Features: International network of partners (public and private sector) Joint Programme (interdisciplinary): (i) primarily training through research (ii) transferable skills training modules (entrepreneurship, management, IPR, communication ) (iii) exposure to both public and private sectors Four-year Grant Agreements Supervisory Board Research Activities: on scientific and technological knowledge through research: Individual personalised projects within the frame of the research topics defined by the network/programme includes secondments Structured training courses, events (summer schools, seminars ) Visiting researchers Quality of supervision Personal Career Development Plan established for researchers recruited for 6 months 7
Definitions Participants: full network partners, signatories to the grant agreement. Recruit researchers, provide research & transferable skills training, provide secondment opportunities and receive funding ( beneficiaries or level 1 ) Associated Partners: do not sign the grant agreement: do not recruit researchers. Provide transferable skills training and/or secondment opportunities ( level 2 ) Early Stage Researcher (ESR): at the time of recruitment, must be in the first 4 years of their research careers (full-time equivalent), and with no doctoral degree awarded yet Experienced Researcher (ER): at the time of recruitment, doctoral degree (or at least 4 years research experience), and in ITN scheme less than 5 years of research experience Industry/Enterprises: Private sector is understood to comprise organisations gaining the majority of their revenue (>50%) through competitive means with exposure to commercial markets 8
Multi-partner ITNs (Multi-ITN) At least 3 participants* (any type) from 3 different MS/AC Above this minimum, participation of also third countries is possible ( level 1 ) Associated partners from any country / sector / discipline ( level 2 ) Private sector participation: highest possible level ESR: appointment for 3-36 months ER: appointment for 3-24 months Secondments encouraged (up to 30% of recruitment period) Associated Total: Limited to 500 researcher-months Minimum 80% ESR person months Maximum 40% budget to one country Each level 1 partner must recruit * Average number of «level 1» participants 9 (2007-2011) Country 2 9
