 1 Jan. 1 Jan. 1 March 15 Early Decision 1 freshman application deadline. Early Decision 2 freshman application deadline. Regular Decision freshman application deadline. Fall transfer application deadline. For the most up-to-date visit schedule, please check the Visit section of our website at www.pomona.edu/admissions. From late September through early December we are also open Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., while the College is in session. A campus visit is informative any time of year. A visit when the College is in session can be especially rewarding because it allows you to meet students and faculty, to visit classes, to stay overnight in a residence hall and to see the dynamics of campus life during the academic year. Interviews The interview gives you an opportunity to share your goals and interests with us and to ask specific questions about academic and social life. We recommend it as a way for us to get to know each other better. We suggest that you interview before you submit your application.

Interviews are conducted by members of the admissions staff and by senior interviewers students who are selected and trained to help us accommodate the many interview requests we receive. Please call two or three weeks before your visit to make arrangements for an appointment; appointments in December fill up quickly, so please plan accordingly. All freshman candidates who live in Southern California are expected to interview and should make arrangements to come to the campus. We strongly recommend that you interview as soon as possible in the fall. Freshman candidates who live outside of Southern California and are unable to interview on campus may meet with alumni of the College in their home towns. Information Sessions Members of the admissions staff conduct daily group information sessions for interested students and families. The sessions consist of an overview of the College and its programs. No reservation is necessary. Overnight Stays Overnight stays may be arranged when the College is in session (see calendar). Current students volunteer to host you for your stay. While the college will provide a cot and linens, we suggest you bring a sleeping bag; we will give you meal passes redeemable in the College s dining halls. Prospective students may stay during the fall of their senior year. Freshman applicants and transfer prospective students may stay overnight January through mid-march. Only admitted students may stay during the month of April.

If you wish to stay in a residence hall, please request a visit online through our website at least two weeks before your visit. If you wish to stay with friends or relatives at Pomona, please contact them directly; they can make arrangements with the Office of Admissions for meal passes. Classes Academic Calendar 2013 2014 The greatest number of classes are scheduled in the morning; few classes are held on Friday afternoons, and no classes are held on Sept. 3 Oct. 21 22 Nov. 28 29 Dec. 11 Jan. 21 March 17 21 Fall semester classes begin Fall Break Thanksgiving Break Last day of classes for fall semester Spring semester classes begin Spring Break Saturdays. The Office March 28 César Chávez Day observed of Admissions keeps a complete schedule of May 7 Last day of classes for spring semester classes for reference. We recommend class visits after the first week of classes and before the last week of classes for each semester. No reservation is necessary, but we do recommend you arrive early to introduce yourself to the professor. How to Get Here Pomona College is located in Claremont, California, 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, and is easily accessible by car, plane or rail. If you re arriving by plane, we recommend flying into Ontario International Airport (ONT), which is closest to campus. A cab ride to Claremont takes 15 minutes and costs around $30. Those flying into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) may take a commuter flight to Ontario, rent a car, or take a shuttle van to Claremont. Allow an hour and a half to two hours driving time during peak hours. SuperShuttle offers a 15% discount to any Pomona visitor to/from the following Southern California airports: Los Angeles International (LAX), Ontario (ONT), Burbank (BUR), John Wayne Orange County (SNA) and Long Beach (LGB). The Los Angeles area Metrolink serves the city of Claremont with a station two blocks from campus. If you would like to take the Metrolink to Claremont from LAX, you can do so by taking the LAX FlyAway bus to and from Union Station. Where to Stay Families of prospective students and students who are not spending the night on campus may stay in a variety of hotels. You can ask for the special Pomona College rate at the Doubletree Hotel in Claremont (909-626-2411). Other hotel options near the College are the Sheraton Suites Fairplex (800-722-4055) and the Shilo Inn (800-222-2244). Also, the Doubletree Hotel (800-222-TREE), the Marriott Hotel (800-228-9290), and the Hilton Hotel (800-445-8667) are among several hotels located near Ontario International Airport.
