Graduation Ceremony Date and Time After all the hard work, you are ready for the big night. The American University in Cairo Undergraduate Commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 13 at 7 pm. If you decide not to attend the ceremony, you should inform May Radwan at the Office of the Registrar (mayt @aucegypt.edu) or call the emergency mobile number: 2.010.6669.4358. Rehearsal Rehearsal will take place on Thursday, June 11 at 12 pm in ARTOC Sports Court. You must attend in order to have your name called at the actual commencement ceremony on June 13. If you do not attend the rehearsal, your name will be removed from the graduating class call list and you will not be able to walk across the stage to receive your diploma. Your name and seat number will be communicated electronically to you via the portal before the rehearsal. Graduation Site and Admission The graduation ceremony will take place on Saturday, June13 in ARTOC Sports Court. The ceremony lasts approximately two hours. Entrance tickets are required and no reserved seating is available for guests. Please read your ticket to determine the entrance from where you will enter, as you will be allowed only to enter from the entrance noted on your ticket. 2
Arrival Times You must plan to arrive, dressed in your academic attire (cap and gown), to Mohamed El Rashidi Gym by 6 pm. Please be prompt, and make sure to bring your seat number card with you. Campus gates will open at 5:30 pm, and the doors to ARTOC Sports Court will open at 6 pm for all guests. Online Streaming, Photography and Video For online streaming throughout the ceremony, visit www.aucegypt.edu/streaming. You may also visit the link to the video of the commencement ceremony, which will be available within two weeks after the commencement day on the registrar s graduation website at www.aucegypt.edu/students/registrar/pages/graduation.aspx. To help ensure that the ceremony is conducted in a dignified manner, family members and all other attendees are asked to remain seated. Aisles must be kept clear. An official commencement photographer will take formal graduation portraits. Only official University photographers will be permitted in the stage area. Commencement Souvenir Group Photo Do not miss the opportunity to have this great souvenir. The group photo date without caps and gowns is scheduled for Friday, May15 starting at 2 pm in the University Garden behind AUC Library, AUC New Cairo. The group photo with caps and gowns is scheduled for Saturday, June 6 at 2 pm. Caps and Gowns If you plan to attend the commencement ceremony, you must be attired in a cap and gown. Before you take your cap and gown, you are required to pay a deposit of LE 450 at the cashier s office (LE 150 cap + LE 300 gown), Administration Building, room G057. The cashier is open each work day from 9 am to 2 pm and on Saturday, June 6 from 10 am to 2 pm. The tassel is a gift from the University, so you can keep it as a souvenir. Tassels are worn on your right. After all candidates have returned to their seats, the President will ask you to stand together while she formally confers all degrees. It is at that point in time that you will move your tassel from right to left. If you lose your tassel, you will have to purchase another one. You may be fitted for a gown in the Conference and Visitor Center, first floor, room 1002, on the following dates and times: Dates Sunday, May 24 - Thursday, May 28 Sunday, May 31 - Thursday, June 4 Saturday, June 6 Sunday, June 7 - Thursday, June 11 Hours 10 am - 2 pm If you have your own academic cap and gown, you are required to show them to Laurette Gouel, who will be available in the Alumni Lounge (room G001) on the ground floor of the Administration Building from June 4 to 11 to ensure that they match the AUC cap and gown. Please note that the University reserves the right to refuse entry to graduates who are unsuitably attired. If you return the cap and gown between Monday, June 15and Thursday, July 2 from 11 am to 2 pm, you will be refunded your deposit. If not, you will lose the deposit, and it will be used to purchase a replacement. Please return your cap and gown to room 1002 on the first floor of the Conference and Visitor Center during the return period. The deadline is Thursday, July 2 at 2 pm. Graduation Ring If you wish to order a graduation ring and become a Loyal for Life AUCian, place your order by May 18 and get your ring in time for graduation. Rings are available in both men's and women's sizes. Rings made of silver are priced at LE 600; rings made of silver with a gold AUC logo are priced at LE 1,000. Order your graduation ring in the Alumni Lounge (room G001) on the ground floor of the Administration Building on Sundays through Thursdays from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. AUC Song On the registrar s graduation website, you will soon find the text of the AUC song and a recording. We encourage you to listen to it and read through the words to familiarize yourself with it so that you will be able to sing it confidently during commencement. 4
Honorary Ribbons Students graduating with outstanding academic performance will be honored at commencement. Summa cum laude will wear gold ribbons; magna cum laude will wear silver ribbons; and cum laude will wear burgundy ribbons. You will receive the ribbons on the day of the rehearsal, and you can keep them as a reward for your outstanding academic performance. Tickets You may collect your tickets from Laurette Gouel, who will be available in the Alumni Lounge (room G001) on the ground floor of the Administration Building from Thursday, June 4 to Thursday, June11 from 9 am to 3 pm. The service will also be available on Saturday, June 6 from 10 am to 2 pm. Every student will receive a ticket for him- or herself and six guest tickets: 4 for guests to attend the ceremony in ARTOC Sports Court and 2 for guests to watch the live streaming in Bassily Auditorium. All guests will be able to join the students for the fireworks, music and celebrations on the terrace by the football field after the ceremony. Please note that you and your guests will not be able to enter campus through the entrance by the football field; you must enter via the gate marked on your ticket and either Pepsi Entrance or East Entrance. To receive your tickets, you are requested to present your AUC ID, the academic cap and gown clearance and the credential clearance card from the Office of the Registrar. The deadline for clearing any outstanding balance and/or library fines is Sunday, May 31. If you clear your account after the deadline, you need to obtain a clearance card from the Office of Student Accounting and the AUC Library, and submit them to Ms. gouel (laure.gouel@gmail.com) 5
to receive your tickets. No one is permitted to pick up anyone else s tickets. Tickets will not be distributed on campus the day of graduation. You must arrange to get your tickets by Thursday, June 11. Vice President of Student Affairs Khaled Dahawy will send an announcement with a link to an online form for students requesting extra tickets beyond the 6tickets each student is allotted. Guests with Disabilities If you have a guest attending commencement who is disabled and unable to walk, email officeofthepresident@aucegypt.edu with your request. The deadline to email your request is Thursday, June 4. Parents Association Cup The graduating class will vote for the winner of the Parents Association Cup electronically. Online voting will take place from Friday, June 5 at 10 am to Thursday, June 11 at 3 pm. The winner will be announced at commencement on Saturday, June 13. Graduation Speech The commencement ceremony will include a two-minute speech by a graduating senior. The speech is to contain a serious message and meaningful statement to leave an impact on the graduating class. 6
Students are asked to submit their resumes and abstracts by email to Dalia Issa at the Office of Student Development at studentorgs@aucegypt.edu. The Student Union(SU) high board selects five of the speeches for committee consideration. High-board members who are submitting speech sare to be replaced by SU seniors who are not submitting speeches. Submitted speeches should include the text of the proposed two-minute speech, as well as a separate listing of the student s GPA, activities, honors/awards, etc. The deadline for submissions is Thursday, May 28 at 11 am. Late submissions will be disregarded. The winner will be announced on Thursday, June 4.
