Senior Advertising Packet for The Reign 2016 Independence High School Yearbook DEADLINE OCTOBER 16 DEADLINE OCTOBER 16 DEADLINE OCTOBER 16 This is your child s last year in high school. Senior year is a big deal to both the student and to you as a parent, family member or friend. We are offering special senior recognition ads in the 2016 yearbook. The senior ads are offered to the families and friends of the soon to be graduating seniors. These ads will give parents, grandparents and even sports teams or groups the opportunity to tell their graduate(s) congratulations and to show how proud of them you are in a special way. This package explains the available sizes of ads, prices, sample designs and photo/text submission information. Please read all of this information carefully as there are specific directions that need to be followed, especially regarding photos, to make your senior ad. Payment for your senior ad will only be accepted online at www.jostensyearbooks.com with an echeck, PayPal, or credit card. Please click on Yearbook Recognition Ads and it will take you through the process to PAY ONLY for your ad. Receipt of a contract at school (and verified payment) guarantees you an ad space; payment alone won t hold a spot, so send that contract in early. You will still need to turn in the photos, text and order form separately. The final deadline for submitting senior ads is Friday, October 16. We encourage you to send your ad contract and make your payment early to hold your space. Photos and text may come later, but must be received by October 16, we cannot accept incomplete orders, and this includes pictures missing or pictures out of dress code. Senior Portraits: Please make sure you have your senior portraits taken and have time to get the photos back if you plan to include them in your ad. Summer sessions are available for portraits with Southern Images, our official school photographer, who can take your casual & fun photos along with your drape/tux and/or cap & gown photos. To schedule an appointment with Southern Images, call them at 972-414- 6884. The yearbook will be distributed in the spring before the seniors graduate, so they will see your pride and love before they take that step to the next phase of their life. Photo and Text Guidelines for Senior Ads- DEADLINE IS October 16 Photo Guidelines Please read these BEFORE sending in photos. Your photos must meet these guidelines to work with our software and our publisher. If you have any questions, please email the adviser. Your pictures MUST be in compliance with the IHS dress code. If you have pictures that you are uncertain about, please email us the photo to verify, or send an alternate photo with your order. We will go over your photos and counsel you on options. Photos may be sent by: We prefer to receive digital picture files. Only.jpg or.tif files can be used and the resolution must be at least 300 dpi. If you scan your photos, set the scanner to 300 resolution, which is higher than the default setting and crop your image while scanning. Please keep in mind that most photos taken from an Internet site (Facebook, Shutterfly, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) and cell phone images will NOT have enough resolution for us to use and may not be yours to legally submit. Email photos to Mrs. Allen at allenl@friscoisd.org with the student s name in the subject line. Photos also may be sent on a CD or brought in on a flash drive to Room C204 or delivered to Mrs. Allen s attention. Contact your senior photographer to send high- resolution files directly to Mrs. Allen s email. Hard copies may be sent in an envelope and dropped off in Room C204 or the front office. We can scan your photos for you if they are printed on photo quality paper with one photo per sheet. Computer printouts of photos on regular paper cannot be used. Proof photos from professional photographers with their logos and copyrighted images will not be used. If you submit a hard copy of your photo(s), writing lightly in pencil, put the student s name on the back and indicate the photo position number from your selected design (if more that one photo is included). Please do the following: Make sure your senior photos are taken and you will have them in time to meet the deadline if you plan to include them in your ad. Ads will not be delayed to wait for your photos. We have publisher deadlines to meet. If other people are in the photo, please make sure you have permission to use their image in the ad. Select tall photos for tall spaces and wide photos for wide spaces based on your ad layout choice. A large photo can fit a small frame, but not the other way around. The yearbook staff will crop or scale a large photo to fit the designated space. If you would like us to consider your cropping suggestions, please write those on a piece of paper and include with the photos or email the directions. Do not write on the front of the photo. Please do not: Have glue, tape or paper clip creases on the front, or write on the front of photos that we will scan. Send photos with red eye or date stamps. We do not retouch photos. Please fix red eye before sending photos. Send small photos and expect them to fit a large format. For example, a small wallet photo will not fit a half page photo frame. Send round or scrapbook cut photos unless we have room around your student so we can still fit our rectangular frames without awkward edges. Care will be taken to return photos if requested; however, copies of prints or digital scans should be submitted for irreplaceable photos. The school, yearbook staff and the yearbook company do not accept responsibility for lost or damaged photos. Photos will be returned in the spring. Text Guidelines We use a standard font and size for all ads to keep the section consistent. We will work with the font size within our guidelines to make almost any message fit, or we will contact you if it needs to be shortened. Name fonts will be selected by the staff based on our design guidelines and selections for that year. No copyrighted text will be reproduced in senior ads unless complying with the Fair Use copyright laws. This includes portions of song, book, movie, or poem lyrics as well as quotes. Please write an original message for your child! Provide text for the ad typed and printed or email it to allenl@friscoisd.org. Please do not send hand- written text.
